gazelle gliders

Quote  |  Reply
Hi Everyone,

Has anyone tried those "Gazelle Gliders" they sort of look like an elleptical but they mostly just swing back and forth ( I think? )

I am needing a lowimpact machine that doesnt cause me to bend my knee too much -- I injured it in a car accident years ago and it's worse now -- gives out if I walk too much and stairs are a problem.

also with those thoughts in mind -- any other ideas for exercise that doesnt put strain on knees -- can't do the swim thing cuz of probs with chlorine.

I know I need to exercise just having trouble finding something that works

I have the Gazelle freestyle crosstrainer, and I love it, it was worth every penny, it would be great for you if your looking for low impact, the dvd's that come with it are great, challenging, and I never get bored, they have beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert workouts, there are lots of different exercises you can do, although it looks like your just swinging back and forth, there is sooo much more to it.  GET ONE!!!! :)
Well I have a gazelle and I'm not happy with it but maybe it's the model I have. It has the resistance piston so you only have one level of resistance. The piston was too much for me at first but now the resistance is not enough.

It squeaks and the electronic lcd piece spins around the middle axle. We have tried loosening and tightening and greasing.. and it still squeaks.

I dunno... I would suggest a stationary bike or an eliptical. They are no impact also. But you say your knee can't take bending.

How about pilates?  Most of it is done laying down on the floor. So your knee wouldn't bear the weight of your body  while exercising.

Good luck.

I have a gazelle glider and it is easy on the joints.
I don't have one, but I saw one at a yard sale once and tried it.  It was kinda hard to get on and off of, and I didn't feel very challenged by the motion of the machine.  My knees didn't really have to move, though, so it should be good for you if knees are your concern.  Just be careful you don't fall getting on and off.
I would suggest being very selective about which model you get. If you can, purchase one from a store where you can try it out as opposed to buying it off the infomercial. I used to work at a sporting goods store and we had a high return rate on those because a lot of customers were dissatisfied with the product. Many thought it was difficult to get on and off and the infomercial makes it look easier to use than it is. Also as naia_zifu said, the actual workout is not very challenging.
Mine is sitting in the basement, not being used.  You can have it if you pick it up.
if i knew where you live -- i would do that lol -- depending on how far away you are ?? lol

I have one and only used it once.  I decided today that I was serious about losing weight so I will be back on it tomorrow.  I am not sure how to log it on here tho.  I tried to put in gazelle but no luck....so if you do it and have the calorie info I would love to get it from you.  :)
I have one, also, and I tryed to sell it at garage sale, but it didn't sell. anyhow, I work two jobs, drive 5 days a week, during the school year 450 miles a week. I am tired. but since reading this-- I am going to use it right now! I do have knee pain, joint mostly and yes, it is easy on the knees, I have the gazelle set-up in a place where I can see the tv, so here I go-- good luck, if you want add me to your friends list and we can help each other I need to lose 25 pounds. good luck! =:)
I sold my gazelle and got an inexpensive elliptical at Kmart (weslo 610)  I like the elliptical better because it gives me better control over resistance. While the gazelle might be a bit easier on the knees I found that I soon out grew it. I don't believe there is a model that allows you to easily switch the resistance levels. I think if there were I would have kept the gazelle. However one of my complaints is that it was prone to squeaking no matter what we loosened greased etc.
Ok... I think I'm confused... This is what they have at the gym I go to (here) and I've been referring to it as an elliptical trainer, however from the sounds of your descriptions, it might be a gazelle glider?  (On the site I got the graphic from they have it listed under ellipticals.)  If so, then my cals burned has probably been off.  What is the cals burned per hour on the gazelle glider - or where can you find that out?  I don't remember seeing it listed in the CC activity log.
hi willowraven,

I looked at the picture and it is difficult to tell if its an elliptical or a glider. The pic looks like your arms ( and arms of machine) dont move back and forth like a glider. My guess is its an elliptical.

How do your feet move - do you swing back and forth - kind of like cross country skiing or do they move more like on a bike but instead of your feet going around in a circle its more like a slightly flattened out circle. ( does this make sense ??? lol)

If it's back and forth like cross country - its a glider - if your feet move circular ( flattened ) its an elliptical

I have no idea about the calories burned on a glider - sorry.

Hope this helps
I had a knock off version from kmart.. that i borrowed from a friend that is the best exercize equippment i have ever used i loved it. Its fun.. no motor. And so easy! I definitely recommend it!
Hi Healthy....

The arms/hands area are stationary, but the foot part(s) glide/swing back and forth - at first I thought the machine was a ski machine, but it's not.  It has the big front 'wheel', like an elliptical. In fact here's a pic of the one that they have at the gym.  If I remember right, they called it an ArcTrainer. (??)

I know.  Probably not helping.

The only pics of gazelle gliders I am able to find look NOTHING like the machine I use.
willow raven- the pics you posted are the gazelles. my mom has one. the pics from your gym is just another type of elliptical/cross trainer.
awesome - thank you.  So it is an elliptical.  That's what I was starting to think... I just found a site that sells them and they had them under the elliptical heading, so...

thanks again.
So - the one you have a pic of - the feet go back and forth not necessarily around in a circle? How much do you have to bend your knees on that one - my range of motion is really limited but I need to find something that works. If you don't have to bend your knees very much  I can check them out further?

It would be awesome to get something that works for me.

thanks take care,
