Full Body Transformation! For anyone!

Quote  |  Reply

I just joined recently and a lot of people have been asking me how I lost my weight. I searched among the forums on the site about the way I did it, and it seems it is but scarcely mentioned. Not only that, but the way I did it is accessible for anyone who wants to try it.

I started what is called Power Yoga and that month, dropped 15 pounds faster than anything in my life had ever happened before.

I went on You Tube and found a lady that posts free Power Yoga flows for all different kinds of things-for weight loss, for overweight yogis (or people that used to exercise a lot and lost it), hip opening exercises, BOOTY BUILDING EXERCISES! And she is very knowledgeable and intelligent. She incorporated many different styles of yoga all into her very own unique flows. Her routines will have you sweating within the first 2 minutes (which was hard for me to push myself, but it's really worth it!) and they strengthen you, build muscle, burn fat, boost your metabolism, and also get you addicted quite fast and with a desire to continue! AND THEY'RE FREE!

So I am making this post because I've had to post the links repeatedly and I figured why not share this with EVERYONE!

It is a 4 part youtube series. What I did was bookmark them on my internet toolbar as 1,2,3,4 so they're easy clicks away when I want to work out. The routine is for anyone beginner to advanced. In the 3rd video she does hand stands, which is only thing I can't do in her videos, and I either fast forward past them, or just attempt them best I can, or do the other things she taught me while she's doing them until she's done and continue back to where she is.

It would be helpful to warm your body up a little before hand if you like to do that, but it's not necessary as she incorporated it all into the workout.

Go to YouTube and type in "Power Yoga" and up will come videos by a lady named SadieNardini and if you click on her name you will find all her routines. The series of 4 that I was doing was the Weight Loss Power Half Hour. You can message me for the direct links since I can't post them within this post for some reason. Or I'll try to post them in a comment.

Please try them and let everyone know what you think!
I would also recommend the "Booty Asanas" that have really helped tone by butt and back thighs.

ENJOY!

Cool! Thanks for sharing, can't wait to try them. :) BTW- I totally dig your dreads and username!

I'm glad you posted this, not for myself, but for the myriads of people who feel they have to dish out a load of cash on the latest "mega fat ripping ab system".

If people can be bothered, there are loads of free and effective workout routines for various fitness levels all over the internet.

The only thing I have to ask is if this program gives any advice on diet and nutrition.  A lot of the members on here do quite well with the amount of exercise they do, but often it's the diet that's holding them back from the results they desire.

This does not offer advice on nutrition, but I believe this is because most yogis are vegan, vegetarian, or raw foodists.

HOWEVER, if one was to do this or the other routines that this lady has on her site, diet would be of little importance. This is not to say that people should not pay attention to their diet, but for those that are willing to do more strenuous exercises but still have trouble eating cookies here and there, I believe this is the kind of routine they would want to try.

So I wouldn't have to pay that much attention to my diet if I did these half hour workouts?

The following line: This is not to say that people should not pay attention to their diet

You wouldn't have to WORRY about slipping on your diet here and there. But if you're one of those people that eats fine but just can't get away from cookies or candy sometimes, you'll still see tremendous results if you can REALLY work through these videos. When I first started I couldn't get past 2 minutes, but I did those 2 minutes 4 times a day, and worked myself up to more and more.

Remember that after a while of doing the same routine, your body is fully stretched to that routine and you'll hit a plateau and have to try something new if you want to keep losing weight. At that point, your diet will matter a lot more, because if you don't pay attention to it you'll gain weight and the exercises that once helped you lose it, if you're fully stretched and used to them, will no longer help to burn fat as much as before.

My advice would be to begin these routines, be CONSCIOUS of your diet and maybe ween yourself away from the things you KNOW are going to affect you afterwards, that way you're prepared to remain at a low weight when you get there.

If that were true I'd be 100lbs. I love to exercise but I LOVE to eat.

Thanks Grassdress for posting this! I'm going to try the routines tonight.

BTW- awesome body transformation!! The before/after is amazing.. was it purely Yoga and diet?

Thank you! That's all it was, not even Power Yoga until the last 2 months. Just regular sit on the floor or stand up and stretch yoga. My diet hardly changed at all. I just adjusted portions mostly.

Have fun! Please do post back and let me and everyone else know what you think and how it made you feel!

Wow! I use to flirt with yoga and meditation when I was about 13 or so. But from your results I think it's time I tried it again.

Thanks for posting this!

thank you for sharing with us!:)

I will try!:)Hope it works for me as well!:)

good luck to the rest of you

Eh, exercise+no dietary intervention = embarrassing results. It doesn't actually matter what the exercise is, because there's no way on Earth you can out-train your food intake.

I watched them all the way through, and that's a nice flexibility workout with some strength endurance and balance components. Yes, it's helpful in the sense that anything helps, but there's a reason there's three sections to the FAQ, no one workout paradigm can cover everything you need. (And in a second this is going to become circular as I'm about to add this post to the FAQ in the appropriate section.)

The really good yoginis I know choose the appropriate tools for the physical qualities one is looking to develop - the Yoga paradigm is the right choice in some instances, and the wrong one in others. For mind/muscle connection, flexibility, mindful movement and meditation yoga is the right choice, for fat loss purposes it lacks the appropriate level of resistance for anyone but a beginner who hasn't mastered body weight exercise yet.

This isn't to say that it's not helpful and that it won't be a good place to start if you are that beginner, just to note that one should not become stuck in a single mode of exercise or training paradigm longer than it's useful for your goals.

Thanks for the info grassdress! I'll have to check them out sometime.

It might be something nice to add to my routine. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just did a face plant against floor! DIET is ESSENTIAL regardless of exercise!!!!

Thank you for the links, grassdress; I've been looking for something different to add to my current routine, and this seems like a nicely-paced workout for at night or early morning, maybe for on my days I don't go to the gym.  I did forty minutes of the videos tonight (a couple beginner, a couple core; I looked at what other videos she has) and I can say that some of the moves are quite tough - I'll stick to this for a while and see how it goes.  :)

Yikes, I knew this would happen.

I didn't say COMPLETELY FORGET ABOUT YOUR DIET, I said if you eat cookies here and there, or sometimes slip up on your diet, you won't have to worry about it- it will be of little importance. With many diets and exercise routines, one can often get depressed for a bit about the cookies they ate and if their exercise routine will be able to counteract it.

Watching the videos all the way through will give you a little bit of insight, but considering she goes into downward dog so much, which has you sweating instantly because it's flipping your heart and the flow of blood, the level of intensity is not understood fully until you try the whole routine. It's surprisingly a lot rougher than it looks.

From personal experience, I ate junk food while doing these routines and I still lost a whole lot of weight, and evenly all over! I think I benefited from this through the mind, muscles, strength, flexibility, and burnt a ton of calories and lost a lot of fat.

Your post is misleading...you cannot eat junk food and lose weight. Period. Unless you are eating two bbq chips a day. Having a cookie NOW and THEN..NOT everyday...is impt to note. Also, there are a lot of SKINNY junk food aholics which equates to a VERY unhealthy person. Health is the goal. Your body is the consequence.

I don't think she's saying if you live off of junk food you'll lose weight and get healthier.

I think she's saying the occasional treat won't kill you.....
and from my experience (regardless of my exercise routine) the occasional treat doesn't hinder my weight loss.

subscribed!

But she's making it seem like THIS routine allows you to have the occassional treat, whereas all others....?
