Frustrated.

Quote  |  Reply

When I workout/run I don't lose weight as fast as I do when I just count my calories.  Its very frustrating!

I have been running 5km/day and I only lost 1lb this week!!!!!

Why dont you do both?  Workout/run AND count your calories?

I am!

I run every morning (burn 300-400cals) and then I count my calories for the day and eat on average the 1300 the site says.

If I stop running - I'd lose the weight faster.  I know in my head in the long run I will look better and feel better if I carry on running but its so frustrating sometimes to see the numbers not go down as fast.

You are only eating 1300?  That doesnt sound like enough.  Check your stats.  You may need to up your intake when you run, perhaps your deficit is too much.  Have no idea if you are male/female and height, weight...but 1300 sounds too low.

5'7", 169lbs

Yep, 1300 is not enough for you, especially with the amount of calories you're burning from running. Is your activity level set to sedentary for some reason? You should set it to light, which will probably up your calorie target to a more reasonable 1600.

Yeah, my bet - if you eat more and keep running, you will see more consistent weight loss.

I have noticed this also. I have no answer as to why it happens but I suspect it's cause of the additional calorie burn and the body thinking it's not getting enough so it reacts as if you are starving it.

I keep it at sedentary and all the running to my activity log.

Ok - so eat a little bit more and keep running.  That sounds good to me.

Yep, lots of people do this. The problem is that CC only uses the activity level you enter to calculate your calorie intake; it doesn't take into account any extra exercise you add on top of that.

FYI I do the same.  I keep it at sedentary and log all the exercise in the activity log.  I feel you get a clearer burn that way.

I had this same problem and eating a bit more on exercise days works!

I agree... I eat 1500-1600 calories a day, run, and losing weight faster than when I averaged 1200... plus, all those muscles will look better in the long run! :-)

Well this is good news, who doesn't like hearing that they get to eat more?

Try what everyone suggested and eat a bit more, and hang in there! :)

Hey another thing could be is that you aren't losing "weight" because you are losing fat and GAINING muscle from running so it only evens out to a small "weight" loss. I went through it and well, I have muscular legs I want to get rid of.

Maybe, although I was under the impression that long distance running didn't really build a whole lot of muscle.

You're right, das - it doesn't. Especially if she's eating at a calorie deficit.
