This is both a rant and a plea for help...I'm very confused when it comes to measuring for bra size. I've bought bras from Frederick's of Hollywood, but had to wear a sportsbra over it because of "spillage". I recently bought a bra (Le Mystere, Renaissance-9955, size 36 H) from Barenecessities.com and while the band fit great, the cups made my boobs look pointy! Most info on the web says to achieve your band size you measure under your bust and add 5 inches, but when I do that I get a bra that's too big...and don't even get me started on figuring cup size. Maybe because everyone is built differently these measurements are for the "average" woman? I do have small shoulders and ribcage, but extremely large breasts...I would love if large-breasted ladies could share some advice and/or stories...

We should do it Chinese style, where they measure your chest about 40 different ways.

But yeah, I have no useful input.

First of all - I NEVER buy a bra without trying it on, doing a few jumping jacks and toe touches in the mirror.  And I'm only a C to D cup.

What you need to do is go somewhere where there is a bra fitting specialist on hand.  JCPenney here has one that you can schedule an appointment with.  A lot of the specialty bra stores also have one.  (Frederick's bras are supposed to have "spillage", aren't they?)

lol!...wow, Chinese style sounds complicated, calypso

puh8suwrux...I have gotten measured by a bra-fitting "professional" at Dillard's, but she said I was a DD when I clearly wasn't. As for Frederick's, yeah some spillage is good, but not when you get the dreaded 4 boob look! :)

LOL.  Frederick's really doesn't seem to cater much to the larger cups anyway, at least not when I was looking.  And you definitely have to go with more coverage.

I thought a "professional" would be able to do more than you could do on your own with a measuring tape - good thing I didn't spend any money on THAT!  I never had much success with the charts myself.

LOL - you gotta make sure it still looks/feels good after you tie your shoes!

the spilage from fredericks may have just been the wrong bra style, not size. if your tata's are big you want to make sure they have nice support- full cup(not demi which will cause spillage for bigger boobies), probably dont want push-up, wide straps(around the ribs and shoulder). when i went shopping for a new bra there were ones that didn't fit quite right but were the right size, it was just the wrong style for me.

If you have a large chest this is my far the best place to buy a bra.  They even make cute sexy ones for us larger chested girls.  they also make clothes which is a plus :)

Thanks for all your input so far :)

I took a look at that website, canuckabroad...looks like they have some great bra/clothing options for busty gals, yay!

this is what you do

with no clothes on measure snugly right under the breast next to your rib cage.

if you measure under 33 inches add 5 inches.

If you measure over 33 inches add 3 inches.  As always round up to even number after.

So I'll give you my measurements.Im 29 inches add 5 inchess that gives me a band size of 34

Now for cup size again with nothing on measure across breast at fullest. not to tight.  the difference between the first measurement without the additional inches added and the breast measurement accounts for your cup size.

I measure 32 inches.  So 32 -29=3  1 inch/cup so im a c cup

I measure 34 c

This works I measure women all the time at work.

That sounds right...better than what most websites were telling me to do...Thanks spuckine!

I get a 36 I?...does that sound right???

under measurement 33

over measurement 42

Is there such a cup size???

If I can be of assistance in any way, please let me know.

Just kidding.

If you ever watch any of the fashion shows like "What Not to Wear" they always say most women don't wear the correct bra size. Women with big boobs tend to wear cup sizes that are too small. Here's a great site that tells you how to measure.

Go get measured by a professional!  I can't tell you how amazing it was finally fitting into the right bra.  I look 10lbs lighter.

The most important part is that it is 'snug' around your body.  That is what should provide the support (not the straps!).  You should juuuust be able to slide two fingers under the bra.  The strap needs to be tight enough so that it doesn't ride up your back... it should go straight across.

I have to admit - when I lived in Canada I always thought I was a 36DD.  I came over here, got fitted and I'm a 32GG!
