I've been getting sick (like bad pains) after eating lots of carbs, and I was talking to a friend who asked me to go on a gluten free diet to see if that's what was causing my pain.

After a few replies in here, and after looking at Gallbladder disease, I was blown away to find my symptoms nearly identical. However, I don't have a lot of fat in my diet.

The pain I am experiencing is:
1. Stomach cramps (like sever)
2. Heart pain (a dull pressured ache)
3. Bloated stomach (hard to the touch)
4. Mid-upper back ache. Even my sides and neck get tense.
5. Fast heart beat, the shakes, nausea, and dizzyness.
6. TMI: Gas that smells chemicals and rotten eggs like and its very "thick". So embarrassing.
7. Cold sweats

I lay there and toss and turn and drink pepto like there's no tomorrow. I'm not sure if the pepto does anything for me, but the attacks last from 15-40 minutes on average. Most of the pressure is right under my rib cage, but it expands all down my body and up my chest and all the way through my middle and upper back. It's an AWFUL pain..

I suspect its the gallbladder more than being a gluten allergy. As I mentioned I've been eating a lot more carbs, so fat in my diet is maybe at 10% of my daily calories. Bad,  bad me!

Has anyone else experienced this? Again I still need to go to the doctor to get checked out.

Look for flour or wheat in the ingredients.
White rice has gluten as well.
Google gluten and you will get a list of foods.
I am good with some whole wheat flours.  Watch out though, some whole wheat is just white flour with molasses added.

Sugar can give you heart burn as well.

Where in your stomach are your pains? Upper right quadrant? Does the onset occur about 30 minutes after eating? Your symptoms could also be gallbladder - or gallstone related. Not uncommon in women - higher risk factors in women who are middle age, over weight - or have lost a large amount of weight quickly - (not saying anyone is overweight - just listing risk factors - smiling) There are other signs and symptoms too - just listed the major

Actually, just read the bottom of your post - sorry - this sounds much more like a gallbladder issue...

Hi I was just quite recently diagnosed with Celiac and it does sound quite similar to what I experienced actually. Unfortunately, must ask though if you experience diarrhea symptoms because that is a definate symptom of a gluten allergy? I never experienced the intense pains and cramps, but I know most people actually do. I get achy but I never got the shooting pains that I have heard of some Celiacs experiencing.

My mother believes she has it too even though the blood work said she doesn't so she is actually on a gluten free diet right now as well. But I must tell you that, even though you don't have health insurance, but if you ever officially want a diagnosis, you have to have been eating gluten for six months. So if you eliminate it now and later want a diagnosis, six months! I could never..

If you want more information on what to look for and any advice or whatnot, definately let me know. I've become quite the expert I believe :) Hope it works out well for you!

I was talking to my mom and she said the same thing about the gallbladder. I need to look into that. The pain isnt in a specific location, its like everywhere. It starts out feeling like you're getting gassy, and then as the day goes on,  it turns into an excruciating pain where you cant even walk as I described aboce. Just lay there and literally cry. The first time it happened I thought I was having a heart attack or something. I tell you it's horrible.

My mom also mentioned that the gallbladder stuff happens with high fat diets, and I by no means eat a lot of fat... I just wanna get this figured out because I never wanna go through that again.

The first time it happened was about 9 months ago, and it would happen maybe once a month. Then it started happening every few weeks, to every week, and it's happened 5 times this week.

And no, no diarrhea... for whoever asked that :)

It sounds more to me like you have acid reflux or IBS; my mother has this and often has the same symptoms. She was put on meds for it and she sort of just deals.

I have Celiac Disease and gluten is not just wheat: gluten is wheat, barley, rye and some can't digest oats (I can't). Gluten is also found in Modified Food Starch, unidentified starch, thickening agents etc. The blood tests that you can get done are often false negatives.
Talk to a Gastroenterologist and if he doesn't help you out, talk to an allergist.

TOTALLY sounds like a gallbladder issue. I was reading the symptoms and it's right on the money. I still need to go to the dr to see what's up with me. I'm looking around at clinics in my area and I'll go in today for some tests.

I don't eat a high fat diet by any means, but I may be eating not enough fat. And I was reading a gallbladder attack can be brought on by not eating enough fat because the bile in your system isn't triggered to release. Oh man.

