Gaining too much weight at 6 weeks of pregnancy!!!HELP!!!
Hi all u mommies 2 b out there...
I need some advice/suggestion from any one...I am a 28 year old women. I stand 5' 6" and have been over weight since the last year (i was so busy at work that I had no time to exercise and all I eat was "to go" food from restaurants which not surprisingly caused me to gain around 40 lbs.) But I have now come down to 165 lbs with healthy eating and exercise (which is what I weighed before I conceived ) Now I am pregnant with my first baby and I am 6 weeks 6 days pregnant today. No morning sickness whatsoever. And I drink a lot of water (and I do mean a LOT!!! ) My problem is the weight I have been gaining. I weighed 165 right before conception and in the 3 - 4 week of pregnancy, I saw that I had jumped to 169 lbs eventhough I was eating the same food I used to before (healthy food with 1.5 miles of walking everyday) with the addition of some fruit and veggies...And even at 3 weeks, my lower and upper tummy looked different. I was still 169 till last week. I weighed myself this morning, and lo and behold...I have jumped to 174 lbs in a week...:( How is this possible? I am still eating the very same things I used to including fruit and veggies and I am watching my calories and I make sure that I do not exceed 1400 cals per day. I am not indulgin my sweet tooth or in or chips or anything like that. But I still gained so much weight. And my lower tummy has increased to quite a bulge. I am totally confused and scared as to what is happening. I thought people did not show till after the 10 week at that. And the weight gain in the first trimester shud only by 2 - 5 lbs. I am only half way though my first trimester and I have already gained 8 lbs. Has anyone experienced the same thing? If so, please reply and tell me ur take on it. Thanks a whole lot in advance. My first doctor's appointment is 2 weeks from now and I simply cannot wait till then. Also, this is definitely not hereditary since my mom gained the recommened weight at the correct times in her pregnancies even without any exercise and not watching what she eat. Also, I weigh myself first thing in the morning after going to the restroom inorder to see my weight without all that junk and fluids in me...:)
Your body is going thru so many changes, since this is your first the changes are foreign to your body too! All that extra blood volume and surely some extra water weight. Have you seen your doctor yet? I had a scale jump (this is my third) and it turns out my thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level was high and I had developed hypothyroidism, which I'm on meds for now. Don't worry right now... I would suggest getting to that first appointment and addressing any and all of your concerns (write them down, the pregnant brain can be all over the place!) and go from there!
One more thing, upon entering my 14th week of pregnancy, I was up 13 pounds! It's leveling off now though...
You need to be eating more than 1400 calories a day! ! !
You are growing a baby, it's very important that you eat more you body is probably freaking out thinking it's in starvation mode and trying to keep two lives going on not enough calories for one.
People gain at different times. I gained most of my weight during the first trimester because I felt too awful to exercise like I wanted. By the second, I felt better and got back to my routine. I gained about 8 just in the first trimester as well and approx 10 after that before week 26 or so. I stopped gaining about 10 weeks ago and that's just what my body did. I eat the same and exercise the same now as last trimester, but the baby is draining more from me than I have. I try to make all the meals and snacks nutritious and haven't counted calories. I know what is in the food I prepare and when portions are too big or too small. I eat my regular balanced meals in smaller portions with tons of veggies and protien and snack on healthy foods in between, like fresh fruits and peanut butter or cheese slices. You definitely need more than 1400 calories. That's less than your pre-baby maintanence calls for. Aim for around 2000 a day and allow some days to go over and it's okay if some are a little under. If you deprive yourself too much, you can cause serious defects in your growing baby and you will suffer with bad health and fat stores. Eat smart, exercise more...
Also, drink plenty of water!!!! I can't stress that enough. Your body needs even more to prevent retention, swelling and irritable uterus.
People have already said this, but you need to eat more than 1400 calories!!! If you do not, your baby may not be getting enough nutrients and may be be born with serious problems and you will never forgive yourself for that!!! Forget about weight loss or maintenance for now and eat about 2000 a day (but no more than 2300) for the duration of your pregnancy to ensure that everything goes well. And as a mother who has given birth before, I am going to stress the value of moderate exercise throughout your pregnancy, right up until the very end, to ensure an easy and quick delivery. Good luck, and don't stress!
