Is gaining typical at plateaus?
I usually eat 1300 calories a day ( I have a pretty sedentary lifestyle at the moment.) And the weight loss was consistent and at a healthy pace, never more than 2 pounds a week. It has slowed to about a pound a week.
But 2 weeks ago I gained some, not much just .8 ounces. But I had been eating around 1400 that week so I didn't pay much attention to that, but fastforward to this morning and I've gained an additional 1 pound 4 ounces. But this week I've made sure to do at least 30 minutes of cardio interval training a day with a tighter calorie intake of 1275.
It seems like I should up my calories, but then at 1400 why would I have gained? 1400 is well below my maintenance, not to mention my gaining point. At least I thought so anyway??
Please help!
must be water retention. make sure you drink enough water through the day and try to minimize the amount of sodium you take.
If you've changed/upped the intensity of your workouts, you are most likely retaining water as your muscles are being worked harder. Just give it a few days, drink plenty of water, and watch your sodium. Don't worry too much about it - your body will balance out on its own. Good luck!
I had a suspicion that's what it might have been. Anyway, thanks for the confirmations!
Also remember, that like it or not, the maintenance calories go down along with your weight. You need to recalculate your maintenance calories every 10 pounds or so.
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
