Full Body Transformation! For anyone!
I just joined recently and a lot of people have been asking me how I lost my weight. I searched among the forums on the site about the way I did it, and it seems it is but scarcely mentioned. Not only that, but the way I did it is accessible for anyone who wants to try it.
I started what is called Power Yoga and that month, dropped 15 pounds faster than anything in my life had ever happened before.
I went on You Tube and found a lady that posts free Power Yoga flows for all different kinds of things-for weight loss, for overweight yogis (or people that used to exercise a lot and lost it), hip opening exercises, BOOTY BUILDING EXERCISES! And she is very knowledgeable and intelligent. She incorporated many different styles of yoga all into her very own unique flows. Her routines will have you sweating within the first 2 minutes (which was hard for me to push myself, but it's really worth it!) and they strengthen you, build muscle, burn fat, boost your metabolism, and also get you addicted quite fast and with a desire to continue! AND THEY'RE FREE!
So I am making this post because I've had to post the links repeatedly and I figured why not share this with EVERYONE!
It is a 4 part youtube series. What I did was bookmark them on my internet toolbar as 1,2,3,4 so they're easy clicks away when I want to work out. The routine is for anyone beginner to advanced. In the 3rd video she does hand stands, which is only thing I can't do in her videos, and I either fast forward past them, or just attempt them best I can, or do the other things she taught me while she's doing them until she's done and continue back to where she is.
It would be helpful to warm your body up a little before hand if you like to do that, but it's not necessary as she incorporated it all into the workout.
Go to YouTube and type in "Power Yoga" and up will come videos by a lady named SadieNardini and if you click on her name you will find all her routines. The series of 4 that I was doing was the Weight Loss Power Half Hour. You can message me for the direct links since I can't post them within this post for some reason. Or I'll try to post them in a comment.
Please try them and let everyone know what you think!
I would also recommend the "Booty Asanas" that have really helped tone by butt and back thighs.
ENJOY!
Well, she's just speaking from personal experience.
She did that specific workout, didn't change her diet, and saw results. She can't really speak on behalf of all routines, she was just letting people know what gave her results.
I've changed up my exercise routines quite a bit, therefore I've realized that regardless of the routine I'm doing, I can treat myself.
I don't like speaking for the OP, so I apologize to her if I'm completely off base with all of this!
Um, she said that she adjusted portion sizes. That's a change to diet.
I'm not saying that this isn't a good yoga routine, I just think that she's being misleading about the importance to controling diet (controling diet doesn't have to mean eating different things, just different amounts, especially if you already eat balanced).
I just think (as usual) the thread got blown out of proportion.
If you look at her gallery she really has had an impressive weight loss. She mentioned people were asking how she went about it, and she was simply letting everyone know.
I didn't read her post and think: "I'm going to do this routine, live off of cupcakes, and lose tons of weight!"
She controlled her portions, enjoyed the ocassional treat, and did the power yoga routine. I don't see what everyone is getting so huffy about?
It seems she's stressing the power yoga, because that's what she believes was the most essential part to losing the weight.
I was mostly confused by fitnessgirll's reply (post #17), to be honest.
I think that you are right - that it is getting blown out of proportion.
But when I read the post about diet (#4) it really stood out to me - you can NOT outtrain your diet. And the way her post read made it seem like diet is secondary to this routine. And even those of us who believe lifting weights is the best thing since sliced bread will tell you the best routine in the world won't get you anywhere unless your diet is in check. Maybe her diet already was - but the way she wrote it I found misleading.

