Sadkins: Hi. As you seem not to have looked, there's a sticky in this forum called The Aim is to Gain: Advice on Weight Gain, Whatever Your Reason. If you're female you should be eating a minimum of 2500 calories. If you're male, a minimum of 3000 - and that's if you do no exercise at all. A healthy maintainable rate of weight gain is a maximum of 2lbs a week so 120 by Christmas isn't plausible if you then want to maintain it. It's the second week of December, so you could reasonably get to about 110 by the end of the month. But not 120 by Christmas.
Hotsauce: Don't weigh in for two weeks after you increase, or you'll see a lot of water gain - as you have. It takes a while for that to settle down, flush out.
5'5"
LW: 101 lbs.
First GW: 108 lbs.
Last weigh-in: 105
Today's weigh-in: 105
I had a mini-relapse because of stress, but I am learning new ways to cope now! :) But no worries, even in the relapse my parents have a close enough eye on me that I was force-fed at least 2000 calories. What a blessing, seriously! If they didn't make me eat, recovery would sure take much longer. I think much more logically when I'm on 3000 calories a day, haha. Anyways, nothing bad happened and nothing good happened, so time to make this next week amazing. Moving on with life feels so good!
Thanks gibbit--very proud of you too!
And Okie, glad you're staying so positive, and moving forward regardless. When there's any hitch in the plans, it's time for Plan B. Or, as is more my style, it's time to wing it!
And Ellie, your words of wisdom never fail, and you've just made me feel better. I only increased two weeks ago to 4000, and I did notice my weight jumped up on the scale. The scale read 54 kg the other day, but then 53 again today. I can see I'm filling out, anyway. When my parents came to visit, Mum said she thought I looked better in the face--less drawn--and Dad agreed.
Keep it up, everyone! Just imagine the day when we've all reached heathy weights, and are living life to the full. We'll have to have a CC reunion!

Thanks gibbit!,
I suspected that would be the case as well. The day before I weighed in at 119.5 I actually weighed in at 123! But I had been drinking a lot of water and don't think I had visited the restroom yet either. I cut back on water and made sure my next weigh in was when I wasn't feeling bloated and had already been to the restroom. I don't know how much of the weight is genuine weight gain but I have noticed a definite difference in my shape and it's not sitting in my belly so I know I've gained something and I'm happy with that so far :) Be it a pound or whatever more, it's thanks to motivation, the tools on this website and inspiration from people like yourself :)
I am finding it hard to keep up with all the calories (sooo much eating...it's consuming me! hehe) In the past my usual eating habits were when I felt hungry, so there were days where I'd pig out and days where I'd pick at my plate which is probably why I wouldn't lose or gain, it just balanced out. Atm my intake is probably closer to a maintenance level and I find I really have to push it some days, but I never let my calorie intake go below the maintenance level. Still, I'm happy with what I see and have decided not to weigh in, I'll eyeball things and so my new Goal Weight is when I look in the mirror and say, "Yeah that will do, I'm happier with this weight". Thank you for the heads up and encouragement!
Christmas is coming everyone! Fun weight gain! Calories galore :)
:(
last week at the clinic I was weighed at 54.9.. this week I ate, felt terrible and had ED yell at me but I just thought "This is making me better".. well I lost a kilo and a half and got sent straight to get blood tests- which are my biggest phobia in the world.
This was yesterday.. and I'm still feeling pretty down about it. Because ED seems a lot stronger now.
I "weighed in" today and am up to 82 from 79 just a couple weeks ago. Here are my currents stats and goal... I've never posted them on this forum before, so I thought I'd put this up.
- Age - 13 years and 11 months
- Height - 5 foot, 1 inch
- Weight - 82.4 pounds
- Goal weight - 93-95 pounds
- Current calorie goal - 2,800, might be increasing soon.
Hi-I'm pretty new and haven't posted here yet.
Age: 17 yrs. 6 mo.
Height: 5"7'
Weight: about 92, i only weigh once a week-tommorow.
Goal Weight: I take it one step at a time, but about 110.
Low Weight: Not sure exactly, i didn't ever realize how sick i was until i started to recover-but approx. 80 lbs.
Current Meal Plan: 3000 cal, trying to get in good protein sources and vitamins-odly, i have vitamin deficiencies from not getting enough veggies (low cal, hard to get into my diet:))
52.5 kg again today--a plague on ED's houses! I haven't dropped my cals (actually, I've been eating over some days), so I assume half a kilo of my supposed 53 kg gained was water weight. Or maybe my weight's just see-sawing a bit?
Ah well, I'm having me some iced carrot cake tonight. Bound to help! Bon appetit, everyone!

Hey buddy :)
[I consider you my buddy because your story sounds similar to mine although i haven't successfully held 4000 cals in a while.]
For what it's worth, every time I have gotten super zealous and held 3500-4000+ calories I've gained really fast [3-5lbs in a couple days] and then leveled off. My THEORY is that my metabolism rebounds and gets excited. That's why now I'm determined to get myself back there and stay there for a while with a 4000 minimum. And honestly, back when I was IP I was even smaller and not allowed out of a wheelchair and still needed a 4500 cal meal plan. I'll be investing in some high calorie meal supplements to top off my meals instead of milk/juice if it comes to that!
Good luck! We're going to do this. Not another year of "I need to gain weight... Once I gain weight... " Time to go all the way!

