gaining weight!

Quote  |  Reply

I have been doing cc.com for about a month now and I haven't been losing any weight, infact I'm freakin gaining it. I don't eat over what I should and I'm burning off about 2200 to 2500 a day. How am I still gaining weight? I don't know how I am going to keep going if it's not diong any good. So far I've gained 4 lbs. What am I doing wrong?

How many calories are you eating? If you're burning that many, you should eat at the very least 1500 calories a day. If you have more than 1000 calorie deficit, your body can interpret that as being starved. If it feels like it's being starved, it will store extra energy in the form of fat as a reserve source. So. It may be as simple as you need to eat more.

If you are eating enough, it might be that you're heavier because you're building muscle (muscle is much denser than fat and a pound of muscle takes up about a third as much room as a pound of fat). Have you been taking measurements with a measuring tape to see if you're losing inches?

I'd ditto bilaya.  Go by inches rather than pounds, especially if you've been working out.

I am eating anywhere between 1200-1600 calories a day I'm trying to shoot for 1700. I'm not doing any weight lifting right now except maybe  my 20lbs year old. I do alot of walking and playing with her

If you're reasonably active most days then you really do need to be on a steady 1700-1900 in order to lose weight.  (Did you say you were 250lbs?)   Try to space your food out well so that your body can burn energy nice and evenly.   Start with a good breakfast and then aim to have a small snack (like fruit) or a light meal every couple of hours.   Don't skip meals at all and try to avoid eating very little all day and having a very big meal in the evening.

Try as best you can to keep with healthy foods.  Base most of your diet around vegetables, meat, fish, beans, wholegrains.  Avoid salty foods like crisps, processed foods and ready-meals which can cause water-retention and drink plenty of water for the same reason.  A litre or two of fluids a day could help the scales show a loss.

And then make sure you measure your food accurately and log everything you eat.  The usual reason for weight-gain is that people are eating more than they think.

I'm over 250lbs. I eat oatmeal or cereal in the mornings. Lunch I usually have soup with a sandwich or salad with a sandwich, yogurt in the afternoon and a full course meal at night. I am trying to watch how much and trying to figure how much of this weights that or how many cups is this or that. I might be eathing more than I realize but as much as I struggle to get above 1000-1200 a little bit shouldn't hurt right?

Could very well be you actually kicked into starvation mode and need to feed the body!!  Be sure to use the tools on this site to make sure you are eating no less than 1000 cals under your burn a day.

are you still breast-feeding? That burns a lot of calories and if you're not eating enough, you could be stunting your weight loss.
