Hey Donna,
The actress was Jennifer O'Neill. The Rachmoninoff piece used as the theme for the movie is one my mom used to play when I was a toddler...my earliest memory of music!
Great Grandkids...wow, what a blessing!! Hope I get to see that day! But had to wait till my mid-fifties to get one grandson, the other three are Bernie's grandkids.
OA has helped me understand my "dis-ease" of food addiction. But I needed CC to get a real handle on food planning. Having you supportive folks to commune with is also a great benefit!
Oh, birthday is 12/25...thus the Kris-mass-elf! Mom always told me the whole world decorate just for my B'day...lol! Most Christmas babies feel cheated...not me! I always bragged "I got twice as many presents as you" to my brothers...LOL!
Just spent a wonderful day with my "girls" in Niagara Canada - winery tour, shopping lunch! Then back to Buffalo for great sushi dinner! Logged in as best I coould, and seems I stayed in my limit.
Now for a soak in the jacuzzi and off to bed!
In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?"
Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this."
He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill.
He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air.
Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.
"Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.
"My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.
"Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.
"We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.
"Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE.
"You are special- Don't EVER forget it."
Speaking of- I did write a history book about my home town. Had a blast if took my daughter and I months of research to get the imfo- We have at least a paragraph timeline for evey year from the year Iola was founded til the book was written. I wrote it for my son for a Christmas present- and word of mouth ended up making a bunch and selling. They have copies in the library and Historical Museum and beside that I've sold over 100 copies and making more this winter. Not a summer thing, I like to go to much. I had do each one off my puter, don't like the paper they use to make them- I use card stock they use regular.
I'm thinking about getting into the work market again this winter- don't need to set around and get fatter.
What did you retire from?
Lora- A bear bus- what's that? OK going to get out the map and see if your BIG city is listed.Gosh you guys are youngins. My birthday 1-3-41-- I was born when the dead sea just took ill. Never vacuum- it kills my dust bunnies. I have them named and that's a chore they multiply like--- ah--- bunnies.
My daughters birthday is 1-1- and she hated it. In grade school never had a school party as they were closed for vacation. Never believed in the school parties because the summer kids didn't get them and same with the holiday kids. Now where do I find how to put on pictures and can you put on before and after loss of weight?
Kris- Bet you had a great time -but sushi- don't think I could handle that-- never tried it but-- well I'd try anything. Love mountain oysters- wonder who the first person was that said- going to cut these off and eat them? Got to admit- must have taken a brave person.
time to get my day started- see you later.
In this life I'm a woman. In my next life, I'd
like to come back as a bear. When you're a bear-, you get to hibernate. You do nothing
but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.
Before you hibernate you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.
When you're a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.
If you're mama bear. everyone knows you mean business. You Swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.
If you're a bear your mate EXPECTS you to woke up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat,I could definitely deal with that.
Bday is Oct 9.
I 'retired' from the rat race of managing a software development group for a BIG corporation. My team (the only part I miss!) wrote and maintained the software to pay commissions to 6000+ sales reps. Had a few really stressful years with constantly changing higher management, bankruptcy, mergers, you name it, and just couldn't work up any enthusiasm for another year of the same. OK...I ran away...was very blessed that my hubby was willing to be the sole bread winner for a while, so I can decide what I want to be when I grow up. I still see 'my guys' all the time...they all want me to come back. NO WAY!
Interview yesterday went well. They called today and want me back for a second interview next week! WOO HOO!!!! Fingers crossed, prayers said, good thoughts on radar please! This company is putting in software tools for financial audits, IT governance, and system controls all over the world, so should be very interesting work! It's located downtown, but I can take the train and not have to park, so that's cool. No idea what it pays....guess I should find out, huh?
Cold and sore throat still dragging on, even with using Zicam for the last two days, so I'm going back to bed with 'kitty nurses' all around for comfort. :-)
LOL...I'm coming back as a dog...man's best friend! If I show loyalty to my master, he'll pet and care for me. If he doesn't, I have society's permission to bite his arse!!!
Not me I like being a bear! That was a good one kansasgal.
Oh the bear bus is the bus I drive. All our buses have "critters" on them so the "Little Duffers" can find the the right bus. We have bunnys and butterflys and fish and kangaroos and a whole lot of other critters.
anna sorry to hear about your cold. I had one a few weeks ago and was misrable. So you have my simpathy. I hope your second interview turns out good.
krismasself-I hope you get the right master! Lol!
Lora
Dogs- loyal, obediant, loving, protective, and will in a minute give up their lives to save us. Look how we depend on them- we trust them with leading our blind, guarding the policeman with their lives, protecting our children. We are definately the masters of them. When it comes to importance yew dog is number one- in my opion.
Now Lori- you may not be able to set on someones lap,you may have bad breath, harry legs, bad manners but I'll bet no one is going to mess with you. haha
Okey- I'll be back later it's exercise time. Doid you move your boodie today? If not- get up, pour a bottle of water and move. Maybe do a dance,a walk ,a take the dogs for a walk- or train a cat. Anyway let's do something before the snow blows. Have a happy and safe holiday. See you tomorrow- I hope.
Love the idea of the critter bus.
Hey kansasgal-I am still around this weekend if you need someone to talk to.
