Gay Marriage
Personally, I'm totally 100% for gay marriage. Love is love, and should not be blinded by gender, age, race, ect. I don't care what those nonsense manipulative religious books put into your head, but Love is Love no matter what. It's their choice, let them live the life they want. Accept people for who they are, and get over it!
How about you?
I'm totally for it!
That said, be ready for some arguments against it. People like to argue for arguments' sake sometimes... and hopefully, there won't be any gay-bashing.
I'm all for civil unions, and against gay marriage. I just want to add that, thinking the only people who would be against gay marriage would be religious zealots who want to convert everyone is a fallacy.
I'm not a crazy Christian. I'm not a republican. Conservative on some issues, and liberal with others. Sorry to burst some bubbles. Middle of the road right here! :)
You may not consider yourself a "crazy christian" ... but... the rest of the world does :-D (or a crazy jew, or crazy whatever-other-religion)
I'm jaded, I know--there are some happy couples out there.
crazineko--What is the difference between a civil union and a legal marriage in your opinion?
Homosexuals should not be denied Civil Marriage. That means the right to adopt, tax treatment as Married Filing Jointly, rights of survivorship, hospital visitation and every other benefit not mentioned here.
The government however has absolutely no place to tell the various religions whether or not they can marry someone in their church.
If a church wants to marry a gay couple, that's the church's business and nobody else's. The same is true for churches that do not want to marry gay couples.
I'm glad to know there are lots of rational people on CC! I agree with all but #7 and 11. It's sometimes embarrassing to live in a country where this is such a contentious issue... love is love, let it be.

My gay friends have some of the most stable, caring relationships that I've seen and I really feel for them that they don't get to have that legitimized by a legal contract. I'm not sure why the government even has the authority to determine which two people enter into a contractual arrangement (which, legally speaking, is what marriage is). Gay people can enter into other contracts, so why not this one?
I keep hearing this bizarre argument that gay marriage in some way threatens straight marriage...or the institution of marriage itself? Still can't make heads or tails of that one!
Love makes a family!
The government isnt trying to...the gay marriage issue has NOTHING to do with getting married in churches. The gay marriage issue is only about getting married under the law.
So, again, name a single argument against gay marriage that isnt religious based.
ALL FOR IT!
I'm from San Francisco and half my best friends are gay. I'm extremely grateful that I am from (and will be moving back to soon) the most open minded city in the US.
Why would anyone care what others do has always been an issue for me. People should be more concerned about their own marriages than others!
you insist on disregarding religious truth against gay marriage but youre not entitled to cherry pick which parts of the bible matter or dont. Until it becomes legal to eat shellfish, wear clothing of blended fibers, work on sundays or have contact with a woman during her period, you cant really arbitrarily pick to dismiss the homosexuality argument.
Anyway gays already can legally marry, just not to each other. They want special privilege to marry someone they specifically love. Marriage is a legally-binding contract, not some romantic lifelong union of two soul mates, so attacking the "guy/girl only" requirement is just argumentative.
Okay, Im kidding - denying gays to marry is discriminatory, dehumanizing and archaic. No argument.
I cant help it Trust – I listen to opponents and think, "You honestly think its okay to deny this couple marriage because they both have matching packages? Really. Cmon, really?!
Is it the sex thing, cause you youre not expected to watch it and it’d probably be less creepy to them if you werent so interested in it their sex life anyway.
Is it that “Then what will keep people from marrying animals” fear. Im not familiar with the lobby for man/dog love but agree those would be some ugly puppies.
Is it the threat to the institution of marriage because if it stopped being illegal would undermine your marriage, that’s a sign your spouse if having gay sex outside the marriage.
Is it the religion thing? There is this pesky little thing separating church and state that supposed to keep our beliefs from interfering with others personal freedoms.
It’s the matching package thing, isn’t it? Thought so.”
