is gaining weight too fast bad
i'm getting over anorexia. and i'm gaining weight really fast i was in the hostpital for 6 days and i gained 6 lbs. so now i'm 88 lbs and i have to get back up to 101. i don't have any choice about what i eat or how much i eat. i eat what the doctors ordered my parents to feed me. which is a lot. like for breakfast i had two bowls of oatmeal with milk and fruit and toast with butter. and i have to eat stuff like chips and regular ice cream for snacks. and in addition to that i have to have a feeding tube up my nose at night. so i know i'm getting a lot of calories. and i feel bloated all the time. i feel like my stomach is bulging out. i'm afraid i'll gain all the weight straight to my stomach and people will think i'm pregnant or something. is that likely to happen or is it gonna be more evenly distributed?
Stick to what your doc advises. If he is going to such extreme measures, then I imagine you need it. Your feeling bloated is probably simply from eating more food that you used to, not from eating more than you should. That's normal, not something to worry about. Your doc wants to get you stronger and healthier, not make you fat! So try not to worry about it!
If doctors are ordering you to eat like that, then there's probably a damn good reason for it. Listen to them; you're not the first person they've treated for this.
At first the majority of it does go to your stomach. But as you continue to eat well and move onto maintance the weight starts to distribute and look well...normal. The "pregnant" look only lasts in the beginning. Promise!
Doctors know best. And gaining weight fast will be better for you than being unhealthily skinny, right?
Listen to the doc :)
the bloating is just the result of refeeding. it's totally temporary -- most of it is fluids and air, not body fat. as you regain your body mass, it will distribute itself evenly.
your doctors know what they're doing -- it's like they are giving you a prescription, it's just food, not a pill.
the only thing i dont agree with is the chips and ice cream for snacks. They are too high in bad stuff without any nutritional benefits. Swap the chips for nuts (same calories but you get good fats) and maybe have protein and banana smoothies sweetened with honey instead of high sat fat/sugar ice cream. Maybe have PB on your toast instead of margarine. Like I said, same cals - better for you. But two bowls of oatmeal is fine, as is the fruit, toast and milk. It's all good for you. You won't have to eat like this forever, just until you are out of the danger zone, then you can start eating more normal portions.
At first you will be very bloated, but give it 2-3 weeks for your body to catch on and this will subside. Good luck!
