gaining .4 lbs a day.....HELP!!! EDITED:July 20th

Quote  |  Reply

I can't seem to stop yo-yoing between 177 and 179. So I decided since I can't keep my behind off the scale that I'd write down my weight everyday and average it after the week. I see alot of people on here do that. so on sunday I started writing it down and this is what I've noticed:

sun - 177.6      &nbs p;       & nbsp;      &nbs p;       & nbsp;      &nbs p;   Thurs: 179.4   +.4  AGAIN!!!!

Mon - 178.2  +.4               &nb sp;      EDIT:& nbsp;  Friday: 179.6   +.2

Tues - 178.6  +.4               &nb sp;               &nb sp;  Saturday: 179.6  (Avg for the week:178.8)

Wed - 179.0  +.4               &nb sp;               &nb sp;   Sunday:  179.8  +.2

Now what the heck is going on????  why the increase of .4/day????  Any suggestions?

I go to the gym and workout and I have a burn of around 300-350 3x/week. I eat around 1300-1350 cals/day. I'm 43, 5'6" and medium framed (by the wrist test). The burn meter says I burn 1800. I should be losing, right??? Yell

EDIT: Stopped the .4 increases, but now they are .2! I'm still gaining!!! GRRRR This is 7 days of GAINING!

That's normal, you're reading too much in to the numbers.

My weight fluctuates by as much as 5 pounds day in, day out.

It's EXTREMELY annoying, BUT it is normal. That's why I try to weigh-in once or twice a week tops.

Give it some time and you'll notice how you are, in fact, slowly working your way on down.

It's real annoying when 177 has been my lowest weight EVER! And I really want to see 176! I'll just scream if I get up tomorrow and get on that scale and see 179.4!!!!

Keep doing what you are doing and watch it for a few more weeks.  Then you can decide if you need to zig zag your calories , work out more, or eat more or less depending.  I weigh daily and my weight might creep up 3lbs or more in a week just to drop off all of a sudden during the next few weeks.

You have been doing a fantastic job so far so I think it'll balance off and you'll be back to losing in no time.

Do you wiegh-in consistently at the same time of day and under the same conditions? Try weighing-in first thing in the morning right out of bed.

docidol - can't afford expensive supplements. Anyways, I have to be careful what I take bc of my other meds. I do 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training 3x a week, at least.

mortalmonkey - love that name! Anywhoooo, I weigh in when I get up every morning after I use the bathroom. So it's the same way every morning.

I don't eat or drink anything after 7 - 7:30pm every night either. If I was going down by .4 a day, I wouldn't care. But going UP is NOT an option!!! GRRRR

I still think you'll be fine. Just give your body a few more days to readjust. It has only been a few days after all.

And also, I just realized that you're complaining over a fluction that amounts to less than 2 lbs lol. That's absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, I don't know how anyone, anywhere can possibly avoid such a fluctuation. That's just the way the body works. I'm telling you, I have to deal with a 5 pound fluctuation window, try dealing with that number.Wink

Check out this article

You may be looking at this as a normal fluctuation, but I fell off the wagon a couple weeks ago and gained a few pounds. So when I got back down to my lowest weight of 177.6, I was happy. And now I see I'm going up. So I just wanted to stop it before it got out of hand again. That's all. If I am doing something wrong, I want to correct it.

But maybe I'm doing ok and it will drop back down again. I'll see where it goes at the end of the week.

coach k - I saved that article. I think some of my "friends" on here would like to read that too. It did let me breathe alittle easier. Thank you.

Bottom line, you're not gaining fat.

Thank you! I needed to hear that! Smile

I am RIGHT THERE with you. I have to admit...I am happy to see there is someone in a "normal" weight range on here. I keep coming across posts of people who are complaining about being in the 120-130 range. I realize many have struggled to get to that weight but how many of them were up in the 200 range first?!?

