Let's Geturdone- over 50 +
I have had a few health problems but I am in great shape and healthy now and want to get this weight.
Could use any and all help. Would anyone care to join me in my new adventure?
Hi gals
My granddaughter had her baby and it was C-section. I will be staying with her till Nick gets off work. I'll try to get back sometime tomorrow but it's late and I'm really pooped.
Eat right, exercise, motivate and drink that water. I haven't had any fish yet this week been eating at the hospital.See you all later.
Donna
Hooray, I got in my 64 oz of water today! I think my calories are okay too because I did a stir fry for dinner with a vast amount of broccoli in it.
Alice
I will take my water with me today as I didn't get enough in at the hospital. I will not drink in the fountains. I did get a good walk in and I'll walk today. I haven't worked on the Wii or the Red but will get that in today as well as my bands. The gym is now open at the college so I'll go there for my weights and machines. I want to start going to the motel to the pool for a swim a couple times a week.,but will put that off till I am not taking care of Serisa and Kaydra.
Kaydra looked so much better yesterday and the bruises and swelling is going down now. She looked like a little alian with the swelling and bruises and she was a C-section baby, never seen that happen before where she had been stuck for so long plus the cord was around her neck and head. I pray she is fine.
I go to the Doctor tomorrow to find out about my colonoscope. I haven't had pain but the first two days when I had the CAT scan.
Marvin is fixing brekfast and just said "chows on". I'll see you gal later. Wonder where the rest went again?
Donna
I got in my water yesterday and my eating was good too. I didn't get on the treadmill, but I did alot of running around and scoured the house. Well, not all of it - I will do the rest on Wed. Made me sweat so I guess that is good...lol.
Alice - Good girl.
Donna - Hope your granddaughter and her baby are doing fine.
Margie
Well I went back to catch up on the reading I missed the last few days. So happy about the challenge and hope this catches on with the other gals.
Alice I also take the fish oil and I know my heart Doctor said that was almost as good as fish the only difference is when we eat fish we get very few calories that is if it is grilled or baked. I of course like mine rolled in cornmeal, flour and different spices and fried. Not so calorie friendly that way.
Carol with my water I have 16 Oz bottles and I place 6 a day in the frig. That is 96 OZ and I don’t have any trouble consuming that much. Granted I did when I first started out. But I like lemon water the only thing bad is when I add lemon I want Splenda in it. They say your body does not know the difference in splenda and real sugar. I believe that as Splenda kicks in my craving for sweets. Strange before I became a diabetic I never wanted sweets. I maybe would eat a piece of pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas, maybe one or two candies a year. But now at times I really crave sweets. I have always been a saltaholic.
As far as the snacking or grazing goes I eat about every 3 hours to keep my sugar in line. If I go to long it drops. I have never had a bad drop or bad spike and I want to keep it that way. The protein helps it keep level and carbs bring it up. Some carbs bring it up more than regular ice cream. Like fresh rolls, pancakes anything in the white bread line. My friend spikes with peas. Each of us is different and what works for one many not work for another.
Carol I also do a lot of research and like knowing what and why things happen in your body and mind. Change the mind and the body will follow. A lot of this is just a big mind game.
Margie the baby and granddaughter are doing fine now. What a difference a day makes.I didn’t see where you made your appointment. Did I miss that part? How is the swine flu in everyone area? We have had two confirmed death around our area. Not directly in Iola but we have an Iola lady that passed age 64 and they have not determined if it was that or not. She had been to the Doctor with the flu systems and 4 days later died in her sleep. So the rumor goes.
Our houseguest will be leaving the first of the month so then I will be able to do my Wii early in the morning. He gets off work at 4.00 am and sleeps in the room where my Wii is so I don’t get it done early. By the time he awakes, dresses and up for the day I’m usually gone and then never get around to it.
Off to the hospital with water in hand.See you later.
Donna
Well my test are back and still don’t know much but what I know I don’t like. I have hundreds of pockets in the bowel lining and the CAT scan and colonoscopy shows a very bad infection. They said I was very luck as my colon was on the verge of bursting when I was hurting so bad. The pictures showed dark red and pits and a lot of infection. There is still infection and the hard area that they don’t know why or what it is, but they said it showed no cancer cells. If I have any pain at all I’m to go directly to the hospital and they said there were signs of the tissues trying to die. What does that all mean? It means every 6 months I’ll have a CAT scan and possible colonoscopy from now on. They really want to keep on top of this. But you know what I think? This to shall pass.
Donna, that sounds scary. I don't like it when the doctors seems to have no idea what causes something. But at least you are all right for the moment. Fruits and veggies for you! And maybe yogurt?? Did the doctors tell you any special foods to eat or stay away from?
Alice
Donna, thank goodness there are no cancer cells! But for the rest ... I'm so sorry. How awful! But your spirit is exactly right, which is going to go a long way to making this better and keeping you sane throughout. Hang in there!
If you have pockets, things with seeds are not your friend. Ditto nuts. But I assume your docs have gone over diet with you, and I'd by all means follow their advice, not mine!
I wonder if all the water you will be drinking will help?
I am to see another Doctor tomorrow and I’m sure they will put me on a probiotic and yes I’m eating yogurt now. He said to up the fiber and drink lots of water. I’ll let you know what they say tomorrow. See you all later guess I’d better do something other than set on my rear in here. And yes nothing with seeds not even tomato seeds.