Your right if I am a "Bear" nobody is going to mess with me.![]()
Lora
The other day a young person asked me how I felt about
being old. I was taken back, for I do not think of myself as old.
Upon seeing my reaction, she was immediately embarrassed, but
I explained that it was an interesting question, and I would ponder it,
and let her know.Old Age, I decided, is a gift.
I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have
always wanted to be.
Oh, not my body! I sometime despair, over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt.
And often I am taken aback by that old person that lives in my
mirror (who looks like my mother!), but I don't agonize
over those things for long.
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly.
As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less
critical of myself.
I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra
cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying
that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant-garde on my patio.
I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon;
before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the
computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?
I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60&70's, and
if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love... I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if Ichoose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some
of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the
important things. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken.
How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when
a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by
a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding
and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile
and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed
to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to
have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so manyhave died before their hair could turn silver. As you get older,it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think.
I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be
wrong. So, to answer your question,
I like being old.
It has set me free. I like the person I have become.
I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not
waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will
be. And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it)
So no plans for the week-end? We are staying home dog setting and cleaning the garage. We really have an exciting life don't we? I've had my share of camping, mosquitoes, sun burn and all of that. Now it's the younger ones turn, not that we don't go but this week it was the grandkids and their friends. Don't think I want to try to keep up with the 20 group, they party to hard for me.
Well I've cooled off a bit guess I'll get back and finish the garage. Took everything out, swept and cleaned and now it's time to haul the stuff back. Now come the decisions-- keep or pitch. I hate cleaning with Marvin there- he keeps everything. We were walking down the street one time and he see a half of book- picked it up and I said throw that away, it's not even all there- he says-- "Well maybe the other half is right around the corner"
OK wish me luck- fight time coming up- I pitch-everything.

Now what?
Donna
I don't know on that one kansasgal I haven't had any trouble uploading pictures. Did you try it again?
I don't have any plans this weekend either. I love to camp but not on the really busy weekends. I am not fond of crowds. Of course my idea of camping is now in a Fifth wheel where I pull my house with me. lol! We do some tent camping with the Boy Scouts but not this summer.
My husband and sons are working on my son's pole barn this weekend and cutting wood for the wood stove. So I am here by myself.
Somebody sent me the getting old. I loved it too so I had to add it here. I thought everyone would enjoy it.

Now that I have bored you, you kids can go out and play.........Melvin
Hi Mel,
Gee, I love that area of PA. The ex has family there, we visited often and I fell in love with York!
Somewhere in Time is one of my favorite movies too! The music theme, Rachmoninoff, is a piece my mom used to play after putting me down for a nap...one of my earliest memories of music! I love all music, including classical, jazz, Christian, etc....
Staying/getting healthy has no age limit! My late granny was still doing ballet stretches at 90! And she always ate responsibly!
We're glad you're among us!
Lora I tried to upload again the picture but not sure what happened. No pictures came up. Are we gtting them from our pictures or do we open a galery here then get them? Oh well I'll keep playing.
Hey Mel- Kids !yew right. I'm nipping at your heels. I'm 66 and running a snip away fro 67- my sweetie is 72- so now you kid- eat your words. haha We will be married 50 in November- yep we were kids when we got married. People said it would never last and somedays I think they are right. haha
Hey Kris another "somewhere in time fan". We got a new DVR and I don't watch tv and Marvin says I'm not learning how to work it- I'm still trying to figure out the VCR and computer. haha Bet if it was the only way for him to watch the Chiefs football he word learn fast.
Guess I have pretty much filled out both the getting to know me- but now-- how about a "What brought me here".
OK- I was a couch potato and smoked almost 3 pkgs of cigarettes a day. Had a heart attack-- (no wonder-- right?) I was on 19 meds a day and some 2-3 times a day. I decided to get my act together and try to live a different life. I lost weight after joining a program- and it was great ,but what we got to eat was very limited. 55 pounds I lost but got so tired of the same thing. The only protein we could have was chicken, fish, turkey, fish-and egg whites. No dairy of any kind. Well needless to say I got burnt out and fell pretty much off plan- 25 pounds I gained back. So here I am looking for a new way to lose and get back my 25 pound loss. I now am on only 2 meds so I will never say the plan did not work-- I will say "I quit working the plan." So here I am.
Do you all do a menu for the week? Or how do you get your meals planned? Is there a menu planner here for 1500 calories that we can print off. Like it tell me what to eat and how much for each meal. I've looked but haven't found one yet.
So waht kind of exercise program are you all on?Daily, weekly, what kind? I love my exercise class- we do cardio and stretches, then go to the gym for tread mill and weights. Not heavy I don't need to have big muscles just trying to get rid of the flab. What yours?
OK hubby says time to eat, so I'll see you all later.
Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone, and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as a goose, we will join in formations with those who are headed where we want to go.
When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies at the point position.
Lesson: It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership ? with people, as with geese, interdependent with one other.
The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Lesson: We need to make sure our honking from behind is encouraging - not something less helpful.
When a goose gets sick or wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow their fellow member down to help provide protection. They stay with this member of the flock until he or she is either able to fly again or dies. Then they launch out on their own, with another formation, or catch up with their own flock.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as the geese, we will stand by each other like that.
A Lesson from the Geese appeared in the November 1988 edition of Nebraska Synod (ELCCA) Update, where it was credited to Milton Olson.
