Why do you want to gain weight so fast?

It takes a surplus of 3500 calories to gain one pound, but everyone's body can react slightly differently when in recovery from anorexia. You may find you need to eat a lot more in order to gain. While there is no set limit on how fast you can gain weight, the likelihood is that your initial weight gain will be water and then after that there will be limits on the amount of food you can eat.

Remember that while weight restoration is a vital part of recovery from anorexia, it is not all that's required. You will also need to figure out different ways of coping with life that do not involve restricting food or abusing your body.

I wouldn't recommend attempting extreme weight gain as I would think that you might begin to freak out about your changing body and go back into restriction mode. 1-2lbs of weight gain per week is a healthy rate of gain for most people, but check with your treatment team or a doctor and see what they have in mind.

For the safety of your body, you should not try to gain more than 2-3 pounds a week. You may initially see larger jumps than that as your body adjusts to consuming more calories and having to digest food - but that is mostly water weight and retention.

I should add - if you are in danger of refeeding syndrome then you should definitely not be attempting a high rate of gain.

thanks for the advice :)

but can i eat a large amount to try to gain quickly, for example over 4000 calories sedentery or is this too much?

I ate over 4000 ip and was sedentary. What were you eating before and for how long have you been suffering? I think getting healthy ASAP is good but wondering what made this change that now you want to gain so quick? I did have refeeding issues but not when I was on that plan. My body seems to respond differently with each time I have refed. I hope this is my last time or should I say this is going to be my last time.

im just sick of never having the energy to do anything, im starting school again next week, and ive had to drop out of my sporting clubs these holidays due to my anorexia.

at the moment im trying to eat around 3000ish calories, however if im not watched ill always go under

try not to panic about gaining weight , easier said than done i know but you cant rush recovery its also about getting a balance a bit of trial and error , sounds like you are trying very hard ,keep it up, you will get there ive often felt like you ,like i want to put all the weight on and be done with it but it doesent work like that like the other girls have said . i would just continue eating 3000 consistantly and see how you go thinking of you h x
