I don't think I've ever ate so much.

In the past 3 days I've had 2 easter eggs, a large bag of doritos, a large bag of maltesers, a large bar of wholenut chocolate, a boost and a flake. That is on top of my meals. I feel so disgusting and like such a failure.

A slip is a slip. Pick yourself up, dust off. Don't do anything compensatory and stop calling yourself disgusting and a failure. It does nothing to help you - while moving on and figuring out your triggers will.

First, make sure you're eating enough. You don't say your age but if you're under 21 and female you need at least 1500 calories sedentary. And if you are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator instead: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html. You might be surprised to find you're potentially not eating enough and not eating enough is a very big cause of binge eating. So is lacking in a food group or vital nutrient so make sure to analyze your diet, too.

Eat everything you can in moderation. 50-60% carbs, 10-15% protein, 25-30% fats. Three or more servings of dairy or calcium rich foods a day, five or more of fruit and veg. Aim for complex carbs in order to meet fibre needs, and go for about 80% healthy, 20% fun foods. You can have your cake as part of a weight gain diet and eat it too, as well as "junk" and whatnot. There are no bad foods, only bad diets. Labelling things "bad" can make binges happen.

As well as the other things I've mentioned, make sure you eat enough during and throughout the day, and that your emotions aren't causing you to eat. Before you go to binge eat, ask yourself: are you Hungry, Anxious (or alternatively, Angry), Lonely, or Tired? If you're anything but Hungry, move away from the food and find something to busy your hands. Draw, paint, go for a short walk away from the kitchen and house... anything to keep you occupied.

I'd read After The Binge - By Annette Colby, PhD, RD, LD and go by the list there. If any of it applies to you, consider tackling it. But stop with the self-hate. It does nothing but make you miserable.

Thank you very much. I'm 17, so I should be eating around 1500-2000 as I exercise during the week too. I am actually undereating but trying to put it up. I think the reason I binge is due to the fact that it makes me feel really happy while I'm eating and I'm having a pretty rough time at the minute with some family issues (which I know is no excuse) but I guess I've used it as apick me up.

You would be surprised at how many of us use food to help us feel better. I consider the relationship I have with food to be very unhealthy, I love it and it loves to get eaten by me. There have been times I will eat a huge bowl of cereal for breakfast and an hour later eat a huge store bought chocolate chocolate chip muffin and then eat three hours later. When I am sad or lonely (like when my husband goes out) I go to the store and by junk food. I am trying to battle my demons, it really does help to know your specific triggers (anxiety over finals, feeling sad, being happy [yes people over eat when they are happy, actually more common]) and then diverting your attention from food and busying your hands. Good luck, sweetie!

no offense, but that's nothing compared to my binge last week. I binged 4 days (actually it may have been 5). on top of my regular calories, last week i ate 3 full sleeves of ritz crackers, 1 full sleeve of wheat crackers, a dozen hershey's kisses, 8 homemade buttermilk biscuits, 2 big slices of apple pie, 4 tablespoons of almond butter, 1 packet of ramen, 1/2 container of strawberry cream cheese and another 1/2 container of jalapeno cream cheese, 2 servings of banana pudding, 4 oatmeal raisin cookies, 2 servings of bread pudding, 1 chocolate chip muffin, 4 nutrigrain bars, 1 packet of reeses peanut butter cups, 1 whole frozen pizza, oh and i literally drank a cup of bechamel sauce. And that isn't even everything.

Have i mentioned i am a size 2, 19-year-old girl? it's shameful how much i can put away Frown
