The Gabriel Method
I've heard of this method. Has anymone actually tried it? And what is it all about?
I don't know but since that's my husband's name I guess it's when a giant Australian comes to your house and yells at you until you don't eat
spirochete: LOL. That sounds like my mother
(except she's not a giant Australian)
I never heard of that before but I searched and found this:

There's also a main website for "The Gabriel Method" but I don't if that can be trusted for truthful info...
LMBO..very funny.
Thanks...but I've looked all over the internet and there is no open discussion or whatever on what it really is about.
:/
sounds pretty hokey to me. most of us wouldnt be trying to lose weight if we knew what our bodies (and minds and spirits) were trying to tell us in the first place!
I skimmed through the paragraph on the link Amber posted and it sounds like a huge scam. A man who was supposed to be on the airplane on 9/11 but his life was saved... it seems like just a made up inspirational sob story to bring in more money.
I'm not sure..oh well..maybe I could look up the book in Barnes & Nobles, maybe skim through it, but I won't buy it. :P
If only it were real :P :(

But it is real...
Jon is actually an American living in Australia. I have met him and he IS for real.
I have lost about 30kgs on the Gabriel Method in a bit over 6 months. I think the book is brilliant and essential reading for everyone. Most if us are missing the point - your weight is all about what is in your mind, not what you put in your mouth.
His CD is also very good but I prefer the guided audio meditations from nevereverdiet. I don't think you can beat that combination.
I can't help with the book but I am happy to share the meditations.

Hello,
I've read this book cover to cover. I also did some pretty extensive research before buying the book in a bookstore. I'll add that although I've struggled with my weight since a teen (and now I'm 40+), this is only the second weightloss book I've actually purchased. I have plenty of skepticism and a Ph.D. I expect a lot from what I read.
This book promises no magic bullet. And it does not just advocate positive thinking. If anyone has experience with cognitive behaviorial therapy (highly effective for weightloss, by the way), then you might think of Jon's approach as somewhat like that, except that the thought processes he seeks to reorder are not just those that we link with 'will power'. The method he developed for his own weightloss, which he shares, is one based on a good deal of real science (by which I mean published in peer-reviewed science or medical journals, substantiated with clinical trials, when relevant, etc.).
Some of the reviews you can find on-line make two basic complaints: 1) they've heard this before, and/or 2) it isn't based on research. These two can be addressed together. It most certainly is based (largely) on quality scientific research, and he documents this. But Gabriel is not a scientific researcher, although he has some educational background in biochemistry. So, it is unsurprising that what he reports is not 'new'--it is a synthesis of a great number of studies, not new original research of some small dimension of human biology or nutrition. There is an appendix that documents much of what he draws on to support the core idea of the book: your body is going to be as fat or lean as it thinks it has to to keep you safe, based on long-term evolutionary reasons and not your desire to look good at your next class reunion. Thus, what we call 'will power' is but a small part of it. The task, as he sees it, is to figure out how to work with your body rather than fighting it. By "work with" I mean signaling to your body that it is more advantageous to be lean rather than fat. He thinks we can do this in a variety of ways, many of them already documented in the scientific literature or strongly suggested on the evidence of specialized studies. So, the main things you can expect from this book are an explanation of what I've poorly summarized here plus concrete and specific strategies for how to do the work of communicating with your body that lean is the way to go. There are many, and one of my challenges in reading the book has been trying to keep track of them.
The book challenges some of the principles behind this site, as I understand it. He advocates NOT counting calories, restricting foods, and stepping on the scales regularly. I've found this part difficult, since I'm very committed to shedding pounds, and I'm impatient. But, I'm here at this site not just to have a formula for weightloss (which Gabriel won't give you, and this might be disappointing), but rather to learn more about the foods I am choosing, how to make better choices, and to find the motivation to do that. I suppose the same might be said of others here.
I've only been working on introducing some of Gabriel's ideas into my routines for about three weeks. During that time, I've lost about 2.5 pounds (I was at 142, looking to make my way to 125ish) and have noticed significant body composition changes (not by 'wishing' or just 'willing' but because I have *wanted* to be more active). If anyone is interested, I'll be glad to post more--either now about what some of the strategies are or later once I've had more opportunities to try them out.
Good luck everyone!
It is a wonderful book. I listen to the mental secrets cd every night. I feel so much better in the morning and thruout the day. I am not craving near the junk food I was before.

I find it very convenient that the posts advocating this book aren't giving away any information. It's almost as though they want you to spend money on the book...
Thats true...hmmmm?