Still I know this isn't official, but the symptoms are right on for gallbladder problems. Plus my grandma and aunt had it. *sigh*

Happy Friday?

Okay! Off to the doctor..
Forties, fair, fat, female and flatulent are the "5-F's" for gallbladder disease. Despite the low-fat diet, it could be the weight loss itself that is causing it.

I'd get yourself in to see a doctor asap. Because there are other things that could be causing your symptoms too. Gallbladder is probably most likely (esp since you had similar attacks 9 months ago and a family history), but it's better not to take chances here: rule out your heart, acid reflux, appendix, even ectopic pregnancy.

I had similar symptoms and the doctor thought it was my gallbladder, but it wasn't. My "attack" lasted for nearly a full day, starting at night and into the next evening. I had severe pain in the middle of my back (enough to wake me up), originating under right shoulder blade, and raidiating around the right rib cage. No stomach cramps, no bloating, no gas. Yes, cold sweats - because I was in terrible pain!

Still not sure what caused that. Gallbladder was ruled out, as was my heart. Best guess is either "a GI problem" or chostochondritis. If it happens again, I'm to call the doctor immediately, or go to the ER if it's a weekend. So they can do an ultrasound and see what's going on.

P.s., it's pretty easy to figure out if it's the gallbladder. They'll give you an ultrasound, and if you have stones they'll show up easily.
It does sound alot like the symptoms I had when I had to have my gallbladder out.  The stomach pains were so severe I would curl up in a ball and just scream it hurt so bad.  I also had alot of vomiting but my doc said that is not as common as the other symptoms.  Definately get checked out and let us know what the doc says.
I went to the Dr and he told me to go to the emergency room. Said they'll do blood tests and an ultra sound. I dont want to. Dang it! What a way to start the weekend. He's like "dont eat anything in case they prep you for surgery today" I'm so scared.

If you click on About.com Health at the top of the page, you can use the search engine to find information that's been checked by the About.com medical team.  I found this in just a few seconds, and there was lots more!

Gallbladder Disease Symptoms

Get off the computer and get to the emergency room NOW. Please don't drive yourself. Have someone else drive you, or take a taxi.

Gall stones generally work themselves out on their own, but sometimes they get stuck and cause complications. Or, it may not be your gallbladder and it could be something else.

You'll be fine! But listen to the doctor, and get to the ER asap. I'll be checking here for updates!
Went to the ER and they poked me with needles, drew blood, urine sample, and an ultra sound (gosh that took more hours than it should have) and they told me that I have biliary colic. Basically I have sludge in my gallbladder. He said it's something I can live with, but it wont be pleasant. I'll need to get my gallbladder removed eventually, but he said I need a primary care physician before they can preform surgery. Exhausting day for a diagnoses. But there you have it folks. I have to call a doctor on Monday to set up an appointment for him to give me the okay. I'm really not sure how this all works or why they didn't just remove it now, but he said I had to have a care physician prior to removal.
My dad had the sludge. He lived with it for decades. Finally had his gallbladder removed and he said it was the best thing he ever did!

They probably didn't just remove it now, because of health insurance regulations. It wasn't a life-threatening emergency (no stone blocking anything or threatening to rupture something). So you can get in line and wait for the surgery. Sigh.

I'm sorry you're going through this - I know for my dad it was quite painful and he suffered needlessly for years! Hopefully you'll only have to suffer a little while longer.

Yea currently I do not have health insurance. They didn't remove it, because an ER doctor can not properly diagnose. SO even though they found it, it's not considered diagnosed... Because it wasn't a primary care physician that did the diagnosis. Ah all so confusing.

So I'm going to get me some insurance, get re-evaluated (ah i hate needles!) and then have the insurance cover it. And they best cover the surgery. Because I NEVER, and I mean NEVER want to go through another attack like that. It's crazy horrible. I now live with an ache in my side at all times. I can feel how sore my gallbladder is as we speak.

Here's an article I found about WHY I got gallbladder problems. It was due to my diet. Plain and simple. I brought them on myself. What an expensive diet I just put myself through. ER bills are going to be way expensive, and then buying insurance, the removal. It's crazy!

Sooo if you're obese and looking to lose a large amount of weight using a low calorie diet, I hope you read this article and ask your doctor for that supplement they mention. If not, at LEAST take asprin to help the gallbladder not get all stoney on you :)

Because this is no fun. No fun at all.