Hi boppityboops,
Well, I've been on 4000 a couple of weeks now and gained half a kg (or 1 possibly depending on what the go is with these weight shifts), so I'd suggest giving 4000 a whirl if you're having trouble gaining. I'm not sure if I've posted this article before, or if others have, but it proves that gaining may take heaps of cals--anorectics become metabolically inefficient, as the author says.

And you're so right, that putting it off yet again is not an option. I've spent ten years of my life with a sleazebag called ED. It had better not dare to try crawling back again; I'm not playing the game this time.
Don't settle for ED when you can have so much more, people. And deserve to.

Hi Bec,
I'm no different from you; I'm just a little further along the path in recovery. Recovering from an ED takes incredible strength and courage, and everyone who makes the choice and takes steps to overcome an ED is inspiring and heroic. You are all amazing. Imagine what we'll be like after recovery. Do you think the world will be able to handle us? ;-)

As stated previously. By Mel and everyone else.
Dull the voice by eating. It is the worst advice a 'normie' can give you. But from one recoveree to another.... it works. IT ACTUALLY DOES WORK.
Irrational ED is a B**** and what do we do with them... that's right.. SLAP.. with.... Cake? Chocolate? A damn bowl of porridge with syrup.
We deserve the best, and dammit to hell if we aint gonna get it.
I have so much faith in everyone here. This is the real line. Professionals can learn the scripts word for word. They can take as much blood as possible(for a long time there i would have beenmistaken for a junkie. And by the looks iget... people still assume as much.......not a good way to spend christmas)
But you must want to recover. It must be YOU.
These are words taken from specific people on this forum. Everyone is here for one another.

Thanks Mel-
You're right again. I keep thinking I have to "work myself back up" to that level, but honestly, it's been another month in the 3000's with no real change.
Oh, okay, so I was up a pound this morning from earlier this week--but that was after dropping 1/2lb. So I could be satisfied with a "net gain" or I could say "am I really getting anywhere?" If I'm going to make a big change and hold it long term, it's going to take a big change in what I do! Not extra bits here and there when I can.
I have to admit, I've already made a lot of big changes--I eat absolutely no diet food whatsoever [even to treat myself after high calorie days] and have barely any fruit or veggies that I used to fill up on when I was scared of calories.
Now the mission is how high can I get my calories? How many of the denser-calories that I eat now can I get in? It's not enough to eat them, I'm goign to have to FILL UP on them!
Keep going yourself. I'm glad to hear you've been able to keep up 4000--that is something I have yet to do. But mostly I want BOTH of us to be chatting next year as healthy adults discovering life as we maintain a happy goal weight range--not just another round of struggling to gain within the same kilogram or two. Enough of that!
ive never posted on the weigh-in before but:
height: 5'7
HW: 155ish
LW: 101
weight when i came home on tuesday: 107
weight this morning: 111
i've been binging awfully so some of it may go away. we will see! i was going to not weigh myself (i haven't since tuesday) but since i know now, i might as well. so i think i will continue to update this! keep going everyone!
Hi boppityboops,
Well, I'm back up to 53 kg, but yes, if we're not getting anywhere with weight gain, it's time to increase the cals.
Also the longer we take to gain, the longer we take to get back to living life as it was meant to be lived--happily and healthily.
I still have my fruit and veg, but go for dried fruit and veg such as corn, peas, etc that are high cal options. Dairy products help enormously with getting in cals, plus that calcium definitely doesn't go amiss. And of course I'm enjoying eating those other high cal foods that ED was particularly against, such as fried foods, cakes, pastries, chocolate, ice cream etc.
Keep up the great work.

I was kind of bad..but good at the same time. I went a whole month without weighing myself, just trying to decrease the anxiety of upping my calories and lessening exercise. Apparently, it didn't do me much good.
Last weigh-in (November 14th) - Eighty-three pounds
Today(December 14th) - Eighty-three and a half pounds
I know in a month, half a pound is most likely a fluctuation. Especially since I'm due for my period this week (birth control). :sigh: And even if it's not because of that, it's too long with too little change. Up calories again, I go! If I'm going to get freaked by the scale going up, no matter the number, it might as well be something of significance.
hi-
i know for me, the real change was when i completely stopped excercising. thats when i started to gain and stopped w/the stupid fluctuations that dont even count and stopped wasting time.
REBEL-1 month no gain, id say you need to increase by about 500, good luck!
height: 5'7
yesterday: 111.4
this morning: 111.2
i dont know if its ED talking or what, but the problem is, although im technically underweight still, i dont feel unhealthy at ALL at this weight. ![]()
MELODEE-hi, this may sound harsh but-here is an honest kick, you ARE unhealthy, you ARE underweight+need to gain IF you want to be healthy.
good luck
