Gelato is a double-edged sword. It has less milkfat and more flavor and a better texture that "American" ice cream, but it has 170 calories per 1/2 cup. I know Hagen-Dasz and Ben and Jerry's ice cream exceeds 200 calories/serving(1/2 c), but regular ice cream is usually 140-150.

now for the second edge. Gelato is so inexplicably rich that a small cup is filling and satisfying (especially if you eat it with the little tiny sppon they give you at gelaterias.) So it's actually the healthier option... or is it??

I have no idea but i LOVE the stuff, im glad there is not a place near me that sells it otherwise id end up eating it all the time!
whoa..170???? mines only 90, and its pure, not fat or sugar free..

LOVE IT though
I guess that since both of them are treats they aren't that great for you, but since you're a cal counter, the 170 sounds better. Not to mention, it's rich and may satisfy more :)
God no, I couldn't eat it every day or even every week. I'm keenly aware that a piece of cake and 2 bananas have the same number of calories-- but I know which one is better for me. It's too rich to eat often (but my friend who went to Italy for 2 weeks ate it every day. And what does she have to show for it?? Stick legs!!!! :-p)
