frustrated w/ watermelon

Quote  |  Reply
I love watermelon and was super excited to start eating it again now that summer is here. I've always been told that watermelon is very low calorie since it has so much water, so I tend to eat A LOT of it. So today I looked it up on this site and it said that 1 wedge has 86 calories! That's a lot of calories for me since I usually eat two or three wedges for dessert every night. It really frustrates me because now the damage has been done and I realize that for the past week I've been killing my calorie count. The entry I read on this site said 1/16 is equal to one wedge. Does anyone know how much 1/16 really is. I cannot weigh it for grams as I have no scale.

Try cutting your normal wedge and measuring it in a measuring cup - then you can get an idea as to how many calories an average serving has for you. (there is an option for either wedge or cup for watermelon)

Hi!Smile

I have a food scale so I weight everything I eat, you should invest in one, they're great and with it, you can know exactly how calories you are eating. By the way 100 grs of watermelon are 30 cals, and also, don't worry that much about those calories, watermelon is mostly water! :D

I wouldn't worry about it either dont go by wedges because it says 1 cup diced is only about 56 calories so I try to measure it by that, I mean because watermelons vary so much in size who knows how much 1/16th really is anyway?

NEVER CUT WATERMELON INTO CUPS. IT tastes like crap after that.. and  p.s dont worrky about it I eat 1/2 a watermelon a day (but i skip breakfast and lunch) and i went from 155 -150

I always cut my watermelon up and it still tastes great. Actually, it tastes better to me when it's cut up than eating it off the rind.

You can eat a pound (16 ounces) of watermelon for 136 calories.

It's really necessary to weigh or measure fruits like that, or you'll end up grossly under- or over-estimating their caloric content.

I've never heard of such a thing. I cut my watermelon up every time and it tastes BETTER since I don't risk accidentally biting into the rind if I'm not looking at what I'm eating :P
