I'm new here and would like a older group to chat with. Maybe we can go down the trail to Skinnyville together.

I have had a few health problems but I am in great shape and healthy now and want to get this weight.

Could use any and all help. Would anyone care to join me in my new adventure?

glad you're enjoying your scooter ... what i do when eating out is first pick what i would like to have then look for an alternative then make a choice (don't always make the right choice but at least think of it) it usually works... a lot of times i remind myself that we eat to live not live to eat....that works better for me

Hi All,

I'm back at work.  No kids till next Tuesday but lots of meetings and inservice.  I have not been on the scale in a few days.  I need to get back on track.  Maybe the routine of work and fewer days with company will help.  We have one last hoorah for Labor Day weekend.  My daughter is giving a recital on the 31st and family is coming back in.

Jenika - I like your idea about looking for an alternative.  I tend to feel deprived and try to plan what I will eat before I get to the restaurant.  It's really hard isn't it?  We just have to keep at it.

Donna - I'm with you, where is everyone?  Hopefully they will come back in the fall.  It helps to have the support of others.  Have fun and stay safe on your scooter!

Penny

Hi everyone, another stray returning to the fold and much needed support. I have had a quick read through the most recent posts to try and catch up with all the news and see that the numbers have dwindled somewhat. It must be nearly a month since I checked in and I have no excuses other than laziness - the same reason that I have gone up by 6.5 lbs. Am sadened and disappointed that I haven't yet got a handle on the " a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips" theory. But I'm back and what matters is the fact that I haven't given in - as has been my previous habit.

I have been on mainland UK for a week visiting the newest addition to the family - Charlie Richard - born on 22nd July. He is a fine boy and mum and baby are both fine - dad is coping quite well too ( much to my surprise - he's my youngest son so I can say that ).

Down to the finer things - the old habits ( bad evening eating and cravings )are creeping back so I'm hoping that being back here and talking about it will help me exorcise the demons. I have kept up the Curves gym attendance and the lunchtime walks and my daytime eating is generally good, but I now probably have to add something extra as my body seems to have adapted these regimes and yes - I do know - stop eating trash. So, like Penny, I need all your encouragement and suggestions to help me get back on track.

I think the inches are moving at last. Weight well not to sure about but I really like to go more by the way my clothes fir than what the scales shows. When my drawers fall to the floor I know I’ve done great, if I have to lay on the bed to sip my pants and they are so tight, I know I’ve been bad.

I really do like the “Your choice” thought. Alternative planning,  or picking. Great  idea.

I am sure that the gang will start coming back when the weathers starts to get worse.

I know it’s hard to get everything done that we seem to need to do in the summer.

Ok how about a week of “ no eating trash”? I think that sounds great. I am cleaning out my shelves and getting rid of a bunch of stuff that we don’t need. Hubby needs to lose about 15 pounds and I could use a 20 pound loss with no problem.

One thing we all agree on is we need the support of each other. Hope I can start getting in here once a day again very soon.

I am now doing all my daughters cleaning. She is going to school full time and working full time + she has no help from her hubby. Besides no help she has to help him with so much. She certainly has her hands full. We took him to a new pain control Dr and they are going to try some different meds on him. The morphine is as strong as he can safely take and it is getting where it doesn’t do him much good. She certainly needs the help and I can sure use the extra money. At first I kept saying no money but she insisted so be it—I’m taking it and going to enjoy the extra cash.

Guess it dinner time better get in there and see what I’ll have tonight. Need to get to the store tomorrow, I’m out of chicken breast. I fixed a spinach salad and was going to have the chicken. So now what? Maybe salmon patties?

Now heading to see the close up picture of the babies. They look so tiny and cuddley.

Hi, I'm back for a visit.  For me it's everything as usual.  I eat too much but my exercise compensates for it, so I am staying the same.  My husband, son and I are going to ride in an organized bike ride on Oct 11.  We will do the 40 mile flat beginner ride.  Of course my newly slim and fit son wants to do 80 miles, but he has never gone over 10 miles in his life and I've convinced him to do 40.  Every night he tries to get me out there, training for the ride.  He is wearing me out!  I am really time-poor lately.  I need to get more sleep and I wouldn't eat so much.

Donna, congrats on the looser clothes!  Dess and Penny, I know you can get back on track.  Marie, it sounds like you are back on track and gaining speed!

Alice

This last few days have not been good. To much eating out to many BBQ- and we have another one coming up today. Everyone trying to get the last of the picnics over with as it won't be long till the evening will start cooling down.

Have a great ride and tell your son - I think that would be so much fun. I know I'd never be able to make that trip, but maybe I could on my scooter. lol

Everyone have a great fun filled Labor Day week-end.

Donna

Congratulations, Dess, on your growing family! My best to you all!

I am glad it's Labor Day. Now no more excuses! Just one more BBQ today.............

My trainer is trying to get me to take a course to be certified as a nutrition counselor or a wellness couch, I mean coach!!!!!!!! Wow, was that a slip or what??? HAHA! Seriously, she is. We'll see about that.