Yep.
Fair enough.
ETA: this post was in response to amethystgirl
It's an excellent workout. I just did it because I wasn't up for the gym earlier tonight and it totally kicked my ass.
Sometimes posting around here is like trying to walk through Yankee Stadium when it's full of vampires and you just cut yourself shaving...it's vicious!!!!...lol. If anyone had bothered to take 5 seconds and look at Grassdresses' profile before they sunk their teeth into her neck, you would have learned that she is a self proscribed, "fruit and veggie" eater. I don't think there's anything wrong with telling people not to stress out over their diet, and to take up a free exercise routine and see what results you get, especially when someone like Grass is so obviously brimming with enthusiasm and excitement over the difference that this has made in her life. I'll take 1 personal success story over any ten so called "experts" any day.
It's so easy to poke shots at people because they aren't perfect in their approach or don't follow the unwritten "PC" code of conduct for CC but not so easy to celebrate, without reservation, the successes and triumphs of others...
Sounds like I'm running for office...lol...
Thanks for being an inspiration and all the helpful links.
I added them to my YouTube.. haha :)
grassdress: welcome to the forums!
I'm a bit sad that you are 2 for 2 in starting threads that go nuts. Don't give up on us just yet, it will get better. I think everyone's a bit bored and stir crazy on the forums this week. You will quickly learn who to take seriously, who gives good advice, and who is here to nitpick your diction, sentence structure, and implications you didn't know you were making. For instance, melkor typically gives good advice and opinions.
I took this as YOU didn't change your diet and did this and lost weight, not that you were recommending I eat 4000 calories a day and this will solve my problems, apparently others didn't interpret it that way. And yes, as all good exercise goes, a regular workout of any sort will allow you to eat cookies every now and then and still lose weight. Power Yoga certainly would too : )
I assume you already had a relatively healthy diet and Power Yoga put you at a calorie deficit and got your metabolism in gear, so here are are (looking fabulous I might add).
And I'm going to try it, it looks great and somedays I get bored with my current workout and I've been looking for something to do at home to spice it up a bit.
Thanks!
I hope this is not going to be taken the wrong way, but am I really the only person who thinks the OP is very skinny (possibly underweight) and finds it troubling that she still wants to lose weight?
Shayen, please don`t be offended, I think you have a very pretty face, and seem like a very health-oriented, positive person, with a lot of originality. But your arms look so thin and bony that I felt concerned and just had to post this.
I apologize if it`s just me and my skewed views of what a healthy woman looks like. Feel free to post your stats and prove me wrong. :)
I don't think she looks too thin, Ily51. Her legs look really toned and I don't think he arms look very bony at all.
I'm defo going to try these videos, I'm going to yoga already once a week and it is such a good work out that I just have to try POWER yoga!!

If you're so concerned I think you should've pm'd this to her instead of saying it in her thread. I'm finding that people on CC are becoming increasingly judgemental and critical of people who are slim.
littlesimongeorge, I am slim myself, so your theory doesn`t hold up. The reason I didn`t PM her was stated clearly in my post - I wanted to check if my personal point of view was skewed or not. Obviously, it was, and I can perfectly understand that without the aid of unnecessary accusations, thank you very much. :)
Well it's true I'm afraid, some sections of the CC community have been judgemental and critical of slim people.
I just felt it was off topic and unecessary in the thread as all she was doing was sharing her experience with Yoga and encouraging others to try it!
Well I saw this post and thought I'd try the 4 part workout, it feels nice and you feel really stretched out afterwords, but I'm not sure how many calories you actually are burning feels more like a stretching/relaxing/toning? thing. It felt nice though and I will do it again for sure, also will keep at my cardio stuff!
Just thought I'd also mention that the lady who does the workouts says to eat between 1200-1500 calories and once you start to lose weight you can start to eat more like a cookie here and there, for example, just like any other diet or weight loss advice! I think people got the wrong idea about that.
ps holy **** on your pictures! just thinking of bending like that hurts! And you look awesome!

yeah and its FREE, thats the best part. i tried some of them cuz ive been pms-ing really bad and it helped. but i can't do some moves because i have hypermobility in some joint areas. including my back which needs more stability work than stretching. just depends on what sort of back problem one has.
and thank you grassdress for re-wording your post, sounds much better. i just think it was the 'of little importance' that got off the wrong foot. even tho you didn't mean it literally.
Just to add: if you're large (like me), look under other videos by the same woman, and she has a series for overweight yogis that is a bit more accessible.
Loving it.
Grassdress: Danke für den link! Ich hoffe, daß die ganzen "Streiterein" nicht all zu sehr abschrecken! Schöne Grüße in die Hauptstadt!!
Btw...SF is one of mz favorite cities in the US, and now you live in my favorite German city...!!!
I've done the videos three times now and I'm really feeling it in all my lower back and thigh muscles, it's fantastic.
