I'm new here and would like a older group to chat with. Maybe we can go down the trail to Skinnyville together.

I have had a few health problems but I am in great shape and healthy now and want to get this weight.

Could use any and all help. Would anyone care to join me in my new adventure?

Hi Carol!  Glad you are back.  I always suspect when someone leaves that they are not losing weight, but I always hope it is not worse problems taking them away.  Try hot water with a lemon slice, almost like tea.

I haven't succumbed to Facebook although many people want me to get on there.  We only burn one calorie per minute (or less) while sitting at the computer and we need to remember that!  I burn more per minute sleeping than I do at the computer or while driving.

I am back to 150 because I have been eating in maintenance mode when I should be eating in a deficit mode.  Halloween candy is not helping!!!  I'm not buying any for home, though, so I will not have residual temptation.  This week, including Sunday, I have had a significant deficit so I should be seeing some lower numbers soon.

Margie, glad those 5 pounds are gone.  Is your blood pressure normal?  I know high blood pressure can give you headaches, and your blood pressure naturally goes up when you are exercising.  But as long as it is normal when you are resting, I think it is okay.

Donna, are you still exercising?  Are you losing yet?

Alice

I was gone for about a week came back and now am baby setting. The regular baby setter’s two kids (teens) have the flu and are at the day care center. Serisa will not leave Kaydra there until their fever has broken and they can go back to school. Now get this—because she did not close the center all the mothers that choice not to take their children around there has to pay full price like they when they are attending. I think this is wrong and Serisa called Kaydra health care provider and he said do not take her around the teens. He also said she should report the center to the state because they are operating knowing they have a contagious disease. But you know if she does the center will find a reason not to take Kaydra back. And the other centers have no opening for 6 months. Ahhh the joys of finding things in a small town.

Margie I’m glad your headaches are getting better now. Speaking of exercise I bought the new Wii fitness plus and have only used it once in a week. Seems like I get up have an hour to myself and then it’s nighttime and time to go to bed. My time goes fast.

Carol I wish I could say I lost two ponds but I have gained 5 since I went on vacation for the week. Not good I’m now up 35 pounds. Darn this battle is really hard this time.

Alice I know I need to spend more time moving than setting but sometimes you need to hit a happy medium I use to be on the computer about 6 hrs a-day—that was way to much time setting but now I’m doing other things and haven’t lost an ounce. Of course when I was gone we ate 3 meals a day out for almost a week. And no—I didn’t make the best choices when I ordered so again it’s my fault for not doing as I know I should.

Everyone let's really try our best now.

Donna

Sigh, it is SO easy to gain and SO hard to lose.  And that's the way people get so heavy - one pound at a time.  Yes, we all have to do our best and make the right choices.

That is terrible about the day care center, Donna.  If Serisa reports them, I'm sure she will be kept anonymous.  The state is not allowed to say who complained.  My husband works in code enforcement.  People always try to find out who complained about them, but the inspectors are trained to never tell.  The state can just pull a surprise inspection.  I hope the teens are gone from there soon.

Alice

Alice I know that is the way it should be -- but-- this is a small town and there are many times that things slip out from the system. Mt granddaughter works hand in hand with the SRS and you wouldn't believe the things that slip out. My daughter is a nurse and same thing there - seems like Iola thrives on the "Did you hear"? Serisa is looking for a new daycare now. I'm almost to the point of staying home till she can find one.

I need to get my mind change and I think the body will follow but I gained it one meal at a time and that is the only way I can get this done-- one meal at a time.

Have you tried the green tea tablets? I bought some and I'll see if it helps, or maybe it's just the whole glass of water you drink with it that works, either way I hope it helps. My weight was 148 now it's 186-- why did I let this happen? In 2 yrs I've done that much damage to my health.

This sounds interesting guess I'll give it a try. I'll let you know what I think of it.

 Tofu pudding

In blender combine 1 c. tofu silken, one cup sliced ripe banana, 1 tsp agave  nectar.,2 Tbsp fresh orange juice,1 tsp of wheat germ. Puree till smooth. Serve cold.

Hi everyone.  Yes, I am at that   'How easy it is to gain and how hard to lose stage'  too.  It seems like we have all been there for a while now.

