30 miles round trip?  I wish.  :-)  I drive 70 round trip.  It sucks.

Well, I'd be pissed that I'd have to cut down on trips to the gym.  I could live off going to the store once a week.  I'd be fine until school started next month...

Yes.  The $16 I would pay for the round trip (23 miles each way), is still way less than I pay for parking. ($21)

In all reality, I would just start taking the bus 5 days a week instead of 3.

I have already cut back on my driving quite a bit, such as instead of leaving for lunch, I bring my lunch to work every day.  Right now I only have to fill up every 2 weeks.  My commute to work is only 7 miles one way.  I guess if I really had to I could ride my bike, although it is very hot (90-100 degrees) and somewhat dangerous.  (Our city is NOT bike friendly - no bike lanes, etc. and people on bikes get struck and killed fairly frequently)

I think I would just suck it up and continue to drive to and from work, but cut out other unnecessary trips - such as instead of making a separate trip to the grocery store every Sunday, I would stop by there on the way home from work.

I wouldn't have to worry about not getting enough exercise, since I would be walking to work.

Well, you actually have it cheap compared to some other countries and yet you use cars that use the most fuel of all in the world.

It wouldn't directly affect me any at all. Bike for the win!

I wouldn't be thrilled, but my car gets 40mpg.  Even with my 40 mile round trip commute I would live.

My husband could start biking to work.  His office is all of 3 miles away from the house.

We would cut back on visiting the relatives on weekends.  Not such a bad thing, really.  lol

Fuzzys you sound like me. I do my shopping on sunday for my lunches mostly. I eat at work every day. I drive 15 miles one way. It would stink though.. less visits to go see mom

Yeah, it's $4.31 here in Chicago.  I only drive 4 miles round trip to work so it would be painful but would not break me.

I hate being reliant on my car and intend to implement a bike-to-work policy starting next Monday (I have to buy a bike first).  The gas station can keep its expensive smelly gasoline :)

My fiance already bikes 7 miles to and from the train station every day.  We are trying to avoid paying all that money for gas since we are trying to spend all our money on our June 2009 wedding!! :)

too all you people that can bike to work... you are SOOOOOO lucky~~~!!

I can get to work via bicycle, and whenever the weather cooperates I ride my bike when I can.  I've also got a Honda that gets good gas mileage, and my job is very close if I do need to drive.  I'm also getting hours up the wahzoo, have very little bills, so the high gas prices wouldn't completely kill me.

I'd survive. If I had to, I'd metro in to work, instead of driving. As of right now, driving is still less expensive.

I'd bike to work if I could ... but it's 35 miles each way.  And I'm 15 miles from a train station that could even GET me to work.  :-/

I would be able to function, but with a 70 mile round trip to work every day, it would mean cutting back on a few things.  And utilizing my carpool a lot more often.  Maybe invest in a hybrid.  I would also be very motivated to join advocacy groups in expanding our light rail system further south and/or expanding metro bus schedules/routes.

120 round trip... I would be SOOOO screwed.. But this job is over in a month then I have just 30 round trip... Still I want a car that runs on WATER MAN!!!

EDIT:  Water, man not water man..

Well, I'd have to quit my job. It wouldn't even be paying for its 50mile commute. I'd have to find something closer.

However, when I start college in the fall, gas prices are not gonna be very relevant to me. I'll FINALLY be able to walk/bike to places. I cannot wait.

I wouldn't be happy about it, but I would be okay.  I would cut my useless spending if I had to but I think I would be okay.  I put in about $80 per paycheck right now...(I get paid every 2 weeks and I fill up 1 time a week).  I wouldn't bike to work even if I could, I have a daughter that has to go to daycare in the morning.
I typically drive 100 miles roundtrip for work and I don't make that much money so $8 gas would force me to quit and get a new job that is closer to home.  In fact $4 gas already has me looking for a new position :-)
i'd be just fine, i take public transportation.
I would be fine - I drive about 6 miles to the Metra station and commute into my building for work... But, the Navigator stays parked most of the time - and I have even made DH swap my Civic for his Nav so that he isn't tempted to drive it all over the metropolitan Chicago area... He is a real estate broker so he must drive... sucks though.  His actual office is within walking distance of the house, and we have already discovered we can bike the 5 miles to church, so cutting back - yes...

Devistated?  Not yet...
