No Gallbladder vs having a gallbladder
Hi, I hope this isn't too weird to ask. I had my gallbladder out a few years ago and I have just recently been told that I should be on an enzyme suppliment to help with fat and sugar digestion and 'she' also said that could be why I've slowly been gaining more and more weight and having trouble taking it off. The way I'm thinking is that .... well... could be.... but I know that I do eat too much and I don't get enough exercise either. So I thought, hmmm... I'll start watching what I eat and learn to have proper portions and add a bit more exercise into my life as well as the suppliment. Can't hurt... I thought. Has anyone else had trouble with no gallbladder?
Norma
Hi, Norma.
I had my gallbladder out in May 2008. I started eating clean and exercising in January 2009. Since then, I've lost 118 lbs.
For me, it was all about moving my body and fueling it with good healthy food.
I haven't experienced any of the troubles that you were warned about.
Good luck to you.

Hi DBCanada,
Thanks for sharing your experience. It is always good to hear what other folks have experienced. It helps balance things out a bit :^)
p.s. I'm in Canada too :^)
Hi, I had my gall bladder out about 10 years ago and no one mentioned taking any kind of supplements. How it came about is I got pancreatitis (the doctors could never determine why) and with all the testing I did I was told that my gall bladder didn't work that well so they suggested getting it removed. I asked why would it be better to have no gall bladder versus one that was half working. My doctor told me that when the gall bladder is removed, the liver takes over the function. If the gall bladder is there even if it's not working well, the liver doesn't help out. I can't say that it has hurt my ability to lose weight. Actually, when I had my surgery, I was newly separated and lost a lot of weight (other than my ex, ha ha) but it was because I got really active and did Jazzercise all the time. I gained the weight back for a number of reasons (stopped exercising, emotional eating, depression) but I don't think it had anything to do with having my gall bladder removed. Hope that helps. :-)
I had my gall bladder removed after losincg about 70lbs. After recovering I went on to lose another 30+. My dr never said anything about supplements--other than the standard "take a daily vitamin".
I do find that I can't handle greasy foods like I could before. That could have more to do with age...
I would check check with your doctor before taking a special supplement.
Good Luck!
Theresa
