Hi mommybody.   I was reading your post to the fun girls in their 20's forum.  It was almost as though I was reading my own post.  I am 28 am 5'1" and weigh 170 pounds.  I want to lose 50 pounds to get back to my weight before I had any kids.  I had my second baby five months ago.  I want a third baby in a few years and need to lose the weight before that can happen.  I refuse to weigh any more than I do now!  Oh and your first day was Jan 16th.  My first day was Jan 14th.

Anyway...I thought it would be nice to have someone in the same situation as me to talk to.Laughing

Hey again,

mlbryan- I know what you mean, it has always been hard for me to cook for just me though, and now with always having to cook for my bf and sometimes we have dinner parties and then caution is almost thrown to the wind....

Set- As for putting things on smaller plates, that goes a little way... I have a big bowl of salad before eating my regular part of my meal and thats on a small plate, but even if I eat the salad and feel almost done, I feel guilty for not eating what I made on my plate... or I feel like if I dont eat it I'll be hungry later and it wont be nearly as good then.

Oh and about the whole bf and I cooking separately- HA. My fiance, doesnt cook. He might grill, or boil water if I can convince him to and make salads.... but thats about it. Since we dont have a grill, boiling water doesnt do much for the protein part of a meal and I cant just eat salads for the rest of my life like a rabbit- I think I am out of luck... lol

In any case... I made something really good last night and made myself stop... because I only made enough for he and I and if he was still hungry I made him a salad... so that was kinda good. :)

Maybe I'm on the way to progress.... course... a big mac is only a short drive away.... Undecided

anyone else have any ideas on the whole psychological eating thing... and the whole resisting crazy cravings?

Hello. I'm 26 from nyc. I want to lose about 10 pounds, but i keep procrastinating.

I'm craving cheetos...yummy little orange delights.

I know that sometimes it helps to give in to the cravings, but when I do that I end up feeling guilty and angry at myself for allowing food to control my life. So when that happens, I try to concentrate on how awful I feel at that moment, and how much better I felt before I gave in. That usually helps me ward off cravings for a little while at least.

I know that makes me sound a little psychologically warped, but it really isn't as bad as it sounds.Smile

Jessgwilan: Your kitty is cute! What is his/her name?

Hey ya'll ~ Well i was wondering do any of u know if you gain weight on your period. I have weigh in every wednesday and i have stayed the same this week but it was also that time of the month so i wondered if that was why it should i had not lost.

Set:

Well, its kind of a story in fact.... my fiance and I adopted a cat from a shelter in the area when she was 2 yrs old.... now she is hmmm going on four this June... But this past May we adopted a pregnant stray. She was the sweetest beautiful gray cat. She had four kittens. We were going to let them stay with us till they were 12 weeks old and then give them away, however, it is much more difficult than we thought to get people to take them (and I'm a REALLY picky mom). So we ended up keeping all of them. We now have 6 cats. The one in my picture was only a few weeks old at the time and his name is Loki. (Mom's name is Sphinx, the two girls are long hair calico and their names are Freja and Artemis (Artie for short), and the other little boy is also black and white but with sleeker fur and a lonnnng tail and his name is Thor)

Freja will be moving to live with one of our friends when she gets her own place, and boy will we be sad to see her go. But since its one of our friends who will be in the area, she can always come visit and we can have play dates.... :)

as for the other- I dont think we could get rid of them even if we wanted to... Laughing

In any case, yea your method does sound slightly psychologically warped, lol but hey- whatever works as long as it doesnt develop into something unhealthy.... :)

I'm new too!  I'm 5'9" and want to lose 20lbs.  I will be 30 this year and live in sunny Indiana! :)  I would love to chat about exercising and food.  I love FOOD!  Maybe that is why I need to lose 20lbs....hmmm, interestingSmile

Margod and Set - I feel you. This weekend was awful. I made a point of weighing myself a day earlier so I could see how bad I did, and sure enough I lost 0 lbs. A far cry from the 4 lbs I lost last week Cry

The semi-good news is, that last Sunday/Monday are notoriously the most depressing days of the year. So, let's chock those days up as losses, and move foward with more good days.

