Funny tip for those who binge

Quote  |  Reply
I just talked with my friend @ a local coffee shop... she was eating a huge muffin, but super slow... as if she lacked motor skills ...

I was kind of confused and asked "why are you moving like that"

And so it started.... her "tip"...

she, a right handed person, was eating with her LEFT hand... she said it helps her eat much slower and therefore, result in eating less/not as fast/etc...

just thought I'd share!

LMAO... That's actually a really good idea! Sometimes I chose to eat with chopsticks, cuz they force me to take tiny bites, and "pick" at my food. (I did try to double the effect by using them in my left hand, but almost lost an eye that way... so unless you have crazy dexterity, I wouldn't recomend it *grin*)
=>  Both of you, those are great stories! lol!

I am right handed, but I usually eat left handed...unless I'm at a table and someone is on my left, then I eat right handed. Maybe if I ate no handed that would help me!

I'm having a mini-binge right now (it's going to be my last ever I promise!!!!!) and I'm going to start doing this!
I always eat dinner like I have a plane to catch.  Chewing more doesn't work for me.  I'm trying your tip tomorrow.  Thanks!
I have chopsticks, I should use them more often.
I'm eating popcorn right now, and I'm using this tip.  Your friend is a GENIUS!!!
I like the chopsticks idea.  I am usually a very slow eater, not because I've made it that way, just always been like that. Hawever, some meals I scarf down and others I can sit there for an hour.  A piece of steak will dissapear in the blink of an eye, but I'll mull over a slice of pizza for 30 minutes (with my fork and knife of course, another habit I've had since I was a little one).  I've always reserved chopsticks for chinese and japanese food, but I guess I can use then for anything, eh?
another idea: take bites with your non-dominant hand like you guys suggested, then set the utensil down and take a sip of water before your next bite

this is really helping me since no matter what i eat, i have a tendency to attack it like it will be my last meal, lol. This and drinking more water are probably my biggest challenges at this point, as far as developing healthy habits go. I just always forget to do it until the plate or bowl is empty, lol
what a great tip...i am going to try it.

although for something like a bowl of popcorn, i am pretty sure i can scarf it down no matter what hand i use!!
lol, well popcorn's not bad if you son't lather it with butter

3 cups of plain air-popped pocorn is less than 100 calories. I find it somewhat filling and it satisfies my urge to munch. Also it takes your hypothalamus (in your brain) 20 minutes of eating/chewing to register fullness so it helps with the time thing when you eat it only 3-4 kernals at a time
I LOVE popcorn!  During the work week, I have 94% fat free kettle corn every morning for breakfast.  It's only 225 calories for a whole regular size bag, contains several servings of whole grains, and has 50% of your DV of fiber.  It fills me up, takes forever to eat, and gets my day started right!  With a cup of coffee of course... Haha.

Yum.
Anything is worth a try and I am going to do this with dinner tonight.

Popcorn is the greatest snack EVER.  I eat both mircowave and I also use a popcorn popper.  If popcorn was a person I would marry it!  :D
I do this with my mini carrots I bring in my lunch.  28 mini carrots (which is quite a bit acually) is only 60 cal.  I eat them one at a time with my left hand, and take a drink of water between each carrot.  The carrots are so crunchy they take long to eat anyway, and with the water breaks inbetween and eating slower with my left hand they last forever! Also - by the time you are finnished you are so full of carrots and water that you NEED a break from eating (at least until the water kicks in and you are running to the bathroom)!  This is a great way to hold you over until your next meal.  Baby carrots have become my key snack for this reason!
My doctor suggested this to me as a way to NOT DEVOUR my food... It slows you down, and you fill up faster! Its a good tip I never even thought to put onhere, I do it naturally now.... IT WORKS!!! Especially a salad.. I used to feel like a drunk trying to stab food!
That's so funny! I broke my arm a few months ago, and when I first got my cast on - I know I lost at least a few pounds, only using my left hand. My mom would called me once to ask how my arm was doing - I even told her that my broken arm was a GREAT diet!
Ummm popcorn is the greatest thing ever. lol

I'm pretty much addicted to it. :-)

I eat the air-popped (so not from a bag) kind without any butter... but if I am absolutely craving butter flavor.. I use the fat free Pam Butter flavor spray! I know so many tricks, its not funny, ...well ... it kind of is ....lol!
hahah that's the funniest thing I ever imagined. thank you
Ha that's GREAT!

Here's another one. Maybe not as funny but still worth a try. When your half way done with your food. Get up from the table drink water/go to the bathroom. In other words let your food settle & if your not hungry when you sit back down, then you were going to eat too much in the first place.

Another thing, Serve yourself in a bowl or a small plate that way you don't pig out because of the size of the plate.
I have been crazy for popcorn lately, popped without fat, with butter added after popping... I'm not made of stone! I don't add fat to most other things I eat, and I make sure there is room in my calories.  I can chow down on it like there's no tomorrow, but the left-handed method definitely slows me down.

agape1897 - I totally use that method when I'm eating alone, I make myself get up to refill my water or something, just to pace myself.
It's a great method! I hate popcorn. I don't know why...wait...yes i do!. One day i almost choked on one. I think a little piece of it got stuck to the top of my throat. ewww.