FYI... Labor Day is the second biggest run on gym memberships. The first is New Year's.

I won't eat trash!

well here we are into september again.......i'm starting to get worried about my eating habits...got away with alot while working now i have to take a good look at what and why i'm eating again....sure don't want to gain anything back and still haven't reached my goal ...... looks like i'll be plugging the treadmill in again..the dr told me walking isn't good enough to strenghten bones that you need more of a jolt...asked about running on it he said that was better...you jus don't know one says this another says that....will try it and see what happens.....going for a bone density test soon as i get a call...found out that one of the motels has a indoor swimming pool and with a not from the dr you can buy a pass for off season swimming...got the note now to set up the rest...

25 work days left lets see 50lbs of potatoes to fry a day hmm 1250 lbs of fries to cook around 51 burgers a day  1285 more burgers to flip.....no wonder i don't like burgers and fries anymore.......

Another mini trip but this time I packed a cooler. Chicken, water and fruit. Hope I move the scales. I've been doing the Red and my pants are getting to fit much better. Don't know if I've lost but I can tell the weight is shifting or inches are leaving. I also have been doing the Walk the pounds away. I think that is a great way to walk and do it fast, not stoping to visit with neighbor, not watching out for dogs, just standing in front of the TV and getting a great workout.

A bone specialist told my friend the best jolt for the bones is in the water-- bouncing up and down. Has something to do with water and pressure that helps the bones get stronger. He has his patients to do the water theropy.

Hey you would make a fine coach-- couch I doubt that. so are you going to do it? My daughter is taking courses in nutrition. she has gone back to college after about 30 yrs. She is a nurse and going for another field in admistration or something of the sort.

Here it is late again. Why do I wait till bed time to get on this machine?

September already!! The nights are drawing in, the temperature has dropped (well we never did get above 70 degrees anyway) and autumn approaches (it will probably rush in here). My very very worst time of the year. Habitually I will gain 5 - 7 lbs between now and next Spring and thats just how my body re-acts - probably to do with the fact that my lifestyle becomes more sedentary as the bad weather arrives. I am hoping (I really should use "am DETERMINED" here) that I will have the will power to stay active. I know I will keep going to Curves and endeavour to "up the anti" work out wise. It's having the determination to don the wet weather gear and get out there walking in the inevitable rain, that is going to be my problem.
Still, I have a new target date now, my great/grand niece is having her hen (batchelor) party in Ibiza in June and like a fool I have agreed to join the family party, ages range from teens to seventies, so I now have a new goal to aim for. I hope I can hit my target to lose at least 28lbs before then. Don't know about being a "hen" more like an old fowl (fool ??)Laughing but I'm gonna have a ball - well maybe more of a short dance - so look out Ibiza.

That’s great a new goal and the determination to get it done. So GETURDONE Gal. I got the walk the pounds away DVD to do in our rainy season and it has rained now a straight week now. But I can walk and have a great work out without leaving the house. I look for the other gals to be coming back when it gets colder. Anyway I hope so. I think we need the support. I know I’ll be here a lot more than I am in the summer. Too much fun things to do but that can sure get you into trouble. So tell me about this place you are going for the hen party.

Guess I’ll turn in a little early tonight so you have a great evening. See you later.

Yawn! Long end weekend. Just stopped in to say 'good night'! Glad to see all is well. Seems like I have one healthy day and the next not so much.

I am going through a bad luck streak. Right now my motto is 'if it can go wrong, it will go wrong'. Hope this cycle ends soon!

I'll write more tomorrow!

Hello All!

I lost a few more pounds!

I am still working on the 'Nasty 9' from the summer, but now it's the 'Stinking 6'..... I know I shouldn't worry about the numbers on the scale, it should be my lifestyle as a whole. But talk about gratitude when you see it on the scale!!!

From Aug 21 to Sep 6 I have had the worst bad luck. You name it, it happened. But I seem to be getting over that spell. Things are all falling into place.

Hubby is going away with the guys for a few days to play golf, drink beers, and swap stories. This is a perfect opportunity for me to work on myself with no distractions.

I have jury duty tomorrow, 9/11.

God bless all of us and keep us safe from the acts of terror that shook this country's heart and soul........

My, how we have dwindled. I guess the colder weather and dark evenings haven't yet hit the States.
Marie I hope your jury duty went ok, it's something I have never had to experience as yet and really don't want to have to. I echo your prayers for safety from terrorism.
Donna, you ask about Ibiza - it is a small island off the coast of Spain and a very popular holiday destination for most of the European countries. It offers sunshine (important for us Irish) and good times (even more important for us Irish) so it will basically be a "Girls Night Out" that lasts for three days. With the different age groups that will be going from my elder sister (the future bride's Grandma at 74) and next sister at 72 to friends of the bride in their early 20's it should be an fun time. There will be a total of 15-20 "Girls" (I use that term with my tongue very firmly in my cheek)in all. So Ibiza look out!!!
Back on the track of lifestyle changes - my resolve has returned and I have had a good week. Not a lot of weigh loss but a definate determination and change of mindset. I started Salsa classes last night and had a total shock, I had thought that I was quite fit but I guess this involves a whole new set of muscles and body parts that haven't been benefiting from my workouts, but it was totally fun and I look forward to learning more.

