Funny/Stupid story I heard on the local news....

Quote  |  Reply

Apparently this woman is trying to find and press charges against a fake psychic who has been misleading her.  Apparently the woman is a single mother of 3 kids and spent all her savings totalling $37,000 on a psychic who promised to rid her house of bad spirits and cure her son of autism.

Im sorry, but I think the biggest crime here is that the mother is a moron.   Obviously the psychic is a scumbag, but who gives $37,000 to a psychic and believes that her son will be cured of autism.  The news is making the mother sound like the victim,  I think she is just an idiot.

I don't know.  I think there is a fine line that this psychic crossed.

It's one thing to show up on TV and say "call me and I'll tell you your future..but you know you gotta pay me for it".  I think it's completely different to go to someone's house, tell them you will give their money back after you've finished cleansing it (or whatever) and then NOT give their money back.

She IS an idiot....But until you've had a child with autism, and known how hard that is, I'm not sure you can really feel her pain.

I have an Aunt who's son is autistic, and he will never be able to be on his own. I know she would give ANYTHING to make him be able to function like someone without autism.

37K is a lot to spend on a 'snake oil' remedy, but I can't imagine the desperation someone in her position must have felt....

Then again, that's 37K that her family is now without because of her naiievity.

i definately think the psychic crossed the line and of course i feel bad that her son is autistic.  but 37 thousand so a psychic can rid your house of demons and cure your son of autism?!?!   youve need to be at least halfway intelligent especially if you have a disabled child.  come on.

I feel awful for her child more than anything.

i totally agree.  his mom really screwed him over, if you think about it.

Never underestimate a psycho.

Over here in Singapore, many senior citizens get conned everyday due to similar reasons. I guess if one is desperate to solve a problem, he or she will do almost anything and everything.

Reminds me of the old saying: "A fool and his money are soon parted."

While the "psychic" lady is clearly unethical, its kind of her job to scam people. Therefore, frivolous lawsuit.

As for curing autism by visiting a psychic: this is why we need better science education in schools.

exactly.  i can understand getting conned for a couple hundred or even a couple thousand, but if it takes 37 thousand before you realize you are an idiot, then you reaalllly must be an idiot.

I agree with you that the mother is a moron, but I still feel the biggest crime goes to the "psychic" who preyed on an emotionally desperate woman. Last I checked, committing fraud is illegal, but simply being stupid is not.

On a related note, if I had some magical psychic way to actually cure autism in people, I would just use it. Not only do it if you give me $37,000.

i agree coffincritter.  i heard the mother talking on tv and she acted so stunned though.  she couldnt believe that the woman who asked for 37,000 dollars to do magic voodoo on her house was not legit.  the psychic is a crook and the mother is an idiot.
