hmmmmm I sure was surprised when I got on the scale this morning. First it said I gained 2 lbs then I re weighed and it said I gained another lb. :0. It can't be my monthy cycle am done with them. Anyone else run across this problem. I did not over eat and the only thing different I ate was some soup. I don't think this is my true weight but it sure was a surprise. I wasn't going to but it down but what the heck that is what the scale said. I am trying not to let this bother me but it sure is odd. Well tommow it will be down 5lbs lol who knows.

i'm no expert but i can think of one or two things.

bad scale
added water weight from what you ate
Did you happen to move the scale? Everytime you move your scale it should be re adjusted to zero.
Did the soup have a high sodium content? Maybe it caused you to retain fluids? Also maybe what you were wearing? Last, did you go to the bathroom yet? LOL
Wow thanks for the fast replies. My scale is digital and I wiegh in the same place everyday and it calabrates itself (supossitly). I am thinking it must of been the soup. Oh my I just checked the sodium level in it 940mg!!! YIKES! Ok no what I won't do again.

i only weigh myself once a week (sans clothes). i couldn't deal with the ups and downs of daily weight.

That 940mg was for 1 serving I would bet. Those cans of soup can be misleading if you don't watch it. I usually have the whole can, BUT, I watch what I eat so I don't go to far over 2400 mg for the day. If I do, oh well, it will just work it's way off in a day or so. I wouldn't be to worried about it. I would just keep on track with drinking lots of water.

A good way to do away with some of the 'quirks' of the scale, if you weigh every am, is to write it down every time then divide by the # of days for an average. You can see how it fluctuates but that you are losinc weight.
OK - there are 3500 calories to a pound. There could not have been that many calories in your soup. So, rest assured you did not put on this amount of weight.

Best guess is you might need a new scale. But, do you drink enough water? I "put on" weight when I don't drink enough water because my body holds on to it. It flushes out when I get rehydrated.
the fluctuations in the scale can be :

too high sodium content
inadequate fluid intake( you retain if you don't drink enuf)
monthly time( don't even go near those scales!)

Your wt gain could be a combination of few things over several days
that's why I don't weigh daily.

Try homemade soups, you control the salt that way.

Hi thank you all so much for your input. I am not letting this so called gain get me down. I did start on some antiboiotic so it may be just a combination. I read somewhere here that wieghing every day is better. I do it so I see the trend and don't get to upset if it goes up. Also doing it everyday is not something have done before so trying to break old habits of holding my breath on the day I weigh has help me only focus on learning to eat better.

My scale just gave me a lovely 2 lbs overnight, but mine is because it's that time of the month. I'm just grateful it wasn't more. Ugh, I feel as bloated as a beached whale about now. Anyone recommend anything to get rid of the bloated feeling?
I do that all the time.! I weigh two pounds or even four pounds more overnight then after a day or two it goes down , then up again, then finally after about a week it will taper off, i stayed at one weight for 3 weeks.! I got so discouraged when the scale did not move! My doctor said this is normal. But if you do track it on a small calendar you will see over time that you are steadily losing the weight. Great Question!
I woke up to a gain of six pounds come Monday morning. I was devastated. I did "cheat" a little but not enough for a six pound weight gain...I am thinking that it might have been my sodium intake because I am almost back to where I was in just a couple of days. I use to let the scale get me down but I am not going to do that any more. I am glad to hear I am not the only one that goes through this.
Hi, I weigh in the nude. I don't weigh myself dress. I want to get a true number. I weigh daily. I can't weigh once a week. Reason why. If i gain a pound It will wake me up and say. Girl, you have to get on the ball what did you eat yesterday.. ( Watch It!)

Another thing that i have learn is.. If you don't get rid of waste every day. That waste can build up and become an added pound on your body. So, I flush my system once or twice a week.. Mostly on my off days.. But only Once or Twice a week..

Water weight is a bad thing. You have to give yourself time we wake up in the morning before you hit the scales. Don't eat or drink water until you weigh yourself. That is what i do now.

Here is a picture of my weight chart, you're not alone. I weigh myself everyday, you can see how much it goes up and down. You can probably tell when I'm in a good mode and when I'm feeling down :) Today is a good day.

Hmmm...I'm kind of new to this sodium thing since I've never really bothered to keep track of it before. I'm curious - would drinking green tea be a way to counteract all the water we retain when we eat too much sodium? I know green tea is a diuretic. Thoughts?

Kevin my chart looks something like that too but with a few more even lines where there was no weight lose.
Feeling a little sad that the wieght has not gone yet. But I do wonder if it is the antibiobotic [sp] I notice when it start wearing off I don't feel so incoherent or tired but after I take it whew I an almost to tired to move. This is my last day on it so am hoping, even if it isn't the med. I can only do what I have been doing and know it is the right thing for me.

yeh i think it would be water weight.
i am only allowed to weigh myself once a week, because i compulsivly weigh myself.
and i dont own a scale because my mother threw it out.
I also weight once a week in the same clothes so I can moniter how Im doing. I dont really worry about my exact weight or how much I weigh. As long as I keep losing most weeks Im happy. I use a scale at the mall that prints your weight and the slips encourage me so much. When I get down coz Ive maintained of even gained I look back to where I was and see how far Ive come.