As much as I love football, I need this season to be over to stop the 12-hour drinking and nacho-eating binges. So gross...yet so good.

Joanne I totally feel you....me and the BF have beer filled football weekends too! lol.. and this weekend I thought I would pay for it...casue we had beer, and went to Buffalo Wild Wings...plus I had a baby shower to go to on Sunday, and had a piece of cake...but I weighed in on Monday and I actually lost a pound!  I am up to 13lbs since my start date of 1/8/08.

Two words for you GTLG: not fair!

But in all seriousness, congrats! Whats your workout plan like?

Hi!  My name is Tracy!  I just turned 28 and I want to make a change.  I am 5'7 currently at 158 lbs. Over the past few years, I have gained 5lbs per year.  I would love to lose approx. 25 lbs by end of April for a wedding I am attending.  Feel free to add me as a friend or send me a message if you want to have a buddy to chat with over the next few months.

I hope to talk to you soon,

Tracy

Hello!! My name is Vanessa from Fremont, CA... I am 27, 5'2, 195 lbs and want to be around 145 lbs. I am my heaviest at a size 16 and want to be around a size 10..... Thats almost half my size!!  I havn't even had kids yet so I don't want to see myself get bigger. Every year I talk about losing weight but this year it is a bit different.  I thought I should share this because it helps keep me on track. To make it more competitive I decided to send an e-vite to all  my family and friends( it helps when you have a lot of family, mom came from a family of 12!) for the Family Biggest Loser.  I made it more exciting by having the contestants join with a buy in of $100.  We measured our body fat and the member who loses the most body fat percentage in 6 months wins the pot of money.  We currently have 11 members..... Thats $1100!!

I thought I could link the evite but I will paste my evite below... Sorry for making it too long.... This is my first post on the site.  I hope to hear some more ideas!!  Hope you Enjoy!

Are You Ready? Are You Serious? It's Time to Stop Making Excuses. Its A New Year! Lose Weight!  Look Great!

Let's play the Biggest Loser with a buy in of $100.  The person who loses the most body fat will win the pot of Money.

The Contest Starts on January 15th And Will End July 15th.

Here are the rules!

1. Have your body composition measured by Calipers, not Bioelectrical Impedence.  If you need to have someone measure your body fat ask our Family Trainer Jordan Guzman.

Here are the measurements we need, Back of Arm, Stomach, Quad, Hip, and Shoulder Blade. Also, it would be helpful to have your weight and inches so you can see your progress.

Don't worry if you do not want Jordan to Pinch your Fat, we can go to 24 hour and get a free measurement :)

Measurements must be witnessed by one of two people... Jessica (Family Nurse), Jordan (Family Trainer)

For the sake of privacy measurements will not be shared unless you want to.  They will be held by Jordan and Jessica.

2. The Money ($100)  will be given to Jessica Pinilla.  She will be our Money Coordinator.  She will deposit the money into a savings account.  The money will need to be collected before the start of the contest.

3. Pounds lost will be collected and emailed to all contestants monthly for informational purposes only.

4.The winner will be determined by the one who loses the most body fat percentage.  That does not mean the lowest body fat percentage, but who LOSES the highest body fat percentage. If there is a tie, the winnings will be split.  The percentage measurement will be the most fair in determing the result.  It will provide a level playing field

5. Have fun, Work Hard... No Complaining and No Cheating!!  (Yvette, I mean you!)

Now that you have read the 5 Simple Rules, Sign Up and Pass Along to your Family and Friends.  The more we have signed up, the more money I WILL win!

vanluvjam - that is a pretty cool idea!  i wish i could do that... it seems i am the only member of my family (well, i guess i don't have a very big family) who is struggling to lose and keep off.  but that is the greatest idea to help w/motivation.

also, just had to share:  i scored my 2nd goal this season in our soccer game last night!  Plus I had a few shots on goal and 1 assist.  Heck yes!

