frustrations with not losing weight
so i've been eating healthy and watching my calories now since the end of august, and i dont see any results. i mean i dont need to lose that much, i just want to drop about 5 lbs. im 5'10 and i am about 151 and it makes me so angry because i have lost nothing, and i've been making very good decisions about food and im and athlete so i practice 5 days a week and then i lift weights extra on some days, so i usually eat around 1900-2100 calories a day, which might seem like a lot but with every calculator and stuff that i've done it says i burn about 2600 a day. but the thing is that i will dip below 150 and i can usually get down to 148 and then my weight just comes back up and its not like i change anything that im doing, its just impossible to keep my weight down and its so frustrating because i've been working so hard at this especially with holidays coming up and im not seeing any results..
The only thing I can think of is that with doing so much working out, you may be gaining muscle which weighs more than fat, so even though your shape is changing, you may not see much difference on your weight. My suggestion would be to take your measurements if you haven't already and let that tell you - anyone doing that much exercise is going to increase lean muscle. Also, if you don't, make sure you drink lots of water so you don't have any water retention throwing off the number of the scale. ![]()
I hear you! I feel like I have the same problem, however I am not super strict with my diet all the time so I imagine that's why I have trouble losing weight. I'm 5'8 between 140- 144, and I work out hard. I have trouble losing weight and i often get frustrated because of this.
I liked the idea of taking your measurements to see progress. Also how about changing your routine & doing different exercises to see if that helps at all?
All I want is to see 135 again, but it seems impossible ..I can't work out any harder.
well the thing with changing my routine is that im in varsity sports, so outside of practice i dont have much time to do anything else, i went from volleyball season to swim season, so i dont usually do too much working out on my own besides lifting.
You guys blow my mind. I'm 5'9"- and I know for a fact that at 145 I'm a toothpick with almost no curvage! Are you sure you're not okay where you're at? 155 is about as low as I'd ever want to go. Any lower than that and I have to worry about losing strength.
umm. with lifting, when was the last time you introduced new or different weights/exercises? I had 3 sessions with a personal trainer and I learned new exercises, and different orders, sets which seemed to help me lose some inches (but not weight) if your pressed for time, maybe that could fit into your schedule?
Have you thought that maybe your body is more comfortable around 150? It sounds like you're really active and have a lot of muscle, so maybe your body fat percentage has dropped. I'd second the advice to take your measurements and track them.
I think you should go and have your body fat measured by a doctor- get a really accurate figure. The scale really can't tell you how much of your weight is muscle and since you work out a lot, I'm guessing you're pretty dense. Relying on BMI calculations can also be very misleading. I think that's key, because you don't want to be 145 if it means losing 5 pounds of lean mass and it might be what your body is doing and trying to recover, hence the yoyo scale. Another consideration is sodium and water weight. I have a bad habit of regularly snacking on pickles (I even drink the juice!) and when I do that regularly, I always retain a few pounds of water. Eating frozen dinners and processed food will do the same. I should really cut back on daily sodium.
ha yeah, i mean i do have a lot of muscle so i guess ultimately it is just a couple pounds of body fat i'd like to lose, im really not all that concerned about the scale number, but i just dont feel like i've seen that much change in my body i guess. and i usually try to be pretty good about sodium and trying to avoid it. thanks guys!
