Let's Geturdone- over 50 +
I have had a few health problems but I am in great shape and healthy now and want to get this weight.
Could use any and all help. Would anyone care to join me in my new adventure?
Hi Dess! Welcome back and don't you dare leave! Even if you are not doing well, posting here will get you over the bad spell faster and get you back on track before you regain so much.
Margie, sorry about your setback and hopefully nothing is wrong. But even so, it is annoying to get headaches when you are exercising. See how much you have improved in just a couple of weeks! Be sure to keep it up with the walking until you get cleared for more running, and I know you will continue to lose!!!
My weight was the same this morning. I've been doing fine with water, but last week I ate the same amount as I burned, so I did not expect to see a loss. I'm doing better this week so far.
Donna, keep walking!! If you don't use it you'll lose it, and I don't mean fat!
Alice
Margie we had a great time. I guess next year we want to meet in Colorado. Even with all our eating with bad choices I never gained but then again we walked miles.Jane said she had signed up with you on selling Avon. That’s great everyone you get under you sure will help the $$.
Alice I went to exercise today and all went fine. We walked miles over the week-end but not sure how many my battery was dead and I didn’t know it till we got to the fair.
I didn’t get my water in over the weekend so am trying to get in 100 oz today.
Here comes the lightning again so guess I’d better get off here.See you later I’m going to Ok. Tomorrow and won’t be back till Thursday.
Hi all, I am not doing so well. I reset my scale and now the stupid thing says that I weigh 169 to 170 or maybe I should just say 169 & 1/2. Anyway. How can one gain 5 pounds in one week. I think its just the scale, but now I have to start over and go from what it says now and that sucks because I was feeling so good about getting under 165. Such is life - I will just keep plugging away.
I am going to get the tests done on Monday so hopefully I will get cleared to run again. I can't believe that I WANT to run. I never thought I would ever say that.
Everyone keep up the good work and I will check in on Monday and let you all know how the tests went.
Donna - how great that you didn't gain when you were on your fun trip. Walking is great. That is how I lost 30 pounds before - lots of walking. Keep it up!! I love it that Jane signed up with me. Now we talk alot and she is doing great with the Avon.
Alice - You are an inspiration. I will get down under the 150 mark soon and then I hope to be at goal weight by the end of January. That is only about 2 pounds a week so it is do-able. But I better get my but in gear - I haven't been doing well on the eating part. I got upset that I had to quit the running so I over-ate.
Have a great weekend.
Margie
Hi gals
Well here I am again. I went with my sister in law to get her teeth pulled she goes to OK because of the difference in the price. We left Tue and came home Thursday. But Wed evening I came down with the creeping crud. Still not up to par but am feeling better. Hope I'm well enough to attend church tomorrow but sure don't want to spread my germs.
Margie you may just have water gain. Drink that water and flush the weight away.
Well I thought maybe Dess and some of the other gals would stick around again but poof and they are gone.
Going to turn in now. Everyone have a great weekend.
Donna
Good news! I have been cleared to run again. I went to the cardiologist and had a stress test and doctor said I did very well so he said to go ahead and run, just take it slow. I had to laugh at that because I run at a snails pace. It's more of a slow jog than a run....any slower is walking...lol. Anyway, I am cleared so I started again yesterday. I never thought I would love running, much less miss it when I couldn't do it. Wonders never cease.
The headaches are exertion headaches and should go away after I get 'in the groove' of running and stay well hydrated. I only got the headaches when I started on the third week which had me run four intervals of three minutes straight so I went back to week two, which is six intervals of 90 second runs to two minutes of walking. It went fine with no headache. HOORAY!!
Hope you are all doing well.
HUGS & HONKS, Margie
Margie, that is wonderful news!! Just take it slow and build up gradually.
I have been exercising but I don't have much motivation to cut calories. Maybe it is the cooler weather. Well, that's no excuse because the cooler weather just started yesterday.
I need to switch over to soup so I can have a big bowl without big calories.
Hooray for pumpkins, soup, and oatmeal!!
Alice
Margie I'm glad you are back to running and feeling better. Yes our body does know when we treat it right and give it the right food , fresh air and exercise.