Hey!  Laughing

My name is Carole, im 27, I'm from Scotland and Im new to this too so please add me as a friend everyone!

I have put on a lot of weight since the summer (combination of contraceptive implant and eating out with new bf!) and determined to shift it. I  put on a whole stone and looking to lose 10lbs.....

Think I am motivated when it comes to healthy eating and counting the calories - so far anyway but seriously lacking the motivation when it comes to excercise and going to the gym lol! Any suggestions? xx

Hi all,

Mandy-andy - I'm totally PMSing and I always gain weight the week before. I just don't even weigh myself, because it will really piss me off. I'm sure that is why you didn't lose this week. Don't even count it.

I'm glad those super-depressing days are over, joanne. Plus it was a full moon on Tuesday night, and that always throws me off. I'm doing well so far today, and will go to yoga tonight. That is something I look forward to.

Hi everyone! I am 23, 5'4" and 168 lbs. I am getting married on July 19th and want to look cute...but more important I want to wear a bathing suit comfortably on my honeymoon!! I am hoping that is enough motivation, but have been looking online at lots of stuff to keep me going too. My goal for now is 15 pounds by March 20th, and then I will set a new one at that point. Anyways I just wanted to say hello, and we can do it! GO US!
What has happened to our thread ladies?!?! I hope you all are still doing great! Have a good week!

I know - I've been falling down on the job. I am not doing very well. I have a lot going on right now, but tomorrow I will be back on track. I have a long day, but I will be going to yoga tomorrow night. Then I will check back in and log my food and weight and write a journal entry. I ust had to write that out so that I will actually do it! (or you all can give me a hard time)

FIrst of all I want to say that you guys are not the only ones who have uncontrollable cravings.  I love Reese Cups.  They are my weakness.  If my husband gets me a king size Iwill eat the whole thing!  I love food period.  I am from the south where everything is fried, smothered and covered and I  LOVE it.  I have noticed over the past couple of weeks that I have gradually started to change my eating habits and gradually started to crave those things less.  I rarely crave coke now and I was drinking an average of 4 glasses a day.  I now order water in public - before I ordered coke purely out of habit and didn't even know it.  The other night I realized it is ok to have a treat every now and then and not beat myself up over it.  I also realized that after I downed that Reese Cup what was the outcome?  Besides satisfying that craving, it did nothing for me.  I have started eating Wasa crackers with peanut butter on them to hit the sweet spot and also have a decent snack.  I know this probably hasn't helped much but I thought I was the only one who desired certain things so bad I would sneak them in the house for my benefit!

Now I have a question. I heard on tv this morning that unless you run more than 30 miles per week, running alone may not change the shape of your body.  Is this true?  I have a pretty sedentary lifestyle which I am trying to change and I have a treadmill at home.  I have a 2 year old so basically all I can fit in a day is 30 minutes of walking/running combo on the treadmill.  Any suggestions?  I go to school part time and I get free access to the gym and weight room which I may need to try to start taking advantage of.  I feel like an idiot cause I don't know how to use the weights but all I ever hear is how important strength training is.  Got to get rid of the spare tire!!!

jessica - where did you hear that????  while there may be some truth to it, i can tell you from experience that it is not completely true.  when i started weight watchers last year, all i did was walk 3 or 4 times a week.  then to get rid of my last 5 lbs, i started running 3 miles, 3 times per week.  now 9 miles a week is a far cry from 30.  further more, you shouldn't start out w/ 30 miles a week anyway.  start with what you can do and push it a little bit more every time.  be sure at maximum, when you are adding distance, you only add 10% (ex: if you are running 1 mile, the next week, you should only add another tenth of a mile for 1.1 miles at each session).  bottom line:  do what you can.  don't push too hard or you will hate it and probably end up injuring yourself.

weight-training?  yes, i have to say that it is extremely important.  it helps you have proper form for the other exercising you do.  does the weight room have an attendant?  he/she should be able to show you how to use the different machines.

i'm lucky, my bf has a weight bench in his basement and so he helps me and has taught me the proper form.

Anyway, good luck!
