Gay people are not goats.

Why do people compare gay marriage to weird stuff. Like for instance, "If gay people can get married then is it ok if I marry a goat?"

A GOAT?

My dad and I were talking about it the other night and he said that. He doesn't hate gay people he just believes marriage is between a man and a woman, and that is fine, that is his generation.

BUT A GOAT!

Ok there is a very very big differance between 2 men getting married and a man marrying a goat.

This is not the first time I have heard someone make that comparison. But what is it that makes people think that a goat is anything like a human?

Back when interracial marriages were illegal I'm sure much the same thing was said.  It took decades to overcome the prejudices and there are still biases today, but most people with a problem are dying off.

BTW, would a sheep be a more appropriate comparison if you're Irish/Scots?

I believe there is a passage in the bible that says a man should not sleep with another man or beast. So homosexual acts could be related to bestiality.

Under Mosaic Law, a person who was guilty of  committing bestiality suffered the same punishment as someone guilty of homosexual acts, that being death.

Even though a LOT of acts were considered punishable by death. No wonder they hated masturbation... just a waste of a good load that could be put to increasing a dwindling population because their Draconian laws put so many to death,

It could also be a slippery solpe fallacy where someone believes that if gay marriage is allowed, then the next thing that will happen is marriage with animals. 

Logically, it makes no sense, but maybe people have associated homosexuality with bestiality due to biblical passages.

haha, yeah, my dad was trying to explain to my 12 year old that if proposition 8 goes through it will keep people from being able to marry...say...a dolphin.

Sounds like a straw man argument to me.

All I can think about when people make that argument is just that, deep down, they really, REALLY want to sleep with a goat...

I mean, before it was 'if a black man and a white woman can get married, then I can marry a goat!' and now it's 'if two men can get married, then I can marry a goat!' My gosh, if they want to tap that goat so badly why don't they just MARRY it?

One could argue that while a man marrying a goat is far more extreme than a man marrying a man.  One could also argue that a male goat having sex with a female goat is far more "natural" than a man having sex with a man.

Perhaps the answer to your question is veiled in what one considers "natural".

 What about a female bonobo having sex with a female bonobo. Is that unnatural? Cause, you know, it's in their nature.

 What about driving in cars or flying in planes? What's "natural" about that?

"More natural" according to what authority? 

What comes 'natural' is diverse, dependant on the individual and those of like mind.

The behavior of consenting humans cannot be rationally compared to a human manipulating an animal incapable of consent for sexual gratification.

To continually excuse our elder generation for their lack of tolerance solely due to the bigotry of their upbringing is absurd.
