Will you gain back weight lost when sick?
So my question is this...yesterday I was sick with diahrea and nausea. I choked down 600 cals worth of bread/dry cereal because I know how unhealthy it is to not eat. I guess the question is, will my body automatically gain as I eat normally today? Will it already have gone into starvation mode?
Yes! I lost 8 pounds in 3 days. It was no fun, but I sure did like the number on the scale. It took about 3 more days, but it all came back. Sorry! ![]()
You will definitely gain back the weight you lose when you are sick because it isn't fat that you are losing. Fat will permanently stay off unless you put it back into your system. However, when you are sick, you lose most of your weight in fluids, especially from the type of bug you are describing. That isn't actual "weight loss". Sure, the number on the scale is lower for a few days, but it should come right back as you return to your normal diet.
You won't go in to starvation mode in one day. If you're vomiting/have diarrhea you may have lost water weight and that won't stay off, but you won't have messed up your metabolism in one day. Your body kept you from eating for a reason.
Yea i got food poisoning not too long ago and lost a whopping 15lbs in 2 days, i didn't even think it was possible. But sure enough it took about 2 wks until I gained it all back, and my metabolism is pretty much the same.
I'm over here wasting away with a REALLY bad cold but no fear, the weight is waiting for me just around the corner
