5ft and 1200 cals...does this sound right?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, I'm still unsure of this but i'll take a stab at asking anyone for advice. I'm 5ft and 100lbs, looking to lose fat. I've been working with a personal trainer for the last month, going to the gym 3-4x per week. I do about 30 mins of HIIT and weights, or sometimes aerobics classes to switch it up. I find it easier to log my cals on the daily plate. So, I logged myself as lightly active, then log my workouts seperately. It says that in order to lose 1lb a week I must eat 1,168 cals. My BMR is 1250, and my maintenance is about 1700. So I'm guessing thats correct. Either way I probably eat a little over 1200 every day because I don't measure EVERYTHING I eat, and I eat more on days that I do cardio. Does this sound right to anyone? I upped my cals to 1500 for a while and found that I just gained weight, and felt stuffed all the time. Is there anyone out there with similar stats looking to lose a couple? I also go out on the weekend and usually have about 4-5 drinks and a couple snacks...could that be hindering my weight loss? I feel like it sorta balances out because I have a good deficit during the wqeek...

I feel like its so hard for us shorties to lose a bit of weight...ARGH!

Hello,

I'm 5ft too.....but I currently weigh 124lbs (size 10) and am looking to get down to 100lbs (your current weight). I myself feel it a struggle to eat 1500, I feel stuffed. I'm not a big eater either. So I have downed my calories to only 1000 a day. In a bid to lose. Hope it works. I'm not as active as you, but I do walk about 4-6 miles a day doing school runs.

and I agree, it is hard for us shorties to lose weight......it sucks :(

1200 sounds about , eating less than that wouldn't be a healthy choice. If you want to create the largest calorie deficit (1000 cals) you would have to just burn more so you total burned calories shouldn't exceed 2200.

One more thing to add, maybe you should focus more on building some muscle that may giv eyour body the look you want, as oposed to just seeing a smaller number on the scale.

Hey! I'm also 5 foot 116 lbs and eat about 1200 cals a day. I work with a personal trainer twice a week lifting heavy weights and boxing and do elliptical cardio on my own 5+ times a week. It is insanely hard to lose weight/fat being as small as you are, but I wouldn't cut calories any further because I seriously doubt it would help. I personally can eat an entire pizza by myself in one sitting so I think that any less than 1200 cals for me would feel like a lot of deprivation. Plus, you're working out enough that you need every calorie.

It really looks like you're doing everything just fine and I think your calculations are probably right on. Since you're at the point where further weight loss will be very difficult, I would look at exactly where your calories are coming from and start paying really close attention to macros - pro/carb/fat. If you're lifting weights, make sure you're getting a ton of protein- my trainer told me to get 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight. It'll help you retain muscle and lose fat. Make sure you're eating clean foods and not a lot of processed stuff. Maybe cut out the white stuff- white sugar, white flour (whole wheat is awesome). I started doing that a little while ago and it definitely helped - I mean, I at least feel better doing that.

Another thing I want to mention is that at 100 lbs you're sitting pretty for weight, so you really should focus on body fat % rather than the number on the scale. Plus that way you'll lose a lot less muscle as you try to lose fat.

Good luck!
