Frustrated....Didn't lose

Quote  |  Reply

I just need to vent for a moment.  This weekend....I was SOOOOOO good.  I exercised hard everyday and counted everything.  I refused going out to eat so I could make healthier choices.   When I weighed myself this morning, I had gained .7!  What's up with that?  I ride 10 miles on a bike, do two six mile hikes and this is my reward?    I feel really frustrated.

Really -- it's not that big of a deal.  Since you were so active your muscles are probably retaining water to help replenish glycogen.   Weighing yourself the day after a really physical day is almost always disappointing.

Thank you-this is a great article and your posting makes me feel better :-)  I guess I will go for another hike today :-)

I'm feeling as frustrated as you ..... sometimes things just don't seem to add up.  I like though that you are committed to another hike - for me it meant going to the gym this morning and working out despite knowing that the scale was not my friend this morning ..... damn scaleFrown!

Keep it up! This happened to me the other day and it turned out I was retianing water from all the exercise. Now I am 4 lbs lighter, a couple of days later, after drinking lots of water in the meantime.

Sounds like you have been a saint with the diet and are working really hard. Just don't give up!!!

Remember to look at the tendline on your profile, too. I used to look at it this way: my weight on any given day was an accumulation of my progress for the last week, not just the last couple days. And honestly, that trendline will keep you going in the right direction. (And don't you just feel great after those workouts? That's kind of a reward, too.)

you might try measuring yourself. at like stomach, waist, chest, hips... every two weeks in addition to weighing. Because muscle weighs more than fat it is not odd to gain weight if you start exercising more frequently or harder. One time I gained 2 pounds and lost an inch around everywhere in two weeks from jogging! this might be the case... Hope it makes you feel better. if anyone understands the diet blues I do  Smile

This is great advice (about the measuring) but muscle doesn't weigh that much more than fat. It's more likely that inexplicable weight gain is water/undigested food.