Alice how do you fix your pumpkin? I love it and am looking for different ways to fix. What kind of soup do you like?
The flu has hit here hard. There was 250 kids out of class yesterday so they are closing down till Monday. One confirmed care of the H1N1. not good-- hate to hear it is here around our kids. I hope they get the vacine out soon.
I am logging in to say that I finally made the scale move in the right direction. Only one pound, but I will take it!!
I did get a some new exercise stuff. Its pilates and I got if from QVC. Its like one that I had before but with more stuff - check it out:

I really like it and will do this on the days I am not running.
HUGS & HONKS, Margie
Congrats, Margie! I will have to check out your DVD. I want some kind of pilates exercises to do at home.
Donna, the latest CC newsletter had some really good pumpkin recipes and other good stuff. Check here.
I didn't drink enough water today -- maybe I'll get back on track tomorrow. But I saw a new low for my body fat. It was 27.8%. That is the first time it has been in the 27's, so I'm making progress. My weight is 147.4
Alice
Margie I have started back doing the Red and my bands. It's just so easy once you get them out, dust them off and get started. I'm glad the scales are moving now you just keep it up.
Alice I went to the store and bought 12 cans of pumpkin, sounds like there is a shortage on it.
I don't even want to know what my body fat, it may scare me into a fit. haha I'm back to the exercising now so I'm sure mine will change.
I've not done so great on the water today, I was gone and forgot to grab my water but I'm drink it tonight-- that may not be so great doing it so late at night. haha
Just wanted to say hi, guess everyone is busy see you later.
Donna
Before you tear into that bag of potato chips, drink a glass of water first. People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger, so you can end up eating extra calories when an ice-cold glass of water is really all you needed. If plain water doesn't cut it, try drinking flavored sparkling water or brewing a cup of fruit-infused herbal tea.
Mindless eating occurs most frequently after dinner, when you finally sit down and relax. Snacking in front of the TV is one of the easiest ways to throw your diet off course. Either close down the kitchen after a certain hour, or allow yourself a low-calorie snack, like a 100-calorie pack of cookies or a half-cup scoop of low-fat ice cream
Instead of cutting out your favorite foods altogether, be a slim shopper. Buy one fresh bakery cookie instead of a box, or a small portion of candy from the bulk bins instead of a whole bag. You can still enjoy your favorite foods — the key is moderation.
If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you'll lose weight. But when you're hungry all the time, eating fewer calories can be a challenge. "Studies show people who eat 4-5 meals or snacks per day are better able to control their appetite and weight," says obesity researcher Rebecca Reeves, DrPH, RD. She recommends dividing your daily calories into smaller meals or snacks and enjoying most of them earlier in the day — dinner should be the last time you eat.
Protein is the ultimate fill-me-up food — it's more satisfying than carbs or fats and keeps you feeling full for longer. It also helps preserve muscle mass and encourages fat burning. So be sure to incorporate healthy proteins like lean meat, yogurt, cheese, nuts, or beans into your meals and snacks.
Add spices or chiles to your food for a flavor boost that can help you feel satisfied. "Food that is loaded with flavor will stimulate your taste buds and be more satisfying, so you won't eat as much," says American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Malena Perdomo, RD. When you need something sweet, suck on a red-hot fireball candy. It's sweet, spicy, and low in calories.
Having ready-to-eat snacks and meals-in-minutes on hand sets you up for success. You'll be less likely to hit the drive-through or call in a pizza order if you can throw together a healthy meal in five or 10 minutes. Here are some essentials to keep on hand: frozen vegetables, whole-grain pasta, reduced-fat cheese, canned tomatoes, canned beans, pre-cooked grilled chicken breast, whole grain tortillas or pitas, and bags of salad greens.
Ordering a child-size entree is a great way to cut calories and keep your portions reasonable. This has become such a popular trend that most servers won't bat an eye when you order off the kids' menu. Another trick is to use smaller plates. This helps the portions look like more, and if your mind is satisfied, your stomach likely will be, too.
Simply by eating less pasta or bread and more veggies, you could lose a dress or pants size in a year. "You can save from 100-200 calories if you reduce the portion of starch on your plate and increase the amount of vegetables," says Cynthia Sass, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association.
