Gay/Lesbian??????? Are there any out there

Quote  |  Reply
Ok so I know that there are gay and lesbian people watching their weight.  We have a certain difficulty because the community is really split in two.  There are the overly buff ( I need to compensate for not being normal) and then there are the overweight (I compensate by eating my feelings of not belonging)

Let me know if you are out there.

Oh i am Canadian too if this helps

I'm straight but an active supporter of gay rights!  I know that doesn't help your problem, but I just wanted to say hi.  :)

One of my closest guy friends had serious weight issues until he came out, and then his whole life took a healthy turn.  He lost 60 lbs one summer and has kept his healthy lifestyle... It's awesome!  I think there was a sense of liberation there...

Welcome!
welcome!  i'm not gay either but i know there's got to be more out there watching their weight!  :)

sweatsocks- i agree with you.. i had a friend in college who was very overweight until he finally came out (to no one's suprise) and because we wern't suprised it was like it made him relax a lot!  and he became more comfortable with himself and when i saw him last (lost contact after college like so many relationships do) he looked awesome.  so i agree it must be a sense of liberation!  :)

anyway.. hope you find some one to talk to.. but remember.. we're here for you too. :)
Yeah Welcome too.  I'm not gay but enjoy a chat.  So welcome and hope you achieve your goals. Good Luck to you.
I'm not gay either but I'm here to support you as much as anyone else. :)

As far as being gay as being not normal, I'd have to disagree on that one. More and more scientific studies are showing that homosexuality is genetic. Personally I think it's healthier for you to be proud of who you are than to feel you have to compensate for being different.

I hope that one day you will find more support in your community. But until then, you'll get lots of support for your weight loss goals here. Best of luck to you.
Hi! not gay either, though I lean toward bi-curious (which my honey has no problem with)

My honey's older brother got married to his love in canada about 2 years ago because they couldn't marry here.  I was sad to miss it, because I didn't know them at the time, but they are the sweetest couple in the world : ).  And both are very health-minded.

Thanks for making a post : )

Oh i think i am completely normal.....that was a generalization that is made about our community and sometimes we internalize that......but don't worry about me.

I know i am overweight because I did not want to attract the wrong kind of attention to myself.  It was a protection mechanism.

thanks for the response
I am enertaining the idea that our community is split, as stated earlier, into two. We have all these stereotypes. For women you are either a fem or butch. And your outside apperence determines this stereotype...Have a good day

yes it does.  Although, I consider myself femme....but am extremely overweight.

When I see myself though......i see slim selvte sexy femme.  From my head down right now i am a box....and that is a body image i associate with butch.

Good now you got me thinking.....lol

Thanks for the post.  I appreaciate all the other comments....but it is nice to hear from someone in the community
we are all in the same community here- LOSING weight.  I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss.  we all have issues that make it difficult for us to lose weight.  We are all here to support one another.  We will be here for you if you need a friend to help you along the way with your weight loss.  Best of Luck! :)

I'm gay and am in Canada as well and also feel that our community is really split in two. Personally I'm butch and unfortunately I'm an overweight butch striving to be the fit butch. I think you are doing an amazing job and should keep up the good work loosing the weight. We are all in this together :)
Hi Tamara!

*WAVING IN THE AIR*  "I'm out here...I'm out here!!"
Straight girl here, but I used to live in the San Francisco Bay Area and most of my friends were gay (they still are- but we've lost touch).  Among that group, it seemed like the women were more prone to be heavy than the men.
Gay girl here!!  I have body issues..weight issues.  I hate it.
Queer as a two dollar bill. I'm a femme queer woman who dates all types -- but usually somewhere in the butch/transguy spectrum. The community is hard. Health v. being size positive, sex shame, body shame, all of it tied up in our bodies, lovers, and friends. Hmm.
Forgive me if I dont understand the lingo but this line right here>>>>>>I'm butch and unfortunately I'm an overweight butch striving to be the fit butch. I think you are doing an amazing

What exactly is a butch? is that a new word for homosexual? or just for women that are gay?

As you can see already im far from gay but curious why you call yourselves 'butch'?
I'm femme..who loves butch woman.  No lipsticks for me.  I like myself a nice, masculine woman who enjoys being a woman! :)

I am a lesbian and my partner is on this site as well.

Amazing that there is so much support here.  That rocks!

Anyway here is a little information on some of the lingo:

Butch loosely refers to women that have masculine tendencies--how they look, dress, what they prefer, their personalities etc.

Femme loosely refers to women that more feminine in the same areas.

Lipstick loosely refers to women that are feminine to a higher extreme.

Bull dyke or diesel dyke loosely refers to women that are butch to a higher extreme.  Those women that look and act like men.

There are many more typecasts, stereotypes, classifications- if you will, that fit somewhere in the middle like soft butch, androgynous, quasi-femme.  It goes one--but I think you get the basics.

I am no expert on the lingo --these are just my interpretations.

:)

Julie

I am 1000% lesbian!  My partner, Stacey, and I work out at the gym together but she is not much on the website thing.  We are from Texas.   I would love to connect with our community!

neither straight or gay here ;) sexually -> bisexual, emotionally -> straight

at least when the definition of gay/lesb is "having sex with same sex" then i'm totally bisexual :P

Not gay myself, but I have several gay friends of both sexes. It seems like my male gay friends have a lot more stress about appearances than my female friends. We nicknamed my guy friend manorexic (I'm sure there's plenty of people here who won't be amused, trust me) because he is OBSESSED with what he eats, going to the gym and playing sports. he embraces the title.

Of my three female friends, two are very active and are teeny tiny just because they have to play every sport known to man. My other friend is overweight but it doesn't seem to be an issue in her circles.