I weigh myself the same as you do every single morning. Then often at night too...yes I am obessive. Too bad I am not as good at being obsessive about what I eat as I am at weighing myself.

You are doing a great job and you inspired me today. THANK YOU!

MICHELENELL - Inspired by me! I have been thru so many emotions trying to lose this weight. Now THIS! I've never had such a hard time losing weight in my life.

This is really weird. How can a person gain .4 a day? I don't get it. But I see 180 comin' tomorrow and I don't want to see it. I just don't know why this .4 gain per day! I've gained like 2 lbs in 5 days. How is that possible with the exercise I do and my "good" eating habits? I even stopped eating at night.

Could it possible be from the exercise.  Maybe building muscle do you feel toner.  I am just guessing because after I lost the bulk of my weight I stepped on the scale and had gained some weight but my clothes were still fitting the same and I thought I looked better.  Then I realized my calves were huge (muscle wise) and I attributed it to that.

lol, you're freaking out over nothing. Simmer down, it's not fat!

are you due to get your period? and plus, like said previously it can be muscle gain.  when most women get their period, their weight can go up 5 lbs.  by the end of the period, you will be right back to where you began.. maybe you need to increse the intesity of your workouts.  try a little jog or increase the speed of your walk in intervals while walking. or try a different cardio workout.

good luck! gaining weight is never fun... if you keep trying and nothing helps, it may be a good thing to see a doctor

.4# could be poo, water, or any number of things...

1) Make sure that you're drinking enough water.  Not tea, or diet soda.  WATER.  At your weight, you should be drinking 85 oz of water per day.  That's about 10 1/2 - 8 oz glasses.  That will help you flush any salt that might be causing water retention.

2) Make sure you're getting enough sleep.  My weight fluctuates a lot more when I haven't been sleeping properly.  Minimum is 7 hours of good uninterrupted sleep.

3) Make sure that you're really logging everything that goes in your mouth.  Licks, bites, nibbles, tastes, etc.  *all* count.

If you do all that and still can't explain why you're gaining, then try dropping your calorie intake or uppping your burn.

If you *still* can't explain it after that, SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

This is .4 EVERY DAY since Sunday. I drink way over 85 ozs of water. More like 120 ozs every day. I sleep like 10 hrs a day. I'll try to increase my burn and see if that helps with this.

I can't wait til this stops! It's really aggravating to see the number going UP everyday.Yell

It's fat. You've eaten way too much and all those excess calories are now storing as fat.

Seriously though, try restricting sodium intake today and do a long vigorous cardio workout. Maybe you can sweat out excess water weight...maybe.

I am having that same fluctuation (between 177 to 179). But seriously, it could be all the water you're drinking (retaining itself), it could be muscle that you've gained by exercising. It could be ANYTHING. After I eat, my weight goes up to 180.

I understand the frustration watching those numbers (especially for me watching the numbers over the years go from 105 to 182) twiddle back and forth. When I feel like breaking the scale, I mentally think about how much better I feel when I get off my butt and exercise, how much healthier and happier I feel. And that doesn't come from numbers. I am happy for you that you have taken the initiative and started to invest in healthier habits. Be happy for yourself too.

OMG mortalmonkey I am laughing.  Seriously you have a Great sense of humor.

momof2funykds you need to breath and take a step back because really you are doing awesome and you are probably stressing yourself out.

There are several ways in which stress can contribute to weight gain. One has to do with cortisol, a stress hormone. When we’re under stress, the fight or flight response is triggered in our bodies, leading to the release of various hormones.

Whether we're stressed because of constant, crazy demands at work or we're really in danger, our bodies respond like we're about to be harmed and need to fight for our lives (or run like heck). To answer this need, we experience a burst of energy, shifts in metabolism and blood flow, and other changes.

You are dwelling too hard on the .4 and your body is like HUH!!!

We think your beautiful, your efforts are Great and just keep going.

Have a Great day!!!!!!
