I have gained 4 more pounds! Please I need advice!

Quote  |  Reply

I thought I was supposed to eat 1550 each day(I weigh 216,5 foot 3 inches tall,52 years old and female) I rechecked because I have stopped losing any weight. My BMI is 38.3 which is very over weight. Calorie Target is 1200(on sedentary is what I started at),Burn Meter 1900. What I'm asking is do I subtract from the burn meter calories 1900-500=1400? Or do I subtract from the 1200? If I do that I'll only have 700 calories and it will starve my body. I am confused about this as well as are a few others I see. I have been eating 1550 and haven't lost anything since Jan.7th. I have gained  4 pounds all together went from 214 back up to 218 as of this morning. I don't have the monthly visitor anymore so I know its not that. I just want to cry. I have been trying so hard. What can anyone tell me that has has this problem(or not had the problem)

I think this is the wrong forum for this thread, but..

If the calculator says you burn approx 1900 calories a day, you should aim for a 500 calorie defecit. So yes, 1400 is about what you should be eating. I know it's frustrating not seeing any results, have you been eating any foods with floating calories (or at least that's what I call them, haha, foods from bakeries with no calorie information, things like that) or anything like that? Do you exercise at all, also?

It could be a fluctuation of water retention. Its normal, don't worry. It happens to me a lot, and for me it even goes as far as 7 pounds! Yikes.

Don't cry!

Sorry, double post.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I appreciate it so much. I'm sorry I posted on the wrong forum I figured since it had to do with calories that I had posted my question in the right one. I'll do the 1400 and see what happens,I'm not giving up just yet.!WinkI feel better now knowing what to do about it.

It's the right forum. Where else would you post a question about weight loss?!Smile

Mafabo please do not give up. The information about your deficit is correct. You may need to adjust your workouts so that your deficit is lower or higher depending on what you are doing. I am having the same problem, and have before. However, I am commited to continue to track everything that I eat. It is important that we are honest with ourselves about what we are eating. I am 5 foot 7, and weight 253 lbs as of this morning, however I go to the gym 4-5 days a week. It is frustrating because I am literally an athletic fat person. However when I really sit down and analyze things, I do need more veggies, and I need to stop eating at night. I also have sugar with my tea, and I need to cut that down.

Just sit down, and be honest with yourself and make small changes. You will get there, but don't give up. From my experience I usually start to see results after I give up, and then I have to start all over. Your body has to adjust and it is going to take longer than a couple of weeks. Try to set a goal such as how you will feel in 2 months rather than worrying about fluctuations in the scale.

Thanks kelilah21! I'm not giving up,but it does sux sometimes doesn't it. This morning much to my surprise I'm back down to 215 after around a week of no lose. You know I am too(athletic fat person)I can out walk most my friends and my husband and not be tired? Go figure. Thanks All for the adviceLaughing

i would not worry about, its just water weight, weigh yourself once a month to avoid discouragment, trust me your are losing weight, don't

Don't worry so much about the day to day scale results. Just you doing research and coming here shows you have the desire to lose weight, and that is all it takes. Eat smart, work out, and stay positive and you will get where you want to be. Just remember two things:

1) Its a Marathon, not a sprint. We gotta be in this for the long haul.

2) Nothing in life that is worth having ever comes easy.

keep up the good work, and good luck

Like sfdan says, don't worry about the day-to-day.  I'm going through the same thing right now too.  I hadn't seen the scale move in over a week and a half despite counting calories, exercising 3-5 times per week and drinking plenty of water.  This morning I was also down 2 pounds from my last weight - yay! - but because I was so discouraged by the lack of progress for 10 days I made a deal with myself that I would stop weighing every day.  Once a week is plenty to see if I am on the right track and make the necessary changes.

Don't give up - you can do this!

Thats why I love coming here several times a day. The support is awsome! I know I am going to make it by taking all the advice I get from caring people who are having the same problems I am!Wink
