Hi all
After over a year of struggle with my gallbladder it's finally happening. I'm having my gallbladder removed on Thursday. Wish me luck!
GREAT FOR YOU!!! Best of luck! You will feel SO MUCH better, trust me! It was hard to beleive how amazing I felt after mine was out...after the first week of healing around the stitched area, anyways.=P I healed pretty quickly and was able to go back to school within 36 hours...without the awful GI symptoms! I hope that everything goes just as well (if not better!) for you!
Did the special diet help a tad to make the waiting process easier?
It really did help. When I started the diet I was attack-free for over 3 months. And I could feel immediately when I ate something that my gallbladder didn't like. That diet was a lifesaver if ever there was one. Thank you so much for it.
Hurray for you! Those attacks never stopped for me, not until that stupid organ was GONE. You'll feel sooo much better soon. Just remember to continue eating low fat things the first few months after the surgery - fat causes, um, bathroom emergencies for a while!
Good luck! It'll be great, I was more than happy to let go of mine. I didn't have any of the side effects *cough cough* after mine was out either. Oh happy day.
I am so very happy to hear that! You will feel sooooo much better when it's over and you'll heal up really quickly! I had mine out 25 years ago so I didn't have the opportunity to have laproscopic surgery. The recovery time was much longer, but once I got past that, I never looked back! I have never missed my gall bladder either and never had any problems afterward. As fas as I know, all my gall bladder did was cause me horrible pain and I was glad to put it behine me. All the best!
What? you guys could all eat fat again right away? Lucky ducks! My body totaly freaked out when I attemped to eat anything fatty - not the superpains like before, but just did not have any idea how to digest fat for a little while. Of course, the first thing I cooked when I heard "no more dietary restrictions!" was lamb stew, which might not have been the best idea... it was the most delicious thing after months of a liquid diet, though!![]()
congrats for u!! i had mine out laparoscopic on July 30th and am sooo happy it's gone!! i haven't tested out too many fatty foods (cuz i'm dieting anyway) but what i've had a problem with is too much fiber. if i even eat one Fiber One bar, i get an upset stomach and have to use the bathroom soon. I'm only 21 so i recovered fairly quickly, i was out and about in under 3 days..
Honestly, once you heal, everything should be great! it was quite uncomfortable
after the surgery.. i couldn’t sleep comfortably, i had to find a special
position, and the gas they pumped in me left my right arm with pain... which
the Vicodin took care of.. anyway, good luck!!
Nope, I could eat fat again right away. I guess that's unfortunate for my big fat belly but I was relieved anyway. I was released from the hospital on Thanksgiving Day so I got to test out my system right away. It could have been seriously nasty.
i43reasonswhy143- I had the same experience with the arm pain! I wasn't in any pain really except in my right shoulder from the gas and that was horrible. Once that pain finally passed I was just sleepy from the medication for a few days.
Had mine out 6 yrs ago - emergency surgery. Never knew I had gallstones! Know you will feel so much better - best of luck on your recovery.
Congratulations! I promise you will never regret it! I had mine out 4 years ago and with the laproscopic surgery I was going again in 3 days. I was able to go right back to fatty foods after that with no problems. (I didn't know I could have a problem so I guess it's a good thing I didn't.) :) I am so happy I did it. I was having attacks at least 3 to 4 times a week by the end (I'd had them for 14 years and didn't know what they were. For some reason I never thought to say anything to my doctor....) The only bad thing about it was that I had a major reaction to the anesthesia and couldn't stop vomiting after I came out of surgery. They had to give me a shot and the injection site hurt longer than the surgery did! :)
