Gaining Issues =[

Quote  |  Reply

Well..i am recovering from an ED and am an athlete.  I am currently 120lbs at 5'5 and the goal weight assigned to me is 125.  I have not gotten my period back yet. and was wondering if when i reach 125 my period will come back..or will it take a while.  If it doesn't come back will the doctors make me gain more..130..(noo).  Also is there anything i can do to get my period sooner....will eating more fats than my dietition gave me help..and will that have a harmful affect on my body...i don't think i can handle anymore stomach bulge..

also does the weight redistribute evenly..cause i have gained 15 pounds in one month and i feel like it all has gone to my stomach..i have a bulge.and the rest of my body is small.will this ever go awaayyyy

thanks..and help

Over-exercising will stop periods, as will undereating or a poor diet.  Unfortunately, I think that to get your periods back you're going to have to rein back on the athletics along with the other things your dietician is recommending.

How weight distributes itself is fairly arbitrary.  However, if you're consistent about your food intake, opt for plenty of fresh wholefoods and keep well-hydrated you should find that any bloating is minimised.
120 at 5 foot 5 sounds pretty dang healthy if you ask me.

if your an athelete your body fat percentage is bound to be low, just add some fats into your diet, and east a bit more ice cream. Should be fine.

you wont gain a gut if your very active, trust me, i though that bull@$@! too at one point, but now any over eating, whether its candy or meat, turns into muscle, i simply cant gain a gut anymore, i doubt you will too.

When the initial weight is gained back then it does go to the stomach area but will redistribute itself, i asked my nutritionist this question because i was freaking over it.  Just dont turn to exericising crazily to counteract the "bulge" you have.  I wouldnt focus on that.  Just know you are making your body more healthy and thats awesome you are almost there!!! keep it up!  As for the period, i heard you need your body to have a certain body fat percentage before it comes again.  I dont really know how long this take, im kinda wondering the same thing.

For a period you need to be at a healthy weight and that may mean an extra few pounds for your body. A healthy diet with adequate nutrients and fat. Not too much exercise. Many athletes may be at normal weight but their activity is so high they don't get it. Give it time too cause it may take time and if you don't get it back then you may want to talk to your doctor

my doctors are already involved.  i was in the hospital for a week at the begining of the summer because of the rapid weight loss and a prolonged qt (a heart thing). after that i became an out patient..and i am currently going back to the hospital every week to get weighed. the doctor plans on me reaching 125 in about two weeks..since i gain 1.5-2 pounds each week.then she said that at 125 she will give my body some time to get a period. then if i don't get it in 3 monthsishh..she will give me some medication that will test my healthy weight...idkk.

currently i am working out for 1 hour 6 days a week..and i can't participate in sports until i reach 125. before this whole weight loss my period was extremely irregular tooo..so do you think that will mean it will take longer too??

does anyone know any ways to speed up the process...cause doesn't it depend on body composition??..

Are you following the nutrition plan you are given? If so then just give it time. Your body is not only regaining weight but also repairing your organs and tissues. It has to trust you and that takes time. I know when I reached a healthy weight I expected to be better right then but it takes time. It sounds like you have made progress and hopefully you are following the guidelines. If so just give it time. I know it seems slow but look at the bad place you were in a few months ago.

i am following a nutrition plan assigned to me, which consists of 11 meats, 16 starch, 10 fruit, 6 vegi, 9 milk, and 9 fat..i use an exchange sheet..this is suppose to be about a 4,000 calorie diet.

i have a question now...becuase i follow the numbers given..and sometimes i go over and everythingg..but if it doesn't add up to 4,000 calories on this counter should i eat more....and what should i eat more of?? what group would be the most beneficial?...

and yeah.this has deff. been a long summer...im stuckkk with all of these limitations..which i feel will never go away. i'm nervous for this coming monday too because last week i didn't gain any weight since i went to nyc with some friends and i couldn't follow my normal routine.now if i dont gain like i was earlier they will take away exercise time..which would be extremely hard for me..and practiclaly impossibe..

weight distribution will come after long-term weight maintenance

because you are on acute weight gain, you will see abnormal weight distribution focusing on your midsection. dont fret about it, it WILL distribute

you may need to consider taking hormones, what was your weight pre-ED?

before the weight loss i was 125ishh..my highest weight was like 132 last summer though...that was before my swim season.  But before the weight loss i was about 125, which is where they want to get me back to. i deff. don't want to gain above 125 though. at 120-125 i have the most energy...and i feel i have the best sports performace.

thanks for the reassurance about the weight distribution...i just hate how my arms and legs and butt look the same as when i was 104..and my stomach is the only thinggg taking everything in.

also..if im taking in 4000 calories now, what do you think i will take to maintain...with 1 hour workout 6 days a week.......also one more question...what does your body fat percentage have to be to get your period..cause im getting that measured tuesday or wednesday this coming week by my dietition.

hello, look on the journal entries on my thread the one that said "links to refeeding" i believe number 1 or 2 should give you a overview that recovered anorectics need more calories to maintain their weight. also you may want to read up on "kitty's stories" on the journal entry aswell

here is another link from personal stories on how some mothers went about putting thier daughters on maintenance

my advice for you is to cut 250 calories each week till you reach maintenance.

as for your period, ask your doctor if you can take progesterone. if not go to a nearby health store and buy vitex and dong quai tea (both helped me get my period back as well as eating nuts and drinking tons of ginseng). take an omega complex supplement and add 2-3 servings of nuts to your mealplan for the fats and vitamin E.

you may also want to consider cutting back on exercise. when i first started gaining (the first week or so) i limited exercise to nill, to make sure i would regain a good body fat percentage to regain my period. i still keep exercise to a minimum but incorporate it once every day or two. 1 hour workouts 6 days a week sounds intense and may not be giving your body enough to recover its period.
