Did you know that you can rinse sauerkraut to remove some of the salt?  The only reason I don't eat lots is because I have to watch my sodium.  Same goes for pickles - love 'em, but limit my intake.
I was going to start a new topic, but saw this one. Please don't mind me invading your post, breiter, but I just made Roladen for the first time on Sunday! :)

(Roladen goes great with cabbage/sauerkraut... thus, in my brain, I'm justified in boasting in here ;)

Clairelaine, I agree, I was taught that the proper preparation of sauerkraut involves rinsing it first. However, I was also taught to add bacon...
Hi,

No worries Tantek! Rouladen are amazing, especially cos the beef is so thin but tender when it is rolled up.

Also try cooking kale and add oats to it. It sounds weirs but works and you get your vegetable and fibre in one!
When you say  add oats to it, do you mean whole oats or the rolled oats we Americans call oatmeal?  At what point in the cooking do you add the oats, or do you cook them separately, then combine?

I'm always interested in trying something new and healthy.
Dear Claire,

I mean whole oats that you would use for porridge. You chop the kale into slices and cook for about 20 minutes (with pepper - leave the salt if you can) then add the oats and cook a further 10 minutes. For a better flavour you can add some sausages at the start and cook all together, however don't eat them cos they contain a lot of fat (give them to someone who doesn't diet :)

Hoep you will enjoy!
I have whole oats, and I'm going to the market today.  I don't eat sausages or any cured, smoked meats, but I'm sure some caramelized onions would add flavor.
Oooh, that sounds good! I'll have to try that next time :)
Yep camalised onions are a good idea, however fry them with Fry Light and not butter and sugar, that destryos the whole purpose of it being healthy! Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

:)
You put sugar in caramelized onions?  I never knew that.  I just saute them very slowly in a small amount of olive oil until they are golden brown.  That brings out the sweetness and concentrates the flavor.
Ahh, I always thought caramel is butter and sugar!

B :)
