How do gain but loose?? PLEASE HELP!
So here's the deal, I`m recovering from a bunch of ED`s, mainly anorexia; and am 14, 5`3 and 100lbs, underweight, i know(i got it about 200 lectures ago, thanks anyways) (I was 150 in September btw)
Kay, so now I need to gain weight right, and yeah, I'm cool with getting back my hips and boobs, but stomach fat!? I'm terrified!! My stomach isn't considered `fat`but, it is a bit chubby, especially compared to the rest of my body, it seriously seems the belly is the the ONLY place my body stores the stuff!
I have started recovery well, and eat about 1600-1900 calories a day, and maintain.
I absolutely HATE doing exercises, well biking, dancing and all are fun, but to got sign up for a class, or buy a work out video, even doing sit-ups when i get home from school, drive me nuts! and bring back bad memories of when I was at my sickest!
Does anyone have any advise on how to gain weight around my hips and chest maybe, but possibly loose a bit around my stomach, if not, at least not gain around my stomach, without boring exercises??
All advise and segestions would be greatly appreciated!! THANK YOU!
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support forum
Well, since there is no way to selectively burn fat from any part of your body (it comes from where your body chooses - you don't get a say), it follows that there is no way to ensure that you gain weight in a particular way. We all (losers and gainers alike) would rather it was otherwise, but sorry to say, it's really not something that we have control over.
You won't get a different answer, but you might get some help on how to continue on your recovery over in the Weight Gain forum. Best of luck.
It is great that you are committed to getting back to a healthy weight! Amethystgirl is correct that you can't choose where your body puts fat. However, it is my understanding that during the process of recovery, it is common for people to gain the weight in their stomach areas first, but it will become better distributed with time. Also, since you are still young, your hips and chest may still have some growing to do. So don't stress over it!
Do check out the Weight Gain and Health and Support forums. Many of the posters there are going through something similar and are very knowledgable about the recovery process.
That's a good point, theholla. Also, and I'm guessing here, but if you are eating more food than you used to, it might make your stomach a little bigger - just because it has extra food in it?
But the most important thing is getting you healthy. It's so much more important than a little pudge - I swear.
This could be a crazy sudgestion but I saw a commercial for Hip Hop Abs on tv today. Ive never tried it or heard of anyone I know trying it but it looks fun, dont know if it works though. Anyways, it seems like a non boring way to work out your abs. If you like to dance try it out lol and if you do let me know if it works for you! :) Good luck!
Again, outside my area of knowledge, but should someone recovering from an ED and still underweight be doing ANY exercise?
Well, what everyone's said already is true, you can't really choose where you gain weight, but there's something I can tell you from experience.
When I was gaining weight after ED, I had a relatively big stomach compared to the rest of my body, because I was eating more than I was used to and my stomach was expanding and stuff. I was annoyed and unhappy at first when I couldn't button up my old pants. But once I reached a healthy weight it evened out again, and now I can wear my old clothes again. Not the tiny-tiny-ED sizes, but yes small-normal sizes, I even have some size 0 jeans that were big on me at my lowest weight, then I didn't fit into then while I was gaining, and now I can wear nicely.
If it's any help, while and after I gained weight I did BodyBalance and BodyPump, and almost no cardio. Those classes helped a lot because they build muscle.
Basically, if you reach a healthy weight and do some exercise, especially strength stuff while you're gaining, your body will sort itself out. Worked for me, at least.
exercise might suck but so does not being happy with your body. if doing crunches reminds you of bad times you can try a different exercise or just go through it when you are in a good mind state and recondition your feelings about working out, or try changing the environment you are in, or time of day you do it. try lifting weights. its not as terrible as cardio, honestly. plus i always get a rush afterwards like im on a nice opiate or something. that way you can feel good about exercise, and it will help your figure, and help you gain a little weight too probably. at first you might have to grind your teeth but just do it.
and everyone else is right about your stomach.. you are probably bloated from eating more food than your body is used to right now.
