Gaining weight for no reason, trying to lose it!
Hey guys :) I'm new but I signed up because I've been having issues lately.
Here's a little bit about me:
I'm 15, 5'3.5, and right now i'm about 56 kg (123 lbs) and I used to be 50 kg (110 lbs) just 3 months ago. I haven't changed any of my eating habits, or my exercise habits and I don't know why I'm gaining weight! :|
I eat about 1200 cals a day, and I run for 30 minutes everyday at about 6.5 mph. So I'm fairly active. In the summer time I have soccer on top of that, and I had swimming in the fall.
My goal weight is actually 100 lbs, so does anyone have any brilliant tips on losing weight and suggestions on why I gained weight? And how much more/less i should exercise and how much more/less I should eat.
I didn't take any birthcontrol or anything of that sort.
Thanks :)
If I may be so bold, it sounds to be as though you are eating significantly less than you should even if you want to lose weight, which I'm not convinced that you should. According to the Burn Meter, you could be burning up to 2400 calories a day. For weight loss, you should try to keep your calorie deficit - that is the amount of calories you burn minus the amount of calories that you eat - at no more than 1000. That would mean that if you burn 2400 calories a day you should eat no less than 1400 calories -- but even that figure is probably too low for a woman of your age.
My advice would be to eat more (just choose healthy foods); it certainly won't cause you to gain weight and it might give your metabolism a boost if you are stuck in "starvation mode" (when your body gets too little nutrition and adapts by converting more food to fat).
I also would strongly recommend that you reconsider your goal weight, as 110 pounds is underweight for your age and height. Weight fluctuates a lot when you are a teenager (trust me!!), so there may not be an easy explanation for why you weigh a bit more now than you used to. Keep in mind, though, that an increase in your weight isn't necessarily a bad thing. I know that there is a lot of social pressure to be as skinny as you can be, but it simply isn't always healthy or realistic -- and your health should always come first!!! :)
your goal is unhealthy and you're a bit young so you're still growing. there are changes in your body that will naturally lead to weight gain...it's part of being a woman and preparing your body for reproduction...you need breasts and curves and besides it looks better than looking like a 10 year old boy. you should not restrict your calories or focus so much on the scale. you should definitely not be eating less than 1800 calories and you're in a healthy weight range so just focus on being healthy and strong not "skinny" =)
You're still growing and your body is changing, which could lead to a bit of weight gain. Don't undereat at this point, it could hurt your growth and your metabolism. And your goal weight is too low in any case.
Stop looking at the scale. If you're worried about your health try making sure you eat lots of nutritious food and get tons of calcium.
I know the mysterious gain might seem freaky, but it's normal! Is there any chance you're even getting taller too?
I don't know. :S I don't even eat that much and my mom keeps telling me to eat less because I'm quote "gaining too much weight"
So it's actually been stressing me out a lot. I don't binge eat when I'm stressed, but can you gain weight from being stressed alone?
yes stress alone can cause you to gain weight by causing your body to secrete cortisol and in turn store fat. you are at a healthy weight right now so i say focus on maintaining healthy habits and not weight loss...you're young and need the nutrients so restricting will only set you up for failure and health problems in the long run! please don't listen to your mom, not if she's making you feel bad about your appearance. you sound active and lively...don't turn that into something laborious and painful. enjoy your life =)