My headaches are gone because I am not running.  I now have a big flare-up of my femoral nerve syndrome.  This has bothered me on and off since my second was born and that is 14 years ago now.  This time my leg is going numb and it is getting really painful and not going away.  I went to the doctor and she prescribed nerve pain pills and they are okay but they put me to sleep.  She said it would take a few days for them to really work so I am waiting.  I can't workout or anything else until this clears up.  It seems like every time I try to do some exercise something happens to stop me.  What is up with that?  Am I just supposed to accept my fatness as god given and be happy?  Sometimes I think that it would be easier to do just that.

Okay - whine is over - talk to you all tomorrow.

Hugs, Margie

Margie - I know it's frustrating when your body keeps putting roadblocks in your way.  Hang in there!

I can't exercise right now, either.  We're working on it in PT, but meanwhile ...  However, I am still losing weight, one very slow pound at a time.  I'm being more careful than usual about what, how much and when I eat.  I try to keep it nutritious, light and regular (every 4-5 hours).  Since I can't do the exercise, the intake is even more important than normal.

Of course, eventually just the eating will not be enought -- I'll have to address the calorie burn.  But I'm doing what I can.  Maybe something similar would work for you?

Carol, I am impressed that you are losing even though you can't exercise right now.  If we would all eat like that, we would all be losing!  "Food" for thought Smile  I get upset when my body slows me down and my eating usually gets worse.  Something I need to work on in my head.

Margie, sorry about your nerve problems.  I hope the pills kick in soon.  Just do what you can do.  If you can do any stretches or upper body exercises that don't cause pain, then do them!  Anything is better than nothing.

Donna, how was the tofu pudding?

My knee is still bothering me but I think it is slowly getting better.  I went to a new doctor on Tuesday, and he said the ligaments in my right knee are loose.  That allows the knee to "shift" when I'm not careful, and that causes the cartilage to rub a little and get irritated, which is the cause of the swelling.  His suggestion was to do what I'm doing - ice, ibuprofen as needed, and continue to try to build my quad muscles. He suggested leg presses instead of leg extensions, which he said are hard on the kneecap. He also wrote me a prescription for a special kind of knee brace, but I have to find out if my ins will cover it - it's expensive.

I love the new doctor!!  He's a D.O. rather than M.D.  He spent a lot of time talking to me and has exactly the philosophy I was looking for. What a wonderful office he has!  They did bloodwork right there and also a knee xray.  He read the xray with me only 10 minutes after it was taken.  Everything was digital.  Two days later the office called and gave me my blood work results - everything normal, cholesterol a tad high at 208 but I should be able to bring it down with healthier eating and lose a few pounds.  My old doctor's office NEVER called with results, even if something was wrong.

Hiking on Saturday as usual.  I have been very good with my eating this week and I'm back down to 148.2.  Maybe I can break 147 next week.

Alice

Margie No! You do not have to accept being fat. You know it’s the eating the right proportions and leaving the junk along that keeps you from getting fat, the exercise is the plan that takes the icing off the cake, but it’s the eating correctly that takes away the cake. If there is no cake then there isn’t much for the icing to stick to. 80 %-20% and you can lose without that 20%.

Carol I know I gained when I couldn’t exercise but I never refigured my calories and I know I need more when I exercise as hard as I was before my knee injury. Now it’s just trying to get my mind back to where I crave the exercise and not the junk. Like today I watched everything I ate then went to my son-in-laws and I was setting there visiting with him the next thing I noticed is I had consumed several handfuls of M & M. Strnge I use to never reach for sweets now my hand just automatically goes for them.

Alice I have had better and I’ve had worse than the Tofu pudding but next time I’ll add a bit more orange and they didn’t have the silk only the firm tofu. I don’t know if that would make a difference or not.

I also had the knee brace but I just used the cheap Wal-Mart one. When I used the brace on my carpel tunnel I used the expensive one and Medicare and Blue Cross took care of it. Go- girl go—147 coming up soon—real soon. Now if I can get that 148 back I’d be doing a happy dance but last few weeks it’s gone the other way. But li8ke I said my hand keeps reaching. GRRRRR!

I am once again back on track. Eating is good and I'm writing it down. I think that is the key and I know I need to do it daily but I start then quit.

A friend of mine and self are heading to the woods for an afternoon or hiking and picture taking. So I should get plenty of great exercise in today.

Hi everyone.  Thanks for the words of encouragement and Donna's boot.  hehehe   I know that I will get this weight off.  I will never be that skinny (not really) gal I was in me early 20's, but I will get to a healthy weight and stay there.

Carol - hang in there with me - we will get this done!!  Hope you heal soon.

