Gaining weight but working out
I concerned because instead of dropping weight like the normal after working out I end up gaining weight. Im probably just overacting but its a bummer! what could I be from if I eat around the calories suggested and I work out gurrr!!! help
I am experiencing the same thing! I work out EVERY DAY!!! Weight training and cardio. After 6 weeks of the I GAINED 2 lbs! How can this be? Very frustrating!!!!
P.S. I assure you that I eat right.
Could it be that you're simply building up muscle and that's replacing your fat? That can cause increases in your weight. If your clothes fit the same but the number is going up, that's probably the case. :)
Actually my clothes are starting to be too big. I know that is a good thing, and I know that I should be happy (went from a 26/28 to an 18/20), but WHY is that scale not moving??? I am so brain-washed to think that the scale is all that matters. I know that people always say that muscle weighs more than fat, but I would think that it has to start tipping the scale at some point right? PLUS, a pound of fat weights the same as a pound of muscle! :) haha
Thanks for responding :)
Oh God. I feel the same way. I'm eating around 1500 calories on average for about three weeks (according to CC I'm always eating A-/B+) so I know I'm eating well too. I go to the gym everyday (high moderate activity) and sometimes twice a day(!) and I haven't dropped not even one *bleeping* pound.
Do I feel better? Wholeheartedly.
Do I look better? I guess so.
But I want the damn lbs to drop! It's depressing.

No, it's probably not. Have you any idea how hard it is for a woman to gain 2lbs of muscle? A man would be doing backflips to gain 5lbs of muscle in 6 weeks while doing nothing but TRYING to build muscle
If you're new to weight training, you will gain some extra water weight while your body adjusts. I see you're at the 6 week mark, you should see that go away really soon
Hi Spirochete,
Why do you have extra water weight in the beginning?
Thanks.
Nothing would make me happier!!! Thanks for the encouragement!

Weight training is hard on the muscles, as it's supposed to be. Someone else surely knows the science more than I do, but it's something to do with your muscles retaining more water at first as they get used to the strain
Kelsey, it's "simple." You have to further cut your daily calories. Try 1300/day. The ONLY way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Since you seem to be working out to your maximum, but are not losing weight on 1550 cals/day, you need to go lower. OR burn another 200 calories/day. -Al
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