Anna - Happy belated birthday. Way to go getting rid of your 40 pounds ago clothes, that alone should have made your birthday special.
Margie- where are you gal? Dess hope to see you poping in here very soon.
Louie it's getting to cold to play gulf. So you need to get off the greens and get into keeping us in line.
Lora - come out -come out where ever you are. Hope the critters didn't get you.
Guess we need to "come a looking" for all of you. Yes! I'm talking about you-- Penny, Marie, Karen, Marta and Alice.
Hi Donna! Sometimes we just seem to have different schedules for getting on here. I don't have much to report - doing okay with eating, water and exercise. I hope to see another drop on Friday. This week I'm working on more sleep.
We should have our first rain of the season this week. I'm ready for it - everything is extremely dusty around here. I'm also getting a gardening bug with this cooler weather. But first I need to put some new drip irrigation hose, a project I started two years ago and never finished. I can't imagine I'll really have time to do it, but maybe if I take some vacation days from work I could get it done.
Hope all is well with everyone. I wish some of you would post more often!
Alice
Alice
We have had more than our share of rain this year. We got another 5 inches on Friday. The rivers are bank full, I haven't seen dust sense June.
My scales hasn't moved yet but I'm getting back to more exercise and again doing the meal journal. Seems like I do it for awhile then I slack off.
Wonder where Carol is? She hasn't been here for awhile. I know she is on facebook but I'm not sure how to find her as I don't have her email address.

I was cleaning out some of my stuff and ran across this-- true- so true
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
I woke up this morning excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I'm going to have.
* Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.
* Today I can feel sad because I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.
* Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I'm alive.
* Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that I was born.
* Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate because thorns have roses.
* Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.
* Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.
* Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with new tidbits of knowledge.
* Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have housework to do or I can feel honored that I have a safe place to live.
* Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor, who gets to do the shaping.
* What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have.
OK I'm talking to myself here. Where are you? Come out- come out where ever you are.
"Perseverance allows you to get back
on track when you hit a detour."
Perseverance is the ability to keep going in the face of continuous challenges. It is the ability to disregard distractions and to stay focused.
You may have to take detours to get to your end goal. But, as long as you persevere and realize that the detour is simply another alternative path in the direction of your goal, you will continue to move forward.
Those who see a detour as a reason to quit, lack perseverance. You will always face challenges as you work towards your goals. Your ability to persevere will determine your ultimate success!
Gosh it lonesome and scary here-- no one to say hi to.![]()
Hi everyone!!! I'm back.
Donna, sorry I was MIA for a while. No reason...just not doing much. I do need to get back on track so I will be here more often again. Thanks for all that info. Its stuff we all should know but not what we do. Reading it again helps....gets me talking to myself again.
I am doing pretty good on the eating. I do fine when I am working, but come the weekend and......well, you know. I am staying the same as far as the scale goes so that is good. I am back to 167 so those five pounds I gained are gone again....whew - I need to stop this rollercoaster thing with the weight but it just seems like the fat likes it where its at and doesn't want to move. I need to be more like a landlord and evict the deadbeat fat from the premises.
My headaches seem to be better - not totally gone, but better. I think its more sinus trouble than the exercise, but it makes it hard to walk/run when your head is throbbing.
Not much new going on - the snowbirds are coming back slowly and so work is picking up. The busier I am the less I eat so that is a good thing.
HUGS & HONKS, Margie
Hi all, I'm back. Sorry I left. Lots of reasons; my computer had problems, I left town for a bit, and ... Well I've not been doing too well, and it's hard to post when you're hunkered down.
Yeah, I know. That's when I need most to post. What was that promise I made to myself -- let others help me?
Water was going fine until a couple of days ago, and suddenly I'm not doing so well. When it's hot, I drink lots of ice water, anyway. But now it's cold, and room-temp water doesn't do it for me. I'm working on the problem.
According to my scale, I've lost 2 pounds. Nothing compared to what I need to lose to be healthy, but a start. No, don't crow too much for me -- I can vary as much as 5 pounds one day to the next. But I'm holding on to it for encouragement.
And yes, Donna ... Facebook is such a time sink!
