HOW can I have GAINED a pound? AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRH
Hi all.
Start weight 13 stone 10 lbs
Weight last week - 12 stone 12 lbs
Weight today - 12 stone 13 lbs!!!!!!
HOW is it possible to put ON a lb when I am consuming the same calories (1400) every day as I have been doing since the start? The same (if not more) exercise?
I was so disheartened today - I was prepared not to have lost much, even stayed the same, but to have put ON weight is just so upsetting. I know I am going to have to get used to the scale fluctuating a bit but i am working so hard at this it is really annoying!
Any ideas?

Weight fluctuates daily for different reasons: water retention, undigested food in the stomach, full vs empty bladder, etc. Don't get hung up on individual numbers, just look at a trend.

Just relax. It happens. Also, you are only eating 200 calories over the bare minimum to survive. If you are exercising a lot and burning more calories than you need, your body might be trying to hold onto extra calories and not starve itself.
Relax, it's only a pound. Some days I am 163lbs, and some days I am 165lbs....but that's weight fluctuation because my consistent weight is 160lbs. It can be a pound of water weight, and if you consume the same amount of calories all the time, your body is so used to it that it can stall you out.
The same thing happened to me yesterday. I was extremely depressed about it... I read that you are exercising a lot more. I am exercising more than usual as well. When I saw that I gained a pound yesterday I had to remind myself that by exercising more I was gaining muscle and that may contribute to the weight gain. As long as muscle is the culprit for the extra pound, then we should rejoice!
Thanks for all the replies.
Sometimes I wonder if I was better off before, when I lived in blissfull ignorance of my weight fluctuations - at least then I didn't have to deal with worrying about it! Seriously, I know I am making important steps for my health but I don't want to become one of those people obsessed with calories and weight but I find myself thinking more and more about it!
Maybe I should try weighing in every fortnight instead of every week?
Hopefully the extra weight is just increased muscle mass, then we will burn more calories by doing nothing haha!

I face the same dilemma. It's hard not to feel disappointed when you work hard to lose one pound. It's almost like not fair. You gain a pound in a couple of days and you can't lose in less than a week.
But it's true how weight fluctuates. It's just hard for those of us who are trying to get them off not on.
For real? You're worried about one pound?
I weigh myself every day, enter the weight on a spreadsheet and then do an average of the previous 5 days. This will give you a good idea of what your weight is really doing. Don't focus on your weight each day; look at it over an average.
There are many reasons why: it could be water retention, your period, body changes due to menopause, increasing weight for weight lifting and building of new muscles, a scale with changes only in pounds, or the most simple and easily forgotten (even if minimal change), recalculating your calorie intake and burning for your new weight. It can be an isolated or compound reason.
This is a great article that explains weight fluctuations.

Thank you for the helpful replies.
As for the 'for real?' etc, let me explain - I am NOT weighing myself every day, I decided on once per week at the same time in the morning before I eat or drink. I presumed that this would reduce the chance of weight fluctuations, maybe not.
However, to those with constructive comments, many thanks.
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
