5'6 (225 pounds) Geek looking for motivation

Quote  |  Reply

Hi , my name is Johann and I'm an all-around-geek. Cool

I most likely spend the whole day sitting in front of my computer from 6:00 am to 3:00 doing web design, then I go to college and when I'm free at night I spend more time working in my freelance projects. Yes, I know this is very sedentary, but I love what I do!

I'm highly motivated on losing weight. I just need discipline, which I will try to gain by using this website as a weight loss logging tool and getting in touch with you guys.

Thanks!

'Discipline' is one word... 'organisation' is another word with fewer negative connotations, perhaps. Smile   If your day is quite predictable and neatly scheduled it's not actually a big deal to schedule a little exercise.  Even if all you do is take a half-hour walk around the block twice a day.... that's going to get your body burning fat a little quicker, speed up your digestion and make weight-loss easier.  Fresh air and relaxation is also good for your brain... so when you come back to your web design after your walks you'll probably find your work-rate and efficiency are improved.  Win-Win

And for the food side of things, the better organised and prepared you are, the less motivated and fired-up you need to be to make it happen.  Good luck!

Fellow geek here, although less technical computer stuff and more fandom computer stuff. And ditto on the school. I'm actually supposed to be writing my Master applications right now...

I found workout videos I can do at home helpful, because they help me deal with my mild social anxiety.

I'm a geek as well with the same problem.  I'm an animation major and after a semester of sitting at a desk and drawing literally hundreds of pictures,  I gained 20 pounds.  It sucks.

The one thing thats getting me back on track is WII FIT!!!  No joke, it is awesome and it motivates you and it all about getting points.

nothin gets a geek going like gaining experience points and leveling up.

*Raises hand* Geek.  I do math for a living.

I swear my ass gets bigger and yet flatter everyday I work at my office job.  Schedulling in workouts is a big factor for me.  Maybe try some fitness classes so you will have to go at a certain time.  You don't have to do girly stuff like aerobics, spin class is hard, burns TONS of calories and is a great unisex class to try out.  My husband and I both really like boxing classes too, great for stress as well!

I'm big on calculating all the calories that I will eat and burn before I eat and burn them, so planning out a menu and the activities for the day is, for me, a big help too.

Prettypopcandy - I have a Wii too, I'm set on getting to Pro in every sport in WiiSports.  I'm going to get a Wii fit soon too.

Hey there is nothing wrong with being a geek. I love Geeks!! intelligence is sexy(remember that)!!! One thing that you could do is every two hours of computer work do ten minutes of some type of cardio. Maybe invest in a jump rope, take a brisk walk/ jog or maybe even walk up and down the stairs. You should also set up a time to go to the gym (does your school have one for free?).

PS. Watch what you eat!!

Search for "Diet for Hackers" or something like that  - the pres of AutoCad - has a real good explanation of overall diet principles you might appreciate.