Alice - your new doctor sounds great.  I prefer D.O.'s to MD's any day.  Hope your knee gets better.  Great job on the hiking and the loss!!

I now have the flu.  UGH  I had my flu shots too so they say its not supposed to be as bad if you do get it anyway - let me tell you....its bad.  I can't complain too much because I haven't had the flu for like ages.  I have a customer to thank.  One of our 'ladies' came in two weeks in a row with a really bad cold/flu.  I hate it when they do that.  She gets a manicure so she would cough or sneeze into her hand and then give it back to finish the manicure.  The gal who was doing her kept spraying anti-bacterial on her when she did that, but we all got it anyway.  Sometimes people are just plain stupid and selfish.  We told her not to come back to the shop the next time she was sick and she just laughs.  If it was my customer, I would have told her to wear a mask or just stay home, but Bea is afraid to lose a customer so she lets them do whatever they want.

Well, enough of that, I will check back in soon with my progress.  I know I have lost some, but I haven't weighed myself yet.

Donna, Have fun on your hike.  We need to get the exercise where-ever we can.

HUGS, Margie

Sorry to hear you have the flu, Margie Frown  Hopefully it will be gone soon and you can start getting in more exercise.  It is hard to stay away from sick people when they won't stay away from you.

Donna, how was the hike?  I hope you got to enjoy some nice fall weather before the real cold sets in.

My hike last week was great, but come Monday my knee was not so great.  Very swollen and stiff, and more painful than it has been.  I have decided it is not getting enough chance to recover during the week because of all I do, and it is having symptoms of over-use.  So I didn't go to my spin class, and I only did exercises this week which did not make me bend my knees, except for some easy walking.  I am even skipping the hike today Frown  I'll see how it feels next week.  I am not taking ibuprofen any more, just icing it as needed.  I bring my ice pack to work now and ice my knee at my desk.  It is definitely getting better with the rest, but it just kills me to be less active!  I'm going to do a ton of yardwork today and see how many calories I can burn.

I keep losing and gaining the same 3 pounds, and I know that's better than gaining, but I am determined to see a new low soon.

Alice

Hey, everyone.  Sorry I missed yesterday, but I'm checking in now.

Water consumption getting better, although I still need to push a bit more.  Eating has been going fine ... I'm back to counting calories.  I could eat better foods, but I'm sticking to my calorie plan.

Yeah, Margie, I'll hang in there with you.  PT is progressing.  Today we went to Costco and I walked the entire store ... something I've never done before.  Then when we got back, Husband and I took our 0.8 mile walk.  I had to stop and rest 3 times, but I did it.  THEN I went and did PT!  I'm tuckered is what I am.

Question -- anyone doing Pilates?  Or, more specifically, any one doing Pilates on a ProForm pilates reformer?  I need to know how good/bad it is -- particularly how smoothly it glides.  I may post this to a wider group, as well.

Flu - yeuch!  Get better soon!

Carol

Margie- I hope by now you are over the flu. I’m baby setting as my g. g.daugter has been running a fever and of course they won’t take her to the daycare center. I wouldn’t want anyone else taking care of her but family when she is sick.

Alice we all know when we have an injury rest is the best. When I injured my knee and it started feeling better I walked at the cancer relay for life and that was too much to soon and set me back by several weeks. I also still use my knee wrap. The weather is great and I still can’t believe 70 degree in Nov.

Carol- No I have never done the pilates with or without the reformer. I have a friend that use to do the pilates but I haven’t heard her say anything about it lately.

Seems to be talk about a program “Food Lovers” that sounds a lot like the Provida program. But with this you can eat a lot of thing that is a NO-NO on Provida.I certainly can’t knock Provida as I lost so good on it but I got so tired of the same stuff day after day. I wonder if it’s a sister program because you can order the protein powder and vitamins from Provida.

Guess I’d better get my breakfast and get ready for Kaydra. I hope to get more exercise in today. See this is my problem I should be exercising this AM and posting this evening.

Hi everyone,  I am better now.  Whew - it turned into bronchitis and I was down for the count for two weeks!!  Today it is back to work after being off for over a week.  My paycheck will suck.

Carol - I haven't used the machine, but if you haven't bought it yet there is another way of doing almost the same thing with bands.  I got mine on QVC  and I love the system.  Here is a link to what I got:  http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app .detail/params.item.F08000.desc.AeroPilates-S pacemate-Total-Body-Exerciser-w-DVD-Mat-Bag    Also - way to go on the walking.

