Fruits - weight in food log with or without waste?

Quote  |  Reply

Today is my 6 month anniversary with CC, and I STILL haven't figured this one out.

Say I buy an apple or pear, and whole it weighs 166 grams.  But when I eat it, I don't eat the core, so do I still choose the medium pear (166 grams) or do I estimate the weight of the core and subtract the grams?  Same for apples and pitted fruits.

Your opinions?

If you have a scale, weigh it first then weigh the refuse and subtract that weight.  If you don't have a scale (like me) you can get a better estimate by slicing or dicing it and measuring it by cup.

Well, I do have a scale.  What I'm asking though, is if anyone knows if the food database takes into account the waste when it states a whole fruit (like small pear, medium pear, large pear, etc) - Same for banana - with or without the peel?

Thanks though.

For fruit and veggies I always use http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in- fruit-fresh-apples-w-skin-raw-edible-portion_ f-Y2lkPTM3MDY4JmJpZD0xJmZpZD02Mzg3OCZlaWQ9MzE 5MjU2MDczJnBvcz0xJnBhcj0ma2V5PWFwcGxl.html it's for the edible part of an apple, and you can weigh it and then enter the weight and it will give you the exact values.

Log the number of grams of fruit you actually eat. So, the peel doesn't count....same with the core.