Donna, you are right, this shall pass and you will be fine because you are so conscientious and you will stay on top of it. Still haven't made that appointment - am waiting for the referral from the doc. And no cancer cells - that is the really good thing. Prayers and love to you. Glad your family is fine.
I have been doing well with the challenge. I did alot of walking the last two days and have been eating and drinking right.
Bob Greene has a challenge doing just what we are doing right now and if you register with him and finish the challenge you can win a trip to Hawaii. Who knows - maybe I will be getting skinny to go do the hula!!

Sunday check in
Well, so-so. Got at least 64 oz of water in every day except Thursday, which was a strange day around here. Did my Wii daily like clockwork until - yep, you guessed it - Thursday. Or actually, I did exercise on Thurs, and after I finished Wii fit, I played a game of bowling and then 3 games of tennis. The last tennis game I reached for a ball (which I then hit out of the lines) and twisted my back. No exercise for me since then. I think I can do the yoga today - I'm going to give it a try, anyway.
Haven't lost any weight, but haven't gained any either, and I'm not as worried about losing as I am about getting the stuff scheduled.
Did fine with the regular meals. I think that's getting more and more ingrained.
Next?
Got in all the water and did alot of extra stuff so I got in my 10,000 steps even if I didn't do the treadmill. Back is finally better so now I will start the Couch-to-5K. wish me luck.
Maybe it was all the water but I gained 2 pounds.
I did everything else right so who knows?
Carol - take care of that back. Good girl on all the rest....HONK HONK
Carol I hope your back soon is feeling strong again. My knee has finally stopped giving me fits. I will start off slow tomorrow on my exercise, as it has been a while sense I have been able to do a good workout. The college gym is now open so I will be hitting it a couple times a week now. I’ll also get to my Wii and try to make it a daily thing. I want to use the Red also but I’ll wait a week or so on that one.
Margie- I know sometimes the scales go up for no reason, that’s why I prefer the tape measure to the scales. I think even an inch off of where you weighed the last time will change your weight. I have marked a spot on my floor but every time I mop the mark is gone. I know the same with the tape if you don’t get it in the same spot it will be different, but I measure right across my bellybutton and so far I think that is the best. I know that is not the correct measuring spot but it works for me.
I went to another health care provider and he explained everything so much better and it doesn’t seem as serious as I first thought. Yes to the CAT scan in 3 months just to get another reading but they think things will be fine.I am getting my water in and by tomorrow I hope to say I’m getting my exercise in also.
Well, I got through the first day of my Couch-to-5K program and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It goes in intervals - 5 minutes warm up then alternate 60 seconds of jogging then 90 seconds of walking - repeat for 20 minutes then cool down for 5 minutes. Not too bad. If anyone is interested go to http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.s html for the whole schedule.
Donna - glad that the doctor made it sound better. Sometimes it just takes another explanation to understand it better.
Everyone is doing pretty well so far! Sorry about that back, Carol. Back problems seem to be going around like the flu! Core exercises, everyone. Do some planks and back bridges.
My water report is like Carol's. I did well most of the days but I wasn't perfect. Off to a good start this week. My calories were good all week. My Friday weight was 149 and I won't weigh again until this coming Friday.
Alice
Hi gals. Looks like it is slow here again. I have been running and getting nowhere. Seems like I start something and before it's done I'm off doing something else.
Still need to get a lot done for the church sale it isn't untill Oct but we have so many items alread to be marked and not enough help in that department. You know how it is everyone is willing to do till it comes time to do it. lol
I'm at a stand still no weight loss but no gain either. But still need to get back to the butt kicking exercise. Hope to get to the gyn next week.
Water intake is good- exercise not good and that is my main thing I love to do. Eating is so-so but need to do more journal.
Run, walk, bend, squat-- whatever works for you.Drink that water and write that journal. Yep that's what I need to do.
Have a fun filled, safe weekend.
Yes, I'm staying off the highways.
I weighed 148 this morning. Definitely in the right direction. I'll go hiking tomorrow and have another relaxing day at home on Monday. I've been drinking lots of water, because it is so hot.
Good night and good health!
Alice
Sunday check-in: Doing great on the water challenge, drinking at least 70 oz of water per day, sometimes getting in much more. My kidneys and bladder are beginning to accommodate it.
Less well on the exercising. My PT is urging me NOT to push through pain, the way I usually do, so I can't do more than about 15 minutes per session. I'm getting disscouraged and VERY SICK OF PAIN!
Weight isn't budging. I'm fluctuating 1-2 pounds arond my starting point.
These are the times when it gets very hard, and it seems so much easier to just give up! But I won't. I just have to hunker down and geturdone.
I was doing great on everything then I got this hair in my foot. I thought it was a sticker but it was a hair. I tried to get it out and it was really deep so I went to a clinic and she dug around and never got it out - just left a big hole.....ouch. She told me to go to the ER but who wants to sit there all day? I finally sterilized a needle and went digging myself. I finally got it out and I left a bigger hole, but now its healing nicely. Its funny how something that small can hurt that much. Needless to say, I didn't do my third session of running on Friday. I will start again on Monday.
The water is getting easier. Since I already drank about three 34 oz. 'Thirstbuster' of tea every day, all I had to do is switch to water. The scale went back down 2 pounds so that is the best part.
Carol, go easy on the back. It takes a while for it to heal, but it will heal - as long as you go easy.
Have a great weekend.