Hope to see some more posting soon. Best wishes to all, De

Does anyone else get a pop up when they try to post here? Every-time a “take survey” pops up and stays a very long time.

Dess- We are still having nice warm evenings but now it is starting to get dark around 8.15-8.30 instead of 9.00-9.15. We are busy doing the get ready for winter fun things. Cookouts, farm city days, fairs, craft shows and just lot of fun things. Sure am glad I don’t live near Texas nasty hurricane heading straight for them. The girl’s night out sounds like a lot of fun. We had a trip to the Ozarks planned every year just a bunch of us gals, but we didn’t have it the last two years and don’t think we will go again this year.

My daughter, and grand -daughter signed up to fly to Italy in March. It was a special through the college where they both attend. Well now they have raised the price $850.00. that is a heck of a raise. I think we will have to say “ no thanks” I can’t imagine the increase in one week.

Marie- I was picked three times in just a few months to serve on the jury duty but never did have to serve. The last time –we were setting in the room and they were going to start eliminating when they came in and said we were all dismissed the prisoner had escaped. You should have seen everyone run to the cars as this is a small town and most people don’t remove the keys from the car we just leave them unlocked and unprotected.

Ok everyone gone to the weight- gone to the inches and gone to the bad luck. And come on good luck and good luck to health eating and great workouts and what ever we need to keep us motivated.

Things are not looking good -weather conditions are very bad in Tx. Looks like they are in for some killer waves, and of course the tornados that are hitting elsewhere. Prayers goes out to all in the path of the hurrican and also the tornado, floods and what ever mother nature unleashes next.

I see we are still pretty scarce on the ground girls, where are you all. I hope you haven't all given up - I need your help and support here!
I'm doing all the right things (with only the occassional slip-up) but the scales refuse to move and although I have lost 10 lbs in total ( at one point in the early summer that was 14 lbs) I can't seem to move any more. I'm at a total loss as to what to do next. Do I just hang in there and hope!
I haven't lost my resolve to change and my eating habits are pretty good now but my body seems to have decided that there isn't going to be any more loss! I certainly can't eat much less - I'm averaging 1300 -1400 cals daily and burning 2200 -2300 sometimes more. My body is in good shape and I can see the muscle defination but I'm still way too heavy. Is it just a matter of patience?
I do know that I will never be very slim, my bone structure is too heavy for that but I had hoped to drop a couple of dress sizes. I guess I will just have to persevere and work harder.

Wow, where is everyone?? We need posters!!

Don't worry, Dess, I here to support you!

It is a matter of patience. It takes so long for the scale to move when we're over 50. If you're doing everything right it will evenutally move.

I was waiting to be challenged for a muder 1, home invasion, rape, and armed robbery trial. I was praying I wouldn't be accepted and then they dismissed us because they got enough people for the jury. That was just one guy standing trial for those 4 crimes. OMG!!!!!

Donna, I haven't gotten the pop-ups on this site for a survey. But it seems just about every other site I'm on does that.

Be healthy!

Hi gals

Been without a computer a few days. Well in fact more than a few days. Took it in for a quick bath and check over, guess everyone had the same idea. I should have done it before school started because so many college students  had the same idea.

Dess I have read when you hit the dreaded plaueau that you need to shake things up, change your habits like if you exercise in the AM change to afternoon. Eat more protein and less carbs, or more grain and less fruit. Just if possible take a power nap in the afternoon, just change any and everything you can think of. Write everything down you eat, drink, your exercise, the minutes of walking everything you do.Up your calorie intake to 1500 for awhile.

Hope it works- me I've been slack on the careful eating so I have started journal again.

Glad you got off the jury - I know we need to do our part but OMG that would be such a hard thing to do. One tiny mistake you could turn a guilty person free or send an innocent person to jail. I'd rather be on something like-- ah letting your dog run at large as long as nothing could happen to the dog.

I sent an Email to Lora, if I ever get here more than a couple of times a week mysself and I know I will, I think I'll go send pm to the gals and see where they are.

Things really slow on the site-eveyone trying to get all the fun things out doors done before it's time to hug the fireplace.

OK gals let's shake it up and get this weight off for good.

yesterday was the last day of our business, it has slowed down to the point that it wasn't feasible to stay open...it was a good summer and we are looking forward to next year ...just the clean up to do then time to get everything ready for winter around home......by monday i will have my diet and exercise all laid out once again..been catching up on my reading of the last months posts..some ups and some downs but all in all sounds like everyone deserves roses...plauteaus are hard to deal with but much better than a gain...wondering what everyone does in the winter and who all gets the snow and bitter cold...the temp so far has been 5 in the morning so we're doing ok for this time of the year...i will get awhile to enjoy all the flowers i put in in the spring ...i fortunately have never been called for jury duty..i would probably be too gullible..
