I have wanted to get a tattoo since I was 16 (many, many moons ago). I finally found a design that I love because it symbolizes my journey so far, reminds me to appreciate life, and look positively towards the future. I am getting it on the top of my right foot (because it's symbolizing a journey), and am wondering how long it will take to heal....aka...how long before I wear runners and get back into the gym??
I am booked for tomorrow morning at 11:00. I will post pics when it is done!

Depending on the size and the level of trauma to the skin, it should be completely healed in about 2-3 weeks, just as any scabbed injury. You won't want to submerse it in water for 2-3 days which gives the tattoo time to sufficiently scab over. Be careful of anything rubbing on the tattoo (socks, shoes, etc) as it can rub off the scab and damage the tattoo, and it can cause the tattoo to be raised once healed. Sweat will soften the scab as well.
Take good care of your tattoo, ask your artist for advice as they are the most knowledgeable about the process. Congratulations and remember to breathe! It also helps to focus on other things or have someone with you to aid in pain deferment.
i have one in the same spot also...i agree that it took about two to three weeks to heal...it's just about the cutest place to have a tatoo but let me warn you that it hurt like hell!! it can be really uncomfortable those first couple of weeks and flip flops are the way to go
Enjoy your tatoo!!!
weird. a girlfriend of mine got her foot done and it never even scabbed up. it was good to go the next day. perhaps she is just super tough. her temples were the same, though every other tattoo she has went through a week or more of healing.
but then, perhaps it is different as we had pointillism done.
how odd
Well, it's done and I love it!! I'll post some pics on my profile when I get home from work.
Thanks for the info!
