Fun upper arm exercises?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay so I actually am happy with most of my body (shocker, I know!) EXCEPT for my upper arms. Ever heard the expression 'bingo wings'?

I exercise regularly (5x/wk)...if I enjoy the exercise. I currently run, sprint, skate, play soccer and hike--which doesn't do anything for my arms.

I don't enjoy lifting weights/isometrics, and I hate baseball and basketball. Any other ideas (preferably fun ones!)?

Swimming works the arms.

Other than that... splitting wood?

Weight training is going to be your best bet for creating muscle which is the only way you are going to tone your arms.

If it is the weights themselves that bother you: Push ups? Chin ups?

Since you currently don't use much of your arms for any of your current exercise something like yoga could help with a minimal amount of strength increase for your arms.

Rowing/rowing machines (but it doesn't sound like you go to a gym so these may not be too available if you don't) are cardio based but might provide more arm input than other activities you are partaking in.

Perhaps tennis or squash?

Your best (and likely only) solution though really is strength training. Maybe give it another try? You don't need a 'gym' to get your strength training in - there are plenty of at home things you can do!

How about boxing class?

Contact boxing is awesome! I do it twice a week. Also, you can do that exercise where you put your hands down behind you on the floor, extend your legs, and do tricep dips. You can do it on a chair in the office, at home watching tv... it's easy to get 20-30 dips in a few times a day, and your arms will look great.

I live in a pretty small town (rural)--boxing, swimming, rowing sound fun, but...the nearest gym is more than an hour away, as for rowing and swimming, I have no water but a neighbor's pool that I'm uncomfortabe using without her at home :(

But thanks guys! I think I'll try and look up some more fun strength training exercises. I'll try to get over my hate of repetitive exercise!

Push ups.  Google 100 push up challenge, your arms will be in great shape after this.

I just checked out the 100 push challenge...looks great!  smwhipple...have you completed this?

I started it, never made it beyond week one.  I did start a group for it on CC and you're more than welcome to join and track your progress through it.

I just joined the group and also did the initial test.  cant wait to try day one although from reading everyones posts it looks pretty hard.

www.shovelglove.com :)

I think it's pretty fun and definitely works my arms and shoulders.
