Frustrated and considering diet pill

Quote  |  Reply

So I figure that I will get a lot of flack for this, but after months of no weight loss with just diet and exercise, I am considering going to the doctor to get phentermine.  I am at a standstill and have been for a while.  I am currently 5'4 and 143 pounds.  I am definantly not ready for a bikini and my ideal weight is 120-125.  I've been there and loved my body, but 2 babies later and I just feel fat.  I'm in my 30s now and the weight just does not want to come off!  I think that phentermine might get me going again.

Has anyone had any luck with other diet aids besides phentermine?

Thanks!

Angel

Ok, Maybe I will get flack for this too. but I just got Evomine-X from ebay. It is the herbal version of Phentermine. My niece just started taking Phentermine and already lost 3lbs. However, being that I am an ex meth addict I won't take the Phentermine because it contains amphetamine. I'm hoping the herbal version will work just as well. Its alot cheaper too!

I've been eating between 1400 - 1600 calories a day depending on whether or not I workout.  I usually do cardio for 30 minutes 3 times a week.  I lift weights 2 times and week and do pilates once a week.  I usually get up and work out 1st thing in the morning - usually around 4:30 AM.  I have a 2 hour trip to work after dropping off the boys, so it takes me about an hour to get ready and packed up after working out.  I don't get home until 7:00 pm, so after giving the boys their bath and eating dinner, it's time to go to bed.

ok i would be straight out here... i would think that while you should keep the cals the same maybe 1300-1400 and up the exercise. like i am 5'6 and 151 and i am active 7 days a week and i also usually do 35-60 mins cardio about 5-6 days a week and i would maintain on 1600 so i think you need to up the intensity.

thats wat i think. diet pil wont work, you dont need to supress appetite anymor than you are. you need to do more. the body adapts very quickly

i agree with fidget84--you have a great thing going but you need to kick it up.

for one week try doing at least 45 minutes of CARDIO 6 days per week. it should be intense enough get you into your aerobic zone--if you don't know about that go to the polar heart rate monitor site on-line a buy the basic heart rate monitor--it will come with a manual that teaches you how to monitor your heart rate and how to determine your aerobic zone.

keep the weight lifting and pilates if you can...but if needed alternate one week of all cardio and the next week cardio plus weight lifting/pilates...also try to do intense bursts of cardio followed by short recovery periods (intervals are great for kicking up your metabolism).  also try doing something different for Cardio than your normal cardio exercise...so if you run then do the elliptical trainer or jump rope or take spinning or do the stair climber or row....challenge your body in a new way.

before going with dangerous meds give the above a try even for just 2 weeks and see what happens.  also research the side effect and death-rates on the drugs you are considering... good luck!

Currently, my cardio is Taebo or one of my other dvds.  I try to change it up.  I at least workout for 30 minutes, sometimes 45.  I do workout hard.  Its hard for me to find any extra time to workout.  I'm exhausted by bedtime.  We usually try to take the boys to the zoo or the park on weekends.  So you think the cardio is more important?  Should I just completely skip weights or cut it down to once a week?

this really DOES work! you don't need pills. you probably have too large of a deficit. work on that & see what it is. you know, calories burned minus calories consumed...

keep that around 500 or so & you'll lose, AND eat healthy foods.

About a year ago I took phentermine while also doing South Beach Diet.  Sure, I lost a pretty good amount of weight(33 lbs in 3 months). BUT, the second I stopped taking it and added more carbs back into my diet, I gained back every lb I had lost plus some! I'm sure it was a combination of both stopping the phentermine and the added carbs that led to my weight gain.  That said, I would try it again as an added "push" to my current diet plan.  I find that between restricting my calories, and exercising, I seem to be hungry constantly and an appetite suppressant sounds very appealing!

Do you write everything that goes in your mouth down?   It seems an active mother in her 30s should be losing weight on 1400-1600 cals. a day.   Write down all your food intake for a few days.  Maybe you're eating more than you think.

well it sounds like you have already made your mind up, so i wont give you any flack. but if i were you i would make sure to do loads of research before you start, and not just on a forum.  and it doesn't sound like you are doing enough exercising, i mean it all sounds like a maintenance regime. however with your time constraints i think you need to do a very intense set of cardio, maybe 4 times or more a week.  ive taking diet pills before but i guess it is a lesson we all have to learn on our own. just please be safe, for you and your kids. and i would be curious to know what your doctor is going to say.

What's your diet like? Tell me a typical day for you.  It could be that you are eating the wrong types of foods and that is why your body is hanging on to the fat.   Also I don't think you gave your stats, age, height weight....etc.  Also, before you ask your doc for diet drugs....have him check your thyroid.  It is very common for women to become hypothyroid after having babies.

I'm where you are as well...a year after having my daughter I weighed more than when I was pregnant!  I took meridia and had good results.  I lost 50lbs and kept them off for years but gained recently and can't seem to get them to budge...am considering meridia again to sort of "jumpstart" things.

Maybe try upping your fiber.  On average, a woman should be getting 25-30 grams of fiber a day.  If an average woman who is getting 10-15 grams of fiber ups it to 30 she will lose weight.... without changing anything else in her schedule.  So, try just that one thing.  30 grams of fiber a day for  the rest of your life  :)  It really should work.

Also, one thing I've been doing the last few months that has been amazingly wonderful.  EVERYWHERE you go, park in the furthest spot in the parking lot.  ALso, ALWAYS take the stairs.  Just add these two little things, again everyday for the rest of your life, and you will lose weight.  You won't see it on the scale right away, but give it 6 months and you will have lost several pounds without even trying.  This should work especially well for you since you will have to drag the kids and their stuff with you.  If will be trying at first.... but stick with it.

Remember, be patient.  It is a wonderful virtue that I am just now starting to learn!  Don't hold yourself to CRAZY next-day standards.... it will take time.  But it will be worth it.  Also, remember to love yourself exactly as you are now.  Accepting yourself and loving yourself wll help your body to change and adjust.

Best wishes in whatever you choose.

all "versions" of things that claim to be the same either are the same (phentermine IS an amphetamine, it doesn't contain it, it IS it) or the brand is lying. If it is "herbal" phentermine, most likely, it's not phentermine and it probably doesn't work as good as it either. As I'm sure you already know from the meth, amphetamines cause you to lose interest in food, and keep you moving or obsessed with finishing things that you start, determined if you will. Phentermine is the same way, however, I think that it targets a different portion of your brain than methamphetamine does and it is only habit forming if taking at high dosage for a long period of time. It's possible that you could get geniune phentermine and not have it trigger a relapse, instead of wasting money on something that is most likely a bunch of caffeine and guyanna I suggest you speak with your family care physician.

so, I just read the wikipedia article on Methamphetamine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methamphetamine

"Since the phenethylamine phentermine is a constitutional isomer of methamphetamine, it has been speculated that it may be effective in treating methamphetamine addiction. Phentermineis a central nervous system stimulant that acts on dopamine and norepinephrine, it has not been reported to cause the same degree of euphoria that is associated with other amphetamines.[citation needed]"