Donna - how great that you are taking care of your GGdaughter.  Its good to have family that will help.  I will check out that "food lovers" thing too.

Alice - hope your knee is better, take good care of it.  I still have that nasty nerve in my hip acting up.  I am supposed to go to a neurologist next to see what they can do.

HUGS & HONKS, Margie

Margie I'm so glad you are better now. OK where are you gals? I just got back from Branson MO again. Had another great time. I think that is the last of MO for awhile.

I am getting ready to go to lunch with friends-- "think good choices." Water, Exercise, good choices will get me to Skinnyville.

Hi girls!  I am still about the same weight but giving it a good try to see a new low soon.  I hiked on Sunday -- a short one for me ("only" 9.5 miles).  My knee wasn't perfect but it was better than on the last hike a few weeks ago.  My next step will be to go to an orthopedic sports doctor who was recommended to me.

Margie, sorry your hip nerve is still acting up.  I know it makes it a lot harder to exercise with the pain.  Sure hope they can find an answer.  But glad you are over the bronchitis!

Donna, I hope the restaurants around you have some good choices for you.  A lot of times, especially in the midwest, they don't cook in a healthy way, so everything is loaded with fat and calories.  That's why I avoid eating out.

Carol, hang in there and keep up the walking.  It is great to hear that you are moving!

Alice

Well, Thanksgiving is upon us and now we have to think about eating or not eating.  I look at it this way.  I have 364 other days of the year NOT to pig out and although I may not pig out, I am not going to stress out over what I am putting in my mouth.

This is the first time since I took over the duties from Mom, that I am not cooking.  We are going out to dinner.  My aunt is now in a nursing home and it is really far from the house so instead of bringing here to the house and then cooking and then taking her back - it is easier just to take her out to a restaurant.  Mom doesn't drive any more and brother is working that day and my oldest doesn't even have his license yet (I know - its weird), so I am the driver, cook and all that.  Mom thought it would be easier on me so we are going out.  I am still getting a small turkey to cook so we can have some left overs.  I mean, what is Thanksgiving without the turkey sandwiches the next day?

Anyway, I hope you all have a great day with your families and stay safe wherever you go.

HUGS & HONKS, Margie

Alice a 9-mile hike sound like something I couldn’t ever do. I do so admire you and all your energy, determination, and your ability to do so much. I love hiking but 9 miles is out of my reach.

I’m heading back to OK tomorrow and I’ll be home sometime Monday. My sister in law has another dentist appointment Monday and we don’t want to have to drive early morning and have to really watch for the deer. They are thick this year several every evening are being hit on the highways. To think until about 15 yrs ago it was unheard of in our area.

Margie this is the first time ever our family will not be together at Thanksgiving. My daughter and her girls and grandkids are going to Nebraska. My sister works till 12.30 and I will not leave her by herself. This is the first time our oldest grand daughter has had it at her home and I really don’t blame her for wanting everyone there. Guess my sister, Marvin and self will go out and eat. Or maybe stay home and eat a TV dinner. Haha

Everyone have a great holiday if we don’t met here again before turkey time.

God bless you all

Donna

Hi all,

Margie - 9 miles!  Oh, how I wish I could do that!  Way to go!

In fact, I'm getting concerned about just how inflexible I am.  I can't clasp my hands behind my back without pain, for instance.  I'm too young to be this old!

I'm  hanging in there.  Decided not to buy another machine.  I already have the Weider Total Body Works 5000.  It's not very smooth, which is a problem for what I'm doing in PT, hence the search for pilates machine, which I'm using at PT.  However, we've figured out how to jury-rig the body works into something I can use for now.  And husband -- who did all the jury-rigging in the first place, is looking into making me a performer.  How's that for devotion?

Husband and I will be home alone for Thanksgiving, as well, so it will be a quiet one.  We'll either roast a chicken, or we'll look into the possiblity of ordering a Thanksgiving dinner for 4 made by the grocery store deli.  Bring it home, heat it up -- voila! Thanksgiving dinner plus leftovers, the easy way.  I know I could do this at the grocery store near my mother's home in the Chicago area, so it's not impossible.  I just have to see if the local folks do it.

Progress?  None, really.  Holding in place; that I am managing.  Weighed in this morning at 224.  That's holding the 4-lb loss from 228 I had last week, with little to no exercise (the machine was under reconstruction ...) So I hope to shed a pound or so this next week.

Ok all.  Drink that water.  Walk that mile.  Tote that barge.  Or something like that. Laughing
