Can you gain inches from weight training? and starvation mode help!!
Okay so I've posted this before, but hopefully this can help you give me an answer :)
So I gained like 7 lbs since 3 months ago, and i have absolutely no idea why. So I realized I haven't been eating enough (1200cals) since I'm 15, 5'3, and I run 5km every day, but not on days that I have soccer (usually 3 times a week, sometimes 4) but soccer really does work out to pretty much 5 km worth of excercise since practices are 2 hours. How can I get myself out of this mess without gaining too much/if any weight?!
Anyways, my situation is pretty hard to explain, so I'll try my best haha. So I am really fit, and my stomache MUSCLES are ROCK hard (since I do situps/pilates) and i have a flat stomache and everything, ****BUT**** I have like almost 3/4 inch of fat ontop of my abs at the fattest part of my stomache. So i'm really confused as to why? I look like i have abs/a flat stomache but I have a lot of fat. So im guessing i'm skinny-fat?? but that doesn't make sense either because i'm doing so much sports! :S
One last thing (sorry for making it so long) I know weight training is good for raising metabolism, but is it possible to gain a lot of muscle, but not lose fat, and you end up looking FATTER than you were before?
You are seriously not eating enough; 2000 calories would be the minimum for a teenage girl as active as you.
Women are designed to have more fat on them than men: don't be surprised if at a minimum healthy weight you still have a bit of fat on your waist.
The extra fat you're talking about is normal. Everyone needs a little layer of fat on them, and women especially. One big problem I see here is that you are losing muscle. When you don't give your body enough calories, it always goes to the muscle tissue first for its food. You need a lot more calories since you are a teenager and you work out a lot. Teenagers need at least 1500-1800 a day and that is with no exercise. So you must be burning at least 500 on top of that. I would say to shoot for at least 2000 calories, and you can probably still lose weight.
However, since you've been eating so little, you might see a gain at first. Don't let this stop you from increasing your calories though, because you're young and your body will catch up soon. I was eating too little last year, and what I did was add about 100 calories every two days or so, and I didn't gain any weight. You can probably add more though, because I wasn't exercising. Good luck and eat more asap!!!

If you are male, eating significantly more calories than you're burning in a day (including a *lot* of protein) AND genetically predisposed to doing so (or making up for that by taking supplements), yes.
Unless you meet ALL of those criteria, no.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
