Gardenburger BBQ Ribs + other veg meat favs

Quote  |  Reply

Holy poop; has anyone tried these?!

They are EXACTLY like ribs!

They're SUPER good, especially with two slices of light wheat bread.

Oh man.  What other kinds of veg meat do you guys like?  I have the Morningstar Buffalo Chicken in the freezer, but I haven't tried it yet.

Morningstar farms foods are great. I didn't like the sausage links, they tasted like sausage but their substance/texture grossed me out. I do love their chik'n patties, chik'n tenders and nuggets. I also like their grilled burgers and sausage patties.

I can't find the buffalo chik'n... I'm jealous!  Are they expensive where you are? They're $4.99 for a pack of 4 chik'n patties for example. >.<;

I want to learn how to make these at home! :o

DEFINITELY try out the BOCA Chik'n Patties. OH MY GOD THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!  and you wont feel the guilt of eating a real chicken!  i swear by these and pretty much have one daily.  SO GOOD!

Trader Joe's soy nuggets are jsut like chicken nuggets...my kid loves them!

  • Amy's California veggie burgers
  • (Primal Strips) Vegan jerky
  • (LightLife) Smart bacon
  • (Organ) No egg

Vegetarian; I tried these when I was a vegetarian and thought they were yummy

  • Morningstar bacon strips
  • Boca veggie burgers
  • (Quorn) Chik*n patties

My hubby loves the gardenburger ribs! Trader Joe's makes a vegan (and gluten free!) chorizo sausage that is to die for. Soo delicious- I packed it for lunch the other day with corn, lettuce, red peppers and corn tortillas.

Does anyone know anything like this in Australia?  Also, is there alot of preservatives in them?

Ya know - I've really been trying to find vegan/vegetarian jerky!

What kinds of stores carry it?

For veg jerky, I recommend Soy Jerky. You can order from their website and their flavors are AMAZING. The original is good but my favorite was the peppered jerky. Hubby's favorite was teriyaki.

I've seen the primal strips in a bunch of different stores- even small corner stores have had it.

I don't eat soy faux meats anymore because I am trying to eat mostly whole foods.  I like the Southwest Sunshine burger.  They aren't super processed like other veg burgers.  The ingredients are:

Organic ground raw sun-flower seeds
Organic Brown Rice
Organic Bell Peppers
Organic Cilantro
Organic Garlic
Organic Jalepeno Peppers
Organic Ground Cumin Seeds
Organic Onion
Sea Salt

I also like making my own ribs and buffalo wings with homemade seitan.  Here is the recipe for the ribs http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2007/05/barbecue d-seitan-ribz.html.  I make the wings with the same seitan recipe by cutting it into small pieces, breading them and tossing them with equal parts of hot sauce and Earth Balance.

They may taste good but damn, those fake meats can have a lot of calories if you're not careful!

I love Qorn naked chik'n cutlets -- they are amazing!  I usually eat them with salsa, jalepenos and a little cheese.  They'd probably also be great parm-style.  Mmm.

And maybe I'm weird, but I actually love veggie hot dogs.

And Morningstar Farms tomato basil burgers....mmmm.

has anyone tried a vegetarian version of chorizo? i know i've seen it at whole foods before but have never ventured to try. i'm wanting to 'experiment' on the BF - any feedback would be great - thx!

I love veg hot dogs, too!  The texture IS different than a normal hot dog, but I don't really care.

I hate it when people get grossed out by fake meat.  I mean, how much more gross can it be than a hunk of flesh that used to be MOVING?!  ALL BY ITSELF!

Gimme Lean sausage is really great browned up...I like the Smart Dogs too...

Soyrizo is pretty good I suppose, but it looks like it's in links, but you actually squeeze out the contents, I've found it works more to flavor your dish rather than eat it. I've made it into a hash type thing and added it to a veggie kale soup for flavor, but it breaks up and doesn't stay solid.

Gardenburger crumbles are good, and also the Riblets and Buffalo Wings.

I LOVE Tofurky!

I also love Morningstar Pizza burgers and Boca Original burgers. Those are my top 3.

I have! I got mine at Trader Joe's and my hubby LOVES it. He's Filipino so he really knows his chorizo and we both think it's delicious. It is rather high in calories but a little bit goes a long way.

I was staring at the package of TJ's chorizo the other day, but with the calorie content, I couldn't bring myself to buy it!  However, I'm sure if I threw some of it in with tofu shirataki noodles and low-fat pasta sauce, it probably wouldn't be too bad.  I'll have to try it, since I used to love chorizo otherwise. :)

What other kinds of veg meat do you guys like?

Beans. Legumes. Quinoa. Hahah...

Well Amy's California burgers are good - I like that they don't try to imitate meat or include "isolated soy protein" and glutens and such. The main ingredients are mushrooms, walnuts, and bulgar, but they are amazingly good for a frozen product.

When I used to eat it, I thought Quorn tasted EXACTLY like chicken. I used to buy the Naked Cutlets and use them as a "transition" food for when I first became veg. I fooled all my friends too!

As far as "fake meats" go though, I'd rather make my own than buy a store-bought. A lot of them have funky ingredients and other non-vegan ingredients such as whey isolates and egg whites... which may or may not be from cage-free, range-free eggs.

So far the only fake meat I really, really like is the Mock Chicken salad from whole foods.  I usually try to stay away from processed foods, but when I bite into a vegan chicken salad wrap from whole foods, my eyes roll back like a shark in a feeding frenzy!  I'm not joking!

I've tried a variety of the veg burgers, and they're OK.  Nothing special.

I agree a lot with you guys - veg meats ARE really processed.  I still eat them, though.

But I love making my own veg meatloaf and patties!  I have a great recipe that my mom used to use for TVP meatloaf and another for lentil patties.  Both are super protein packed.

Seriously, it's a little scary how alike they are to real chicken!
